  1. i fish electric only lakes and alot of us have started moving to lithiums. mainly to save weight. most of us run 48 or 60 volt motors with however many 6volt batteries we need to get the voltage, the guys who have gone to lithiums save aboy 400 pounds in weight and they take up less space. and yes they run longer than lead. i went with a 24volt lithium battery for my ultrex this year. saved over 100 pounds only need 1 battery and ive fished 3 trips on it this year and havent needed to charge it yet, that wont happen with lead.the guy in the video can say what he wants and im not saying hes wrong im just tekking you what ive seen with my experience . might not be a big deal with gas boats but for our rigs lithium is clearly better. but they aint cheap.
  2. almost forgot bass university and fish the moment. both get into details on location presentation etc. i rarely listen to music anymore.lol
  3. bass talk live. love frankscalish on there.serious angler, mercer, smallmouth crush. also a local one to me tackleshop live. done by the guys who own susquehanna fishing tackle.info is pertinent to bass fishing nationwide though.
  4. prespawn here. ill get on navionics , look for potential spawning areas.then look for potential wintering areas. then i will look for channels, structural elements etc leading into those places. points, channel swings, flats with deeper slots in them etc. when i get to the water ill note water temperature, clarity , and drive around a little and look for baitfish grass etc. if i think their will be fish shallow ill start in likely spawning areas or just outside and fish moving baits. cranks bladed jig , spinnerbait etc. may even slow down and fish some soft plastics. no luck, ill probably go to the depth i noted most baitfish at and start at that depth on some structural element. But then you know what mike tyson said , everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.
  5. i read in a copy of in-fisherman years ago that most game fish spend most of their time in a " neutral" mood. they arent neccesarilly feeding but if an wasy meal comes along or if you appeal th their predatory instinct they will eat. i tend to agree with that. A bass is laying by a boulder, he's not chasing pray but all of the sudden your jig falls over the boulder and lands 6 inches from his face. he eases forward a little and sucks it in.or he's laying under a clump of grass, your jig crashes through the grass right in his face, hes startled and out of reaction he grabs it. i feel like most of our bites come under circumstances like this.
  6. i have that exact rod 72 ml expride. i use it for drop shot ned etc. i also have a 610 but not an expride. either will work but i prefer the 72. casts a little further , moves more line on hook sets etc. just personal preferance.
  7. finessegenics gave great advice. i do flip texas rigs a little more than him but still like jigs the best. But as he said your not fishing the grass your fishing whats under it. Like if you have a little hump or slight depression on a big flat. if there are rocks or gravel under the grass those are your targets. On lakes you fish alot take some time now before the grass is real thick and graph through it. look for hard spots etc.Mark them now and fish them later.Seth Fieder has an excellent you tube video on flipping grass. saerch for it. I think its called conquering grass or something.
  8. good luck. no standardization. i have the same trouble and have been looking for a cranking rod for big baits for weeks. problem is no local shops have anything suitable and i dont know what im getting on line. oh and i dont want an 8 foot one.
  9. in general use the football heads in rock. they will work in wood or grass but get hung up much more.
  10. ok so its the higher density that gives more sensitivity. im just wondering if im paying$22 dollars a spool for line that is marginally better than line i could get for $8 a spool. guess the only way id know for sure is to sppol up identical outfits with each and fish them.
  11. so let me ask this. if flouro stretches which we know it does, how does that affect the supposed sensitivity? i was under the impression that the lower stretch was what was supposed to make it more sensitive. maybe i misunderstood?
  12. not on big water but i have a couple of farm ponds that have alot of small bass. i take the fly rod and some poppers there a couple times a month. dont even get me started on big 9and 10 inch bluegill on poppers. that is an absolute blast!
  13. yes thats a plan for me this year too. instead of running aroumd trying all kinds of spots, sit down, think about the places i have tried. what type of other cover or structure could be productive this time of year? maybe go try to find some new stuff on the finder. try some areas i havent tried before.
  14. thanks . i did some more research and saw where gary dobyns said he designed the 735 cb graphite for bigger cranks dd22 6xd etc. i thunk thats where im headed. i like the sensitivity of graphite because im cranking deep grass sometimes and need to know when i contact it etc.
  15. thanks. yes thats the opinion i got from most of the people on the dobyns group on facebook. im not sure i could get an 8 foot rod in my locker. ill have to measure and see.
  16. looking for a rod for fairly deep cranks. in the 6xd dd22 dt 16 range. considering the 735cb glass or the 765cb. dont have a dealer close by. anybody have experience with either of these 2 models?
  17. you just buy what you want, what you like , and what you feel comfortable spending.im fortunate to have a good job. sometimes my job requires me to do things i really dont like. get out of bed at 2 am, deal with people who are lets just say not pillars of the community etc. so i reward myself with tackle that i like.others may be in a different position where they cant afford or just dont want to pay the higher prices.thats fine too. doesnt mean you cant catch plenty of fish , maybe more for that matter. there is good quality to be found at several price points.
  18. i like upper middle end rods. shimano expride, megabass, stcroix. do i catch more with them than 100 dollar rods? i have no idea. they just feel good in my hands. if i pick up a cheaper rod and it feels right for a certain technique and i just like the feel of it i buy it.

your on the right track. they are like a spinnerbait or chatterbait. you want to give them some erratic action , keep them moving, run them into wood grass etc. you basically fish them the same as you would the other baits but sometimes the more subtle natural appearance gets more bites.
  20. tom is right . take that stuff and sell it. then you can buy more newer stuff. ive come to the conclusion that i have more than i really need. i just like fishing tackle. its a relatively harmless addiction so i just live with it.
  21. when the water is cold you want it to be clear. in the warmer months lookng for water with some color to it can help keep fish shallower and more aggresive. cold dirty water is tough.
  22. i have a tracker grizzly. it does fine but if i were to buy a new one xpress would be at the top of the list.
  23. i would love to make a living in the fishing industry but not as a touring pro. way too much travel , pressure etc. i have some ideas now on how it could be done but im 12 years from retirement and cant throw everything away right now.imglas there are guys that can do it and entertain me but thats not the lifestyle i could live. youtube social media , etc play a big role now. sponsors expect you to have a presence tournament finishes , social media exposure whatever. whenever you turn your passion into a job the lines get blurred and it can become work.
  24. this is what i was thinking. i catch a ton of smallmouth every year on neds. now some do get off its just part of the game. i dont catch many or any 5 pounds or more but im fishing a large river that can have heavy current so your still putting alot of pressure on a 3.5 pound fish plus the current. with bigger smallmouth i like to leave them out there a little bit to fight. you know when they get near the boat they are gonna go nuts so i wanna have them a little tired before i get them that close. id rather have the inherent give and stretch of the system with some distance while the fish is hot.
