Bait selection on rod and reel
Interesting answer Catt: I am a newer member here and I have been away from fishing for quite a while and I have been amazed by just how specialized some folks are regarding reel/type/gear ratio/line/leader... I have a pretty wide selection of gear now and I am looking forward to spending as much time as possible on the water this year trying out all the ideas the more senior members of this forum have provide. Just wanted to express a little gratitude to those of more experience who are willing to share. This is pretty comical read sometimes too! ?

Question About Pistol Choice
Everyone has their own interpretation of what feels good and works for them. What's the purpose TARGET or SELF DEFENSE? What is the skill level of the shooter? Stay away from anyone with a closed mind because this is a decision that WILL hurt you if you take it lightly. I would suggest you find an enthusiast with an open mind and discuss/shoot/decide what works. Good luck, and be careful!

Spinning reel - front/center/rear line load?
Yes sir Darren, Sarcasm is always required. My Grandchildren always ask, "Is that sarcasm Papa?". Can't help myself!

Spinning reel - front/center/rear line load?
Well thanks, while that makes sense I would've thought that would be factory verified prior to shipment. Thank you sir!

Spinning reel - front/center/rear line load?
Just received my new Shimano Stradic C3000HG and in the packaging I found a package of washers that left me confused. Upon examination it said to consult the instructions regarding the "winding shape" of the spool. Being a mature American male I actually forced myself to open the instructions and discovered the possibility of FRONT or REAR loading the spool. The factory setting being level winding from front to rear. I have never seen this, or payed attention anyway! But this is the best quality spinning reel I have purchased. What would be the reason for wanting the spool loaded unevenly? Casting distance is the only thing I can think of but how would it be affected?

A Question if this happened
I was introduced to, and favor Quantum bait casters. It seemed so few others do. Lately I have grown to favor Lews also. I have a pension for Shimano for spinning reels. Since I am just getting back into fishing seriously I am leaning on the experience of those in this forum to get me to try other brands also. Although an old dog, I will learn new tricks.

Snaps - How many folks use them?
I'm getting some Texas Tackle! Can't fight with those things! Thank you for the link.

Snaps - How many folks use them?
OK, not real savvy here... Is a Palomar knot adequate? What is the easiest way for an old, half blind fat man with bad knees to get split rings off? Thanks Jeff

New Spinning Setup
703 has been ordered for the Stradik for 3000 reel. I believe I will string that with Suffix 20# braid and pit a 12 yr Seguar leader on it.

OK, a lesson to be learned here! Could someone please pose a pic or link of what they use. I don't imagine it's what I have in my Granddaughters catfish tackle box. Thank you by the way folks. I appreciate y'all sharing the wealth!

Snaps - How many folks use them?
I am just getting serious about fishing again after a long hiatus and I just read about some folks using snaps on jerkbaits and crankbaits. Wow, I would have never thunk it! I quit using snaps as terminal tackle when I was a kid. Please let me know your feelings because with all the specialized gear we buy I figured for sure it would adversely effect the bait's action and be a definite no-no! What a time saver though!

New Spinning Setup
I just ordered a Stradic 3000 yesterday and am planning to put it on a 7' Dobyns 702, 703, 704 or 705. As you caN tell, I am still undecided. Most folks I have heard from said it was a bit tip-heavy with a 1000 reel. I also will be using it for multipurpose. Hence the indecisiveness on the rod. Am hoping this will be the predominate weapon of my wife. She is not a big strong girl and I will try to make things as easy as possible for her. She won't always be in the boat either?

Heavy-ish Spinning Rig for Smallies 7' or so - Help
.Thank you Darren, please let me know where to find the size (1000-2500) for spinning reels if possible. My rods are just too wimpy. In th e thread regarding music one fella has a video catching a SM and the rod he's using has more backbone and still a flexible tip. I don't know how to properly explain myself. Forgive my ignorance. The options were not as plentiful 20 years ago! Ben Jefferson
