Marty, some fluorocarbon packages state "low stretch" on the label just like some nylon monos do. You have to question what the statement "low stretch" is in comparison to. In some cases it must be a rubber band.

To properly fight a big fish on light line, the drag cannot the trusted to operate smoothly, so the anti-reverse is turned off and the handle is turned backwards to absorb the fish's pull. It's call backreeling. It's a technique you should practice just in case.

Good advice, fishfordollars, the added stress will result in failure. Check the cable route to make sure it is supported were it should be.

For better boat balance, you should put the batteries at the transom end. Put one on the port side and the other on the starboard side and have space for the gas tank ( if used ) in the middle. For ease of operaton of that motor, put a Big Foot switch on the negative wire for the on/off operation and that will let you fish more with less struggling with the motor operation.

Possible bent shaft

The Vibrashock lure is not as good as the Chatterbait or knock-offs that have the blade attached directly to the jig hook eye. The split ring connection absorbs some of the vibration. While the components of the latest production of the Chatterbait are not as good quality as the original lures before the company was sold, the vibration factor more than makes up the difference over the split ring assembled models. Yes, fish those type baits on braided line to get the most vibration.

The different mfg units don't speak the same "language". Waypoints on a Lowrance unit cannot be transferred directly to a Humminbird unit and vice versa. They have to be translated via appropiate software to the other unit's "language".

The G-Mag Oversize hook is a good fit for that bait for a weightless version. The Reaction Strike series of weighted swimbait hooks in 6/0 or 7/0 works well for deeper or faster presentations.

I don't have a favorite technique, I let the fish tell me what they want. According to my catches, the technique that a bass is most vunerable to is a wacky rigged finesse or Trick worm. The amount caught that way is about 87%.

Get the Everstart size 27 deep cycle battery at Walmart and a 6A-10A automatic charger there also. I agree about getting a more powerful motor. Walmart also carries the 50# thrust transom mount motors. If you will be fishing waters bigger than small farm ponds, you will appreciate the more powerful motor.

The OMC manual that I have shows a positive and negative wire from each battery going to a 4 conductor receptacle and then a jumper is used in a 4 conductor plug to get the 12V and 24V to the three wires going to the motor. There is no jumper at the batteries. My last fiberglass bass boat was wired that way. If you would like a 3 wire diagram, I have one from a motor guide manual that shows the jumper at the batteries and motor wiring for a 12/24V 3 conductor plug set-up. purdum43@aol.com

Most of the bodies of water I fish have a max depth of 30'40'. For my use, the wider beam of a dual beam is most beneficial in shallower water as the amount of bottom coverage is quite small with a 20 degree cone. The 20 degree cone is best for pinpointing fish or structure after you find it. I never met a Garmin that I liked, I prefer Humminbird and Lowrance/Eagle. For detail, the 565 would be much preferred over lesser resolution screens.

All 4 of those motors I owned including the one I still have is 12/24V. Two were the regular small prop 41# thrust and the other two were the large prop 56# models called HO. Danonboat, 36V models from several mfg. are quite common in recent years, I have one of those too. There are some models that are 24/36V.

I fished some open tournaments put on by that group many years ago. In one event at Lake Anna, I was boat # 351 and there were some behind me at take-off.

I'm familiar with original OMC trolling motors with the bent shaft. Is that the same model? Another company made them for OMC just before OMC went bankrupt (maybe MinnKota). If it is the bent shaft model, it is one of the best motors ever made. I still have one on my jon boat and had one on my bass boat that I sold and gave the purchaser a spare one. If it is a bent shaft model 42# thrust, it is either 24V or 12/24V with the small prop.

The main difference in use is the G-Lock is shorter in length as compared to the EWG and fits short baits better. A good tube hook.

I purchase a bait the first time based on the qualities I am looking for. If it performs as expected then I will purchase more and stay with it until it fails my expectations. If one does fail to perform, I don't give that brand a second chance to fail.
