fishing is tough there right now. haven't been home in a few weeks but they were tight to cover. my info says they are spawning now. they sprayed the milfoil so no mats this year on marsh. post spawn topwater bite is usually solid. white spooks

Jon Boat Decking Questions
get the laminate, looks like thinner sheets of plywood glued together, that is the best for horizontal strength. Don't use sob, its harder to seal from water and not as strong. it isn't meant for structural support. As far as pressure treated, it is meant to stop insects, not moisture, and the chemical its treated with causes aluminum to corrode over time. Best bet is oil based enamel. it has oil which is a lipid and is hydrophobic (hates water) think oil and water in a jar. 3 coats and you should be good to go. I used 1/2" ply for my deck and it flexes a bit even reinforced. biggest hatch I have is 27" x 18". used 3/4" for my other boat and it turned out great, I decided not to seal it for whatever reason that may be. if you have any more questions im happy to help. I have a lot of research and experience decking 14' vs

caught female bass in textbook styles yesterday, deep water with shallow access when a cold front moved in and lots of wind. water temps dropped like 8 degrees. hammered the trout as well. in other news, a local guide is opening a tackle store 3 min from my house. I am talking with him in hopes of working there or beginning to guide in the area. exciting times!

Jon Boat Decking Questions
1448 and you wont feel the need to upgrade down the road. dont use pressure treated or osb thry arent meant for boats or weight seal laminate plywood with oil based enamel its like paint need two coats at least. use 3/4” plywood if you can afford the weight itll give you a solid platform use 1/8” by 1.5” angle, will need rivet gun, 3/16” drill bit 3/16” rivets a taprvmeaure sharpie and a way to cut the metal

congrats on a big fish, especially for Mass. That is an interesting concept you have shared. Sounds believable. nonstop guarding for an extended period of time would be draining. Heck, after tearing my ACL and MCL a few months ago, im tired just walking for a few minutes. p.s. I see you're in Lowell. I have family all around you. We'll have to fish sometime when im in town.

Ultimate Electric Only Lake Boat
My current boat (14 foot smoker craft v) works for me. It has a livewell, rod locker, room for 28x 3700 trays, day box, cooler, fish finder, two trolling motors, onboard charger, 25hp Johnson etc. Only thing it lacks: enough stability for my grandfather to fish comfortably. I am working and saving like crazy to buy us a new boat. I plan on selling the two I own right now. I figure I can get max 4500 for both of the boats. We fish small electric only lakes 90% of the time.Part of the reason is because we don't have a big boat, another is access/availability. I am fine with not being able to take on big lakes and rivers at this time in my life. I am looking at 1860 Mod V All-Weld boats, mainly Tracker and Alumacraft. Plan is to start barebones i.e. boat trailer trolling motor and batteries, and upgrade as the money comes in. I want to buy new. We are getting a new garage at the lake house so the boat will have a nice place to stay and we plan on keeping it for a long time so no worrying about depreciating value. Planning on getting a Karavan trailer, not sure what model yet. As for trolling motor, looking at the Fortrex. They can be had real cheap due to people upgrading to the ultrex. I have a Garmin 93SV for the boat already, not sure if I will sell it or not yet. here are some of my initial questions/concerns: 1. Alumacraft vs. Tracker? I am leaning towards Tracker because I like the price, layout and availability of them. The square layout sets itself up nicely for my deck design when I extend the casting deck down the road. 2. Dealer vs. DIY? I am all about DIY projects. Last build went a bit over my head. Learned a lot, but can definitely do better. I am not afraid to do it myself, only thing that scares me is messing up on a boat I will have for a while. I also don't want to void the warranty. Would be nice to save some money though. That being said, I want things done perfectly, and I am not 100% confident I can make it perfect. talking about trolling motor and electronics installation, wiring, etc. Basically anything the dealer/I could do to set it up as I like. 3. 80 vs 112? This is an electric only rig for now. I think the extra money up front for a 112 will help significantly. This is a big boat so it can afford the weight of three batteries. 4. Foam or Carpet? I want to install some sort of floor covering to protect rods and reels and make the bat semi nicer. I am looking at Hydroturf and Seadek, eating towards Hydroturf due to price, but if SeaDek is way better ill go with that. My thought process is to foam the subfloor where the deck will eventually go on top of, providing cushioning for my open rod locker. I like boat carpet, but I want to avoid gluing to the aluminum due to the mess 5. Eventual Upgrades? Gonna have this boat for a while. Possible upgrades I can see myself adding are power poles, 12" graph (or two), outboard (9.9 or 75), the deck (a primary concern), ultrex 112, etc. What order would you put these in after the deck and is there anything you'd add? 6. 1860 vs Alum Bass Boat? for the same amount of money, I could look into an early 2000's Bass Tracker 175 or similar. Boat wouldn't be new, but would be ready to roll and have an outboard giving access to bigger lakes. Something to consider. Overall, I am certain the 14' won't cut it. My grandfather fell a few years back in a Jon and I have been worried ever since. I think the best option is an aluminum boat. I can fish shallow, beat it up, but have stability and a new boat for years to come. This is a big decision and I am working towards saving every penny I can.

