River smallies.
I am going on a boyscout trip down the Juniata river this weekend. It is VERY low and the temps are supposed to be upper 80's. There are some deep holes, lots of weeds, and one very good stretch of water that we will be going through. Lately the smallies have been kinda slow, all day long. What are some lures that I can try to bring them out of hiding.

Hunting
I love hunting also. I hunt turkey, rabbits, deer, and next year bear. I rarely keep the squirrels I kill, I give them to my buddy. In my opinion I am very good at hunting rabbits, I have killed close to 50 and only missed 7. I'm also good at shooting clays, my record is 49 out of 50. My first year hunting turkeys I killed a gobbler, 21 pound with an 8 1/2 inch beard and 3/4 inch spurs. I have killed some deer, nothing worth braggin about though. I have a .22 Mossberg, and a 20 guage Remington Wingmaster 870 Express, and a 30-30 Mossberg, 3 pellet guns, and my bow is a Bear Grizzly Supreme. Good luck to all this year!

Locust question.
Thanks guys. Raul, that first picture you posted was it. And SPEEDBEAD, you was also right about the fish loving them cicadas up here in PA. I used them on a 2/0 worm hook under a bobber, and a split shot to put it down. The smallies in the river went nuts over them.

Locust question.
I found a locust this mornin on my porch. It's the first one i've seen this year. It is greeen and white. I know there are the 17 year ( i think 17) locusts and the 4 year and I think there is another one yet. Which one is the one I found? I know it isn't the longer year ones because they were out a couple years ago.

My best day so far!
Had a fishing trip to a new lake yesterday. It is not a big bass lake but 10 of the 13 fish my dad and I pulled out were legal. We fished from 7:30 till 1:00, then 1:45 till 3:45. The morning was best. It started out with dad landing a 15 inch largemouth(they all were largemouth). An hour later I landed a 16 1/2 inch, 20 minutes later I landed a 16 inch. Then an hour later, dad landed a 17 inch. Then just before the weigh in for our little unofficial tournament, I landed a 3 pound 7 ounce largemouth. And I took first place, my dad took second. Then we went back out and I landed a dink, a 14 3/4 inch, a 15 1/2 inch and a 15 1/4 inch largemouth. It has been my best day as far as the number of nice largemouth I caught. All of the fish were released safely.

Reel help!
My dad's got an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5500 cl3. On the last outing, it had problems. After he casts, the spool release button wont come back up, and it wont let him reel, he has to pull the button up. Does anyone know what might be the problem? Thanks in advance.

Awesome 2 days!
The last two days were awesome for smallies. I have been fishing the Tuscaroara creek. Yesterday, I had 20 smallieas all together. The biggest being 17 1/2 inches and 2 1/2 pounds. The rest were all around 10 to 14. Today was even better as far as quality of fish. I went out from 2 till 4:30 then 5:30 till 9 pm. The first outing I landed 8 smallies. the two biggest was 15 inches and 14 1/2 inches. The second outing I had 7. 2 of them were rockbass, the biggest of the two was 12 inches. I also had a 16 inch smallie and a 13 inch largemouth. What is odd about this is that it is the first largemouth that I have ever caught out of the crick and also the first one I have ever seen be caught or heard off being caught in that crick.

Ever done this?
I went down after some smallies with topwater. It was at 10:00 tonight. The first cast, after the first couple turns of the handle, it becomes heavy, but the lure is still on top and making noise. I start reeling it in thinking I got some small twig or some grass, and feel another thump, then I cant reel. The end of my rod starts shreiking, i'm trying to turn on my light and the rod starts goin crazy. Got my light on and here it's a dang bat tangled in my line and the end of my rod. I imediatly thought, oh crap . I got him loose and safely returned to mother nature. I have had them hit my line, but never actually caught one.

Pinnacle Platinum reel/help.
It aint my reel anyway, it is "the captains'" reel. It is his first baitcaster. If it were my choice, it would still be at Wal-Mart.

Pinnacle Platinum reel/help.
Never mind all. We got it off and fixed. The spring was off and wedged under the gears.

Pinnacle Platinum reel/help.
Used it for 5 casts, then the spool wouldn't wind. We can't get the side plate off either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Scuba diving courses?
Does anyone know where to go to get a certified scuba license. I live in central PA, I don't know any places that offer the courses. I want to take the courses where they train you in a lake, not a pool.

Before I Die I Want To.....
1. Catch an 8+lb largemouth in PA. 2. Catch a 45"+ musky. 3. Win a bass tournament. 4. Win a bass tournament with basser89. 5. Get a really nice fiberglass bass boat. 6. Fish Lake Varner, Lake Fork, or Okeechobee. 7. Meet Miranda Lambert.

Man, it's HOT
It got up to 96 today up here in central PA, though it was only about 100+ up in the barn. Most of my fishing right now is either wading and staying in the shade, or when the sun's down. Good thing is the heat has made the topwater bite for smallies a little better.

Fishing in Thunderstorms?
My buddy and I went fishing the other day and got caught in a thunderstorm. We checked the weather and it said scattered showers :-/. We only fished for about 20 minutes before it started lighning and raining. We were catching fish until the thunder started. Does thunder scare the fish, because I know if you stomp on the boat the fish take off like crazy? I would also like to know what the thunder causes the fish to do, move deeper, shallower, etc. Oh, and we did make it through 5 hours of pouring down rain, lightening and thunder and got out safely. Thanks in advance.
