  1. Looking to buy a reel for skipping jigs. Going to be an Daiwa SV reel rod is a 6'10" H Champion XP Dock Skipping rod. Will have 17 lb invisx or tatsu. WIll mainly throw 3/8 oz skipping jigs on this rod. I have heard a lot of people still really like the 17 version. I have a few tatulas, zillions, and the new tatula elite reel. What do you think? I know I have heard people talk about this briefly on here, but I was unable to find a set thread.
  2. are the canisters the same as well? I noticed the two bass pro ones had different plastic pieces that they come with. Not sure what they do?
  3. a few years back I bought an automatic life vest from cabbalas for about 80$. A year or so ago, I accidentally activated it trying to put the canister back in. I don't have the jacket here with me, but I plan on rearming it for an upcoming tournament. I will attach a link to the vest picture (no longer made) and the rearming kit im looking at. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pinterest.ca%2Fpin%2F532480355937348265%2F&psig=AOvVaw2mStn01a-8Z3A_PSdEqku6&ust=1614955784027000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCNDQ06Hxlu8CFQAAAAAdAAAAABAD https://www.cabelas.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-k320kit24-automatic-manual-inflatable-life-vest-rearming-kit
  4. im looking at a 7'1" H G. Loomis E6X rod for swim jigs. My plan is to cast them at sticks and the bank, along laydowns and stuff. It will also work in heavy grass but u have other rods that may be better for that.
  5. looks like I need to book a guide trip and head to Texas
  6. I really like the ima skimmer in clear water. Ive also had good luck on the sexy dawg. Im gonna diversify this year and buy some other brands. sexy shad and chrome are my go to colors.
  7. I am a Daiwa guy, started off fishing the Tatulas, Arachnids, and Zillion TWS. I bought two Curado K reels last year. One is used for flipping and another kind of floats around. I also have a Curado 71 on my swing jig rod. For reasons I will not explain here, I will be purchasing Shimano reels from now on. As I build my knowledge of their reels, I want help identifying what purpose you would pick each reel for within the $175 - 400 range. Im not asking for a comparison, I can easily find that on the internet. Looking for what you'd use the k, chronarch, and 70 mil for and why you choose it over the other Shimano reels. Curado K - I understand it has tough gearing and is good for big baits and flipping Curado Dc - long casts with moving baits Curado 70 MGl - not sure Chronarch series - anything bottom contact from my understanding Aldebaran - light stuff
  8. looks to be a serious upgrade from the previous 70. Might find its way onto my new jig rod soon
  9. great content as always. im gonna work on finding fish this year rather than blind fishing.
  10. IM DEDICATED TO LEARNING HOW TO FISH CRANKS WELL THIS YEAR. I HAVE A SELECTION BUT AM ALWAYS AFRAID OF LOSING THEM
  11. no side imaging? does 360 eliminate need for side imaging in the motor?
  12. from my personal research today, the mbr is an all around rod. Like mentioned it can do anything, but there will be better specific rods. for example, you can throw a spook, chatterbait, square bill, spinnerbait, jig on it and do fine, but each has a specific rod suited better for it. The JWR is typically a faster rod for jigs and worms, surprising, eh?
  13. I appreciate the help. Ill probably save my money up and get the ultrex with built in side imaging, then add the 12" and 360 as I go. The university/college deal will help out with costs and so will my willingness to sacrifice and save all my money for the boat monkey. It goes to show that bass resource is a great resource when people like you take the time to go that in depth. It really makes a difference
  14. I am going to upgrade the front of my boat this season. Looking at ultrex 80, Helix 12, and 360. Im not sure exactly what I want to buy and what I need. If I could get some help that would be great.
  15. I have mega is and mega di up front now, had garmin in my old boat. I feel that having both si and di would be beneficial. what im not familiar with is the specific models that work with 360.
  16. excellent advice. I will agree that the trolling motor is first and foremost. I really like Garmin, but I feel like the 360 suits my fishing better. Im running an aluminum boat, so idont have an abundance of room. a 12" graph at the front and a 12" bird and garmin 93sv for mapping at the console. I do need to do more research into 360 and that stuff to make an educated buy. I think lithium is out oof the budget this season, but four batteries add a lot of weight.
  17. hummingbird helix 12, whatever the nicest version of that model is I meant to ask if I should upgrade the electronics up front all the way to 360 imaging before a graph at the console. I think the 80lb is plenty too and I will try and make the lithiums swing. Is the 24v enough?
  18. looking to make some upgrades to my aluminum triton vt19 this summer. I want to add an ultrex and a 12" graph up front, along with one at the console, and eventually 360 imaging. I am leaning towards ultrex first, then 12" at the bow, 360, then console graph. I fish a lot of electric lakes as well as big lakes. Going to be upping the tournament count this year as well. Current plan is to keep this boat for a while. It will become my shallow water rig once I buy a glass boat. I am considering the tracker lithium batteries and a 36v system for the trolling motor My questions: ultrex 80 w/ tracker lithium vs ultrex 80 w/ lead acid vs. ultrex 112 w/ lithium 12" graph at bow -> then console -> then 360 vs bow, 360, console? I also need to redo the carpet and gauges along with a bit of normal maintenance
  19. I have family in Hudson. I will get in touch next time I am in town
  20. I have come to realize what you are saying is entirely true since I first posted this. I am used to a stiff bass rod. different species take different rods, just like ocean and fly rods. think of the rods I have as surf rods for trout. long length helps me cast far out. The moderate action and ul power are awesome. rod has good sensitivity as well. Not a great creek rod but it can work.
  21. you fish in Marlborough a lot? My mom grew up there. Fish in the area a few times a year
  22. not to hijack at all, but I took a trip up to lake Bomoseen in Vermont in august. The lake is 10' vis and covered in milfoil the whole way up to exactly 14'. most of the milfoil comes up to 2 feet below the surface. There are little holes maybe a foot wide. first time I tried punching wad 3 straight days for like 6 hours at a time. don't think I caught a single fish that way. Its one of the best lakes in the east. any advice?
  23. Yeah that makes sense too, that path means I wouldn't have to get a different 360 transducer fr the ultrex. I could use the ultrex and keep running the helix 7 up front.
  24. Running an '07 Triton VT 19/90 Mercury Optimax. Boat has a Garmin 93SV and Helix 7 at the console and a Helix 7 MEGA SI at the bow. Trolling motor is an 80lb Fortrex. Next season, im looking to upgrade. I ideally want a 12" Helix with 360 and an Ultra up front and 2 Garmin 93SV at the console linked together, one for mapping and one for imaging. Im thinking the 360 and 12" will be more important than the new trolling motor or another console unit first, then add the trolling motor after, but im not sure and want some advice. thanks