Eastern PA Fishing Reports
got out on the lake for the last two hours of the day. started off with moderate winds and then ended fairly calm. No fish deep, spent about 30 min fishing deep, decide to move shallow. Caught a 2.3 on a Neko rig shallow. Then threw a small swim jig and a KSIF on a ball head jig, no takers, switched to a naked freedom chatterbait and a KSIF, two fish right away. one dink one 3lber. Next I threw a buzz bait on the way back, missed a big blowup. switched back to the chatter and missed a pickerel twice in a row. was probably 3lbs also. looks like they were shallow. water temps 60-62.

When they are actually spawning...
fished two different lakes the last two days. fish were in the act of spawning, as in I saw several pairs of bass rubbing together in shallow beds. One cast and they wanted nothing to do with it. I decided not to fish for them as these are two lakes I care a lot about and they are pretty small lakes. That being said, when some of the fish start spawning, where can I find the rest of them? I tried a bunch of stuff but didn't catch any. I don't want to target bed fish and don't want to interrupt spawning.

didn't catch any bass but fished my lake water temps 60 yesterday, 60-65 this evening. saw many bass shallow. rock bass are spawning. Bass were in th process of mating so I didn't mess with em due to it being smallish lake that I care a whole lot about. caught one trout lost a whole lot more, was probably 16" or so, gave it to a family fishing from the dock along with some powerbait. going earliish tomorrow on a smallmouth lake.

seriously though, I am lucky to still rely on buy parents for food water shelter etc. I work many hours and very hard in order to fund my fishing. My entire life plan revolves around me literally saving every cent I can when I live on my own. I am planning on renting/buying a super basic and small apartment, cooking cheap healthy food, and minimizing non essentials, fishing being essential. I will allow spending on anything that improves quality of life, ie dentist workout gear, healthy foods, etc. I have developed a mentality and am fully prepared to commit to it, her, I already have!

trailer question
12" I believe. I took trailer tire size into consideration when buying my last boat due to the rotation factor. I can totally see why this is even more important now. Great point. edit: I took the boat to a new lake about 40 min away all highway. Tested it up to 90 mph and no issues, didn't remember to feel for heat though. dad is pulling it took the lake tomorrow. I will see him when he gets here.

Morning Fishing, Avoiding Wind
My lake has been getting hammered lately. Its usually a good fishery, but at 500 acres, it docent take long for 30 boats to fish it out. I went yesterday to test my new boat, 3' waves and 20 mph winds. I got two bites shallow and super tight to cover. Water temps 54*. Planning on going tomorrow morning at sunrise. Anyone fish early during this time of year (located in pa, fish are prespawn)? I think fish are shallow and tight to cover. Game plan is buzz baits without skirt, small spinnerbaits, big swimsuit, squarebill, etc.

Towing Tin Rigs
defensive driving, trailer brakes, upgraded/maintained car brake pads, and caution, you'll be good to go. put the car in 4wd at the ramp

Rig
ive tried it. crystal clear water, mid summer. I threw like 4-5" flukes, 3/0 round bend or egg, and a 7' m spinning rod. not sure if I caught anything. I like the concept tho.

trailer question
finally fixed up my 14'er for electric only lakes. As for the trailer, its a 1973 sea lion, has been sitting in my yard for two years, and before that at least a few. It came with new tires, but it is super rusty. I took it to the lake today, spent decent amount of time on the road, nothing broke. I am worried that the bearings will give when I drive the boat up to my lake house tomorrow. any idea how to check or repair them. I may not be mechanically inclined, but I am determined to learn so shoot.
