  1. I should mention that this was not my own idea. I saw it in a forum on crappie.com
  2. How in depth do you want to get. Are you looking to start from scratch? Or if you dont want to get to serious as it maybe sounds, making simple skirt modifications to a spinnerbait or a jig can be fun and rewarding. Not sure what you are wanting to get out of it. If you are a walleye fisherman, spinner rigs are really easy and fun. Catfish-making your own dipbait snells is pretty simple too.

You can also attach them in an email. Before you send it to yourself you should be able to select a smaller size.
  4. Heated it right below the bend and made a secondary bend below the original bend with channel locks. I dont have pictures unfortunately. Its my understanding that not all hooks are able to be bent like this.

Id be interested in trying this.
  6. Unfortunately those wont fit in the 1/8 oz mold. Were just very limited on that size. I really dont have an issue with the mustad wide gap hook personally, but i did want to try a lighter wire hook for some hair jigs which is why i modified the ec lil nasty. Those owner hooks smalljaw suggested are aweful pricy if you wanted to do alot of them.
  7. I was able to bend out some ec lil nasty hooks to fit in the mold. They turned out well. I did have to use plumbers putty to fill in around the hook eye and plastic holder in order to prevent flashing. I believe the one in the picture is a 2/0 or 3/0. Dont remember which. I did do a number 1 as well though
  8. What about jig molds. I dont really know much about 3d printing myself, but would it be possible to make a mold for jigs with one.
  9. You can fill the eye with plumbers putty as i have tryed. The plumbers putty was not purfect, but i was not trying to fill the whole thing, just fill in the gaps around a smaller than recommended hook. I believe smalljaw suggested hi temp silicone (the red stuff) in another post regarding mold modifications. This may be better? Feel free to correct me if i am wrong on this.
  10. Yes you can. Just depends on the size of lures you are using. If you are throwing cranks, jigs and buzz baits and spinnerbaits over 1/4 oz, should work fine. I use a 7' mh quantum alliance quite a bit for swim jigs. Does make it tricking manuvering on tight banks however and you have to have a quick thumb.
  11. I dont have any experience pouring tin. How does one go about obtaining it and what are some watchouts with it. Definitely an interesting concept. Kind of the opposite of the reasoning for tungsten. Create a bulkier profile while not adding weight. Ill have to look at a mass comparison chart online.
  12. Thanks smalljaw. Ive given it consideration to modify that mold. i think what i am looking for and what prompted me to think about this is the desire for a 30deg hook eye as much as a weedguard, and the fact that i tied a really bulky marabou jig with tail feathers on it, yet it felt heavier than i liked in the water (drop rate). Made me think how nice it would be to have the same head design in 1/16 or 3/32. -As a side note, your youtube videos on jig tying have been absolutely awesome. My tying ability has improved drastically ever since i discovered those videos. Really appreciate the time you have put into these videos and the consise manner in which you explain the steps.
  13. Not really a nessesity with hair/fur but i'm wondering on options for 1/16 or 3/32 swimjig style head (not looking for custom at this time). Ive tryed hair on 1/8 oz jigs and it is just heavier than i want in some of my applications. I have tyed on ball head jigs as well as my walleye head mold and its fine, but i really like my poisontail jig mold. Thinking something that takes an fg9 or fg12 weedguard would be interesting. Any thoughts.
  14. Been a couple months but i finally got out and tryed out a jig (ag industry s hard on a fisherman). Caught 1 but missed about 10 more. River was up and dirty and current was fast and they were just hitting tail of 5" kalens grub trailer. Lighter 1/4 oz jig and shorter might do better, but then again they might not have been apt to strike.
  15. First venture into making poisontail jigs. What does everyone think, i'm open to critisism
  16. Thats how i organize my soft plastics. Might have to give it a try.
  17. Do Do you let your jigs dry out before putting them away when done with them. Ive had issues with hooks rusting if just throwing them back in a box. Thats one good thing about the foam inserts. Hooks dont seem to rust
  18. What do you guys use for hair jig storage. I made foam inserts for some storage boxes, but im wondering if there is something better. Works ok in the sense that the jigs dry out but i already have too many boxes laying around. Plus marabou jigs seem to get tangled up easily from being so fluffy.
  19. Havent tryed this but jansnetcraft and barlows both. Sell handles and supplies. Ive been wondering if it would be worth the money to do just one as i have a shimano with a broken butt handle
  20. How do you tell if the jig is cured short of throwing it on the garage floor. Is there a visual way of checking. Also, if they dont go long enough, can they put back in after they cool?
  21. Every body of water is different, but in my small river 1/8 oz jigs with a 3-4" curly tail with a small beetle type spinner gets the job done most consistently. Hulagrubs in watermelon red flake can be the ticket at times as well. When they are active, spinnerbaits in chart/white with a chart willow blade burned accross riffles is a hot ticket. Other baits are "8 x raps in clown and rapala dt4 in crawdad. These are what i catch 85% of my smallies on. They seem to love anything in a shade of yellow/chart. I would say it is as much technique and presentation as it is actual lure however. Understanding current is number 1 followed by bottom structure. I catch alot of fish after my jig or crankbait bounces off of rocks or on the 4th or 5th cast accross a riffle burning the spinnerbait back. It seems like sometimes u really have to tick them off.
  22. Might be something i look into smalljaw. I have some pot turkey call striker tops that i could experinet with also with the excess. So that would be something to look into. Appreciate the feedback, your youtube videos on tying have been very helpful by the way.
  23. Good info, i'd been thinking finishing nail possibly but hadnt gotten around to trying it. I purchased fg 12s for that reason. Am i going to have issues with paint clogging up the W.G. Hole? Havent gotten that far as this is my first weedless jig mold.
  24. Recently purchased the smaller poisontail mold. I'd like to mold the 1/8 oz jigs without the weedguard in and then add it later but it isnt set up the same as the other molds until that take base pins. Is there a way to modify this mold or a basepin option that is small enough.
