Split Ring Pliers are Too Big for Smaller Split Rings
I picked these up from Amazon awhile back and they work good. You may be able to find them in craft stores too.

Way to cold to launch a kayak, so I'm going to the holodeck. "Computer, run Scoggins Trophy Bass Lake program and remove safety protocols."

Are big* bass smarter or just rare?
I've always believed that genetics played a major part in determining the percentage of "big" bass in a body of water. Lake management is key to a productive trophy lake also. The U.S. Forest Service owns and manages one of my favorite lakes here in Oklahoma and in 1995 they drained this lake and removed the northern strain bass and restocked it with Florida strain fingerlings. They also added gizzard shad and bluegill for forage and within two years there were 3 lb bass being caught. Within ten years 5 lb + was becoming the norm and today a person has a better than average chance of landing a double digit. The Forest Service is constantly monitoring the population via electrofishing and DNA testing and as a result, many locals are breaking their PBs on an annual basis. I've found that the lake has spoiled me as it has gotten to the point where 7-8 lb catches no longer excite me as they once did. I have to agree with @A-Jay, "smarts" isn't as important as many believe; bass are predators. Genetics + population + management + growing season yields a good time on the water.

Kayak Bass Fishing!
I'm glad to see this thread active again. It's amazing when you think how fast kayaks and kayak accessories have evolved in just 10-15 years. When I purchased my first yak there was no YakAttack (there was only Scotty) yet, and very few YouTube channels or sites covering rigging. That's when DIY was really DIY.

Length difference in kayaks
I don't own a 10' (yet) but I can tell the difference in tracking between the 15', 13', and 12' yaks that I own. I've always heard that the 10' yaks shine on rivers and streams when it comes to steering.

IT CAN NOT BE STRESSED ENOUGH
Please folks, find a good, comfortable PFD and wear it! Take every precaution possible when you're on the water and insist others to do the same. My prayers go out to this soldier's family. https://www.stripes.com/news/us/fort-hood-sergeant-dies-in-boating-accident-on-texas-lake-1.565885?fbclid=IwAR3NP_FnW54TyDBydCQzZXNam29rPf-DPqUpgNMDjvZngpgosZBtrinE9nQ

Wider/fatter vs longer
I always start off bigger and if nothing takes it, I down size. I also consider shape when the crank bite should be on, but I'm not getting strikes. I've learned that when I step up to a wider/fatter profile, or vice versa, the change triggers bites. Greetings from Kansas
Welcome. If you ever see a guy holding a hawg bass in one hand and a rod in the other, all while doing a break dance on the front deck of his boat, ( @Bluebasser86 ) then you're on the right lake.

Post a photo a day!
The landscape and faces change, but the tradition is still same. On May 4th, 2013, I returned to my first home away from home, Fort Benning, Georgia, to watch this young man and others receive their Infantry Cord. I became friends with his father and he has, on a weekly basis, kept me up to date on his son's life as a soldier. I breathed a sigh of relief yesterday when he informed me that his son returned home after spending a year in Afghanistan. I just wanted to share with you my pride in knowing that there are young men and women whose love for country compels them to serve their nation in time of war. Sergeant Tyler Cox, United States Army.
