GamecOcks5, mix one ounce of Seafoam per one gallon of fuel. I keep a 5 gal container of gas treated all the time to fill the tanks of each piece of equipment. You can add it directly to your boat gas tank also in that ratio.

jettech, you can get a 798 for a less than $1,100. The suggested retail for it is $999.00. I got mine for about $250 less than that. Google is your friend.

Seaform is used in all my small engines all the time. ATV, chain saw, power washer, lawn mower, weedeater, 2-stroke and 4 stroke outboards. It won't help with the water pump though, you should get those serviced before you ruin the motors.

The 570 is the replacement for the 565. It's a good unit in that price range.

The line numbers on the reel have nothing to do with any rating system. It is there to let you know how much line of the common diameter mono lines in each listed pound test that the spool will hold. Nothing more and nothing less.

The bass liked them last year. I haven't tried them this year.

Since 20# Power Pro is 6# mono equivelent diameter, should perform well with the small reel and you won't have any line memory issues. The smallest reel size I use is the 2000 and it works great with superline.

I do. For flipping and pitching, I use left hand reels. For everything else, I use right hand.

Look at the shallow water images posted on the Yahoo Groups Side Imaging site. One of them is at less than 2' looking at grass.

I agree with Randy and Bass-Brat. With those two magazines you may have several issues during the year where the word "bass" is not even mentioned unless in a small advertizement.

All the ones that are made in 2010 will have the Switchfire and Down Imaging. If you get a last year's model, when you register it on the Humminbird website, you will get the get the software in your account to download and add those features to your unit. When I got the 798 in December, it already had Switchfire. You will also get a PC software tool for waypoint, track, and route management.

I use pistol grips in the 5'6" and 6' lengths. I have a Chatterbait rigged on one and a spinnerbait rigged on another now.

I use the uni-knot for all connections except the hook on a dropshot rig (a Palomar for that)

I always set my units to white line so bottom contours and objects on or close to the bottom will show better.

bear, all the 2010 mfg units have the Down Imaging and Switch Fire feature included. The Side Finder was a Bottomline product and that company is now owned by HB. That is why the Fishing Buddy is now a Humminbird unit instead of Bottomline. I used to have a Bottomline Side Finder that came with two transducers and a switch to choose which direction to use (down or horizonal). The Side Finder is not even close to what Side Imaging and Structure Scan is. The Side Finder used/uses the same transducer as regular down looking sonar which has a cone shaped pulse.

With the HDS-5x, you will have GPS, dual beam, mapping capability, and can add the LSS-1 later for Structure Scan. With the 788c, you will have a higher screen resolution, dual beam, and can add GPS later with no mapping capability. Of those two, I would choose the HDS-5X

One thing might help you is to understand how a bass eats a crawfish. They inhale it, crush it, blow it out, and inhale it again to swallow it tail first. Wait a few seconds after a hit to allow that procedure to complete.

You probably will not get satisfactory on-plane performance with it transom mounted. A correctly installed transducer inside the hull is the best option. The little notches in the transom bracket will not let you level it unless you start it in the correct orientation. You can start in the #1 position and start tightening the bolt to see of any of the positions available will let it be level (parallel with the bottom of the hull ) IF that doesn't work, you have to take it all apart and try another number. My boat needed the #2 slot.
