17 vs 20 lb floro
im thinking if I get into super heavy cover I have my other rods with braid, so floro is a good alternative

30 vs 40 lb braid
I use 2o for small cranks and topwater, 30 for pitchin, 50 for frogs, buzz, and paddle tails, and 65 for flippin

17 vs 20 lb floro
when would you choose one over the other? This is for a swim jig rod, 1/4 - 1/2 oz, 7'2" MH Mod Fast rod. Will also be for pitching docks on clearer lakes. Watched an interesting video on fall rate for 20 and 10 lb floro, got me thinking...

30 vs 40 lb braid
when would you choose one over the other? Thinking of spooling my main shatter bait rod with 40 lb this summer for grass fishing.

Braid For Deep Cranking
I am spooling my small trebles rod with 20 lb braid this year after switching back and forth between mono and braid. I really liked the responsiveness and sensitivity. When I purchase my deep cranking rod this summer, I am thinking of using 30 lb braid for deep cranking only. I don't think the fish can see the bottom in 25' so why bother with floro or a leader. Its a moderate rod so it will work. anyone else using braid for deep cranking?

Exercises To Improve Performance
just being able to move around the boat quickly and effectively is huge mental endurance and fortitude is key. doing the same thing a thousand time all day long in the heat under intense pressure adds up. being dialed the whole time is important.

Eastern PA Fishing Reports
caught a decent pickerel on a lipless today at the lake house. Stopped by a pond for a few min when I got home and made a few casts, didn't catch anything what are you using it for? SV is great for lighter baits and skipping, K is good for big workhorse baits. Really depends on its intended use.

Open your eyes
I learned this by sight fishing for trout before I ever caught bass. First few times I ever caught a bunch of bass was bed fishing. This is what led to me being confident in clear water and with sight fishing. great post!

Exercises To Improve Performance
yeah I didn't even think about kayaks or row boats. Would definitely help to be in shape. while physical fitness certainly isn't as important as skill level, any aspect that helps a tournament angler is an advantage.

Exercises To Improve Performance
coming off a torn ACL, MCL, and LCL (big oof), and a history of back issues as old as I am, I think its gonna be important to keep up with all this stuff as I get older. Fishing all day, stuff starts to ache no matter how old you are.

Exercises To Improve Performance
If we want to fish tournaments to the best of our ability, we spend hours organizing tackle, respooling reels, cleaning reels, planning etc. Does anyone workout specifically to improve their fishing? I am a Physical Therapy student, so exercise mechanics and physiology are right up my alley. I practice the perfect casting technique to the best of my ability. Here are my thoughts: the better shape you are in, the better you can fish. Faster reaction time = faster hooks = more fish in the well. my thoughts are along the lines of endurance and short burst exercises focusing around the forearms, back upper legs hips and core. Food for thought, a good excuse to work out during quarantine.

Gross Fishy Hands
just watched a video where Seth Feider caught a bass then immediately touched his face afterwords, thats what made me realize this.

Gross Fishy Hands
Whenever I catch a fish, I try to avoid touching it and getting the slime all over me. I hate when my hands are all gross. Some people don't even rinse their hands off after handling a fish. I usually wash my hands in the water and use a towel to dry them.Anybody else feel this way?

Best spinning combo for ned rig
I have a 6;6" ML Berkley Lighnting Shock and a 20 size Flueger President in my boat for beginners. its my trout/ ned rig rod also. It works great, 10 lb braid or 6l mono and boom.

Your Current Top Water Line ?
poppers, spooks, other small baits - 20 lb Cortland Master braid also have a spool of 12 lb mono for clear water frogs - 50 lb master braid buzz baits - 50 lb master braid with 17 lb leader of mono for shock

Simple backing question
I think 10 lb is best. I use the BPS Excell, ten bucks for a giant spool. Like people said, turn the braid around once it gets worn. I like 100ish yards of mainline. minimum amount of backing is enough to cover the spool. can also use electrical tape.

Curado K vs 70 for Flipping
I was gonna say that reel is a bit out of my price range. I just looked on. eBay and they are only 170. thats not bad at all. Since its one of my nicer rods, might as well spend the money. now I have to choose between 3 great options, decisions decisions. Thanks for making it even harder I like the size of my 70. If it weren't for the durability issues som people have brought up I figure it would be a no brainer.

couldn't agree more. Forgot to mention the upside down keitech trick, I just don't use it that much. I love the SIFs on swim jigs along with grubs
