I was wondering about christmas tinsel. I wish i could find @Glenn video i think it was a couple years ago. Definitely not flashabou or krystal flask though.
  2. I am wanting to get into throwing 1-2oz hard swim/glide baits. This is a new thing for me and im not sure what i need to get started. My budget is under 150, preferable closer to 100$. Is a moderate action preferable for these. Im also wanting to pick up a dedicated fliping stick so it would be cool if i got something that did double duty because as i said im on a budget. Could i get away with a 7-7’4” heavy fast rod or am i going to be sacrificing too much performance with the swims to really enjoy it and stick with it? Im spitballing here because im not 100% what im wanting, but id like something that could do both flipping and swimbaiting i guess.

Awhile back, Glenn did a video on tinsel skirts. Ive also seen some living rubber/ tinsel skirt jigs. Where would i get this tinsel? Is it a special lind?
  4. Ive been wondering if it is a local vendor thing based on what you are saying. Pretty much the only places around here to buy line in store are wal mart or Farm and fleet (which is a farm supply/ outdoors type store) ill have to pick some up at a cabelas or off amazon and see if i have the same issues.
  5. This is the most productive, supportive, friendly forum I have encounted. There are no blowhards chastizing anyone for a question. Its a very refreshing place to go in this current social environment. The thought that goes into the answers on some of these posts is remarkable!
  6. My experiencecwith 30deg mustad ewg is ive missed alot swimming a jig, but using it on the bottom it is good as long as i dont overswing. The swimjig thing could just be me though as well.
  7. I am definitely at the point of finding a new mono for leaders and/or spooling. Im going to have to do someresearch. Obviously memory is inherant to mono, but i value something with enough sensitivity for jigs and enough stretch for cranks would be ideal as most of my fishing these days involves traveling light and wading rivers. And lower diameter to poundage. I typically like 2 spools. One in 8lb for spinning and one in 12lb for baitcasting. I understand im asking alot but thats what i need for my style.
  8. River smallmouth rod for cranks, jerks ans 1/4, 3/8 oz spinners I have good luck with my fenwick eagle gt (hmg or hmx would be great if u wanted to step it up). It doesnt do anything great but it does everything well and when wading thats what u need. Plus the rod is going to take a beating so bang for the buck is important. Paired with a lews lfs and 20lb braid, i can cast down to almost 1/8oz jerks.
  9. Because i like getting into the weeds and really messing with semantics, how bout this as a swim jig? ???? seriously though, ive thought about swim jigs early season as well but really havent tryed them a ton.
  10. I am aware, swim jig is a style of presentation. And a very popular presentation for a marabou jigs is to swim it midcolumn. Im just being goofy and in my mind, a marabou jig is an extremely finesse swimmer
  11. yes, i have been seeing weekspots as well. I expect some memory, thats the point of mono. But this is egregious. I am sorely disapointed that it seems like berkley has gone down hill. It is readily available and also worked well. I used to love 12lb sensation on my baitcasters, i wrangled in a good amount of northern with it without getting bit off. Now it is seemingly unusable.
  12. Do these count as a swim jig? https://andyscustombasslures.com/product/marabou-pro-series-jig-2/
  13. Jiust go with a poisontail style jig if you want to do both, 30deg so swims well, but it also comes through cover well. As Munkin said, just tri your weedguards for the situation.
  14. Awesome, absolutely love the creativity
  15. My thing is ive been using sensation and xt for years. I really like sensation. But last few spools ive bought are pretty much unusable. Ive talked to two of my buddys that catfish alot and go through a decent amount of mono and they are saying the same thing. Its odd to me that the three of us are experiencing the same thing and its all since covid hit. Makes me wonder if manufacturers are doing something diff
  16. My aubu silver max isnt aweful. Its certainly serviceable.
  17. Several times over last 2 years. Its been multiple spools. I used to love sensation for both leaders and straight. Ive bought a couple spools of 12 lb and one of 8 and they are all so bad they roll off the spool. I gave up on it as a leader because know strength was weak too.
  18. So that last few times ive bought mono likes (particularly berkley sensation and xt as well as p-lone flueroclear and cxx) it seems like the line has a rediculous amount of memory right out of the box. I mean roll of the baitcaster spool memory. It also hasnt seemed to have the knot strength either. Its been multiple spools now. An anyone else experienced this. Ive talked to a couple friends that have the same experience.
  19. That is something ive considered, betting a bucket of walleye minnow and just slowly working them across bottom on a small jig.
  20. Landing a 20” bronzie. Im starting early and going often. Just need this darned ice to melt. i also want to build and fish some bigger swimbaits.
  21. Welcome, N. Il myself. South of Rockford
  22. Any of you guys have experience with the Illinois Smallmouth Alliance. Ive been thinking bout joining.
  23. I did alittle bit when i was a kid. Always on a silver minnow spoon. Never had any luck at the time. Just remember once they were on the hook, they had to be cut off. But im more knowledgeable now and sure they would be a great weapon in cooler water
  24. I saw them on TW. I completely understand why, but I dont see myself buying many jars at 12$ a pop. I mean they are tiugh as nails so shouldnt go through alot but im on a tight, grad school and divorcee budget ?
  25. Thanks guys, the other thing about chunks is storage. Im ussually wading rivers and only carry a small 3500 bag so space is limited. Beavers and craws take up more room which takes away from my spave for senkos and swim baits. Chunks can fit nicely in a small square without too much concern of bending them up. Hence me wanting to redefine my soft plastic tackle system for wading
