  1. I loved bison burgers when I was spending time in the ski lodges of Utah, but I haven't been able to get it to taste right trying to use it at home, it always seems dry. Any recommendations on "filler" to give it the juiciness?
  2. Tried mid afternoon on Saturday for an hour. My kid had a bday party to go to so I fished while my wife took him inside. We were a few towns over and it was an unfamiliar body of water for me. Got about a 4" pumpkinseed when I set the hook on a tap, poor guy got my 3/0 stuffed into his side. Beyond that, not much going on but I only tried the stuff I "forgot" was in the wife's car, 2 piece medium moderate spinning rod with 6lb flouro twitching a 4" senko weightless.
  3. I was out Sunday morning. Almost all of my fish were shallow and tight against the wind blown shore of my local small pond. Caught them on weightless senkos and Texas rigged chigger craws. Couldn't buy a bite on spinnerbaits or on topwaters that crushed them a week ago.
  4. Diving depth in meters I believe. 1.5 runs ~ 4 feet for me.
  5. I've been noticing the same thing. Worms have slowed up considerably on my favorite pond. Topwater has come alive though and I've started to have some luck on spinnerbaits. I just figure it has to do with the fish activity level and the fall transition. I follow up with a worm after a blowup/miss on topwater and the just ignore it. Repeat the topwater cast and they try to smoke it again. I decided to stop trying with the worm while other stuff is working better. My worm fishing tends to really pick up again after all the leaves have fallen and the water is cooler.
  6. Frog on the top left is a Renosky Jr's super frog, Walmart carries them
  7. Had my first really good topwater day for the year. Caught about 25 bass, biggest 3 all went around 15", a handful of pickerel, and one crappie who thought my $1 Walmart bargain bin Creme topwater stickbait in Walk the Shad color looked too appetizing to pass up. Tacklebox lid is ~16"
  8. Old post but I found it through search, I am looking at power tilt/trim on my boat also. @Brett's_daddy, did you pick one over the other? Any review or recommendations?
  9. Had some free time late Sunday afternoon. Had 2 of the 3 kids home with me, the oldest was spending the afternoon with a friend. Just said " anybody want to go fishing " and for once both kids said yes. I took them to a local pond that has a playground on the other side of the parking lot just in case the fishing was slower than their attention would allow. My son caught a bunch of sunfish and got his first bass. My daughter caught a bunch of sunfish too. Went through a pack of worms but never had to cut off a hook. Overall it was a successful couple of hours. I got home a bit early from work today and they both asked to go again. I might finally have a fishing buddy or two ?
  10. So, I see you have met the Bait Monkey!
  11. Took the right road in my mind. Talked to HR as was suggested, he isn't a superior, more like an equal from another department. They assured me they would monitor the work environment. I also put a call in to Fish and Game. Apparently I am not the first person to report this guy recently. The "tournament director" of the local Tuesday night fishing group lodged a complaint as well. He was DQ from the most recent event because he brought in a fish with the sunfish and hook still in it, created a huge scene and the PD got involved, no charges filed but they broke up the situation. Wish I knew this before going out with him. F&G is building a case, asked me for all the information I had as well as any pictures I could provide. They want to catch him in the act so there can be no "I caught the sunfish and the bass ate it while I was bringing it in" excuse. I feel better about my decision to wait and not just go reporting right away, I was upset last night and had a much clearer head today. I appreciate the offer but this weekend is filled with a family fishing trip already. I need to get my wife and 3 littles onto some panfish. Already started talking the trip up so they are excited. Now if I can just get them to want to stay out so I can get a few casts in...
  12. Sorry, this is going to be a long post, but I just got back from one fishing experience I will never forget. There is a guy I work with that is always talking about the huge fish he catches. Usually he has pictures to back up his stories. I fish the same waters and have never caught fish in the size or numbers that he regularly does. I just figured he has more time on the water and has it figured out better than I do. Yesterday we were talking and he invited my son and I on his boat for an afternoon/evening trip. I thought it would be a great learning experience for me, maybe pick up a few hints or tips, or he might be able to show me what I am doing differently that is making a difference. His plan for the afternoon was to let the kids fish for bluegill/pumpkinseed and when the light started to fade we would switch to bass fishing. I was totally on board with this plan. We got onto the water and cruised into a small rocky cove, the kids started fishing and were soon into countless 4-6" sunfish. His son was putting his fish into the live well and I figured the were keeping them to eat. They got to the daily limit of 25 fish and he said that's it, pull the lines in. It took about 30 minutes to get to this point. We zoomed out of the cove and he set us up on a weed line in about 15' of water. I fish this line all the time and do ok on it. I started my top, middle, bottom search for fish and he starts laughing at me. I'm puzzled at this but continue fishing. About 5 minutes later I hear a huge splash where he is casting, he says "oh that's a big one". He brings it beside the boat and I net it. 20" and 4.3 lbs. I'm speechless looking at this fish, the gut is huge. He cuts the line and lets it swim away. I think "wait a minute, he never removed the hook" and then I understand why...Those sunfish his kid put into the livewell, he's using them as bait. He catches another fish and this time I ask I can hold it. All I can see down the throat of this bass is a sunfish tail and his line coming from deep in the gut, no hook to be found. He cuts the line and lets it go. I politely inform him that using sunfish as live bait is not legal in our state. He proceeded to tell me he knows but there are no F&G officers around and he does this all the time. I asked how often the bass swallows his bait, his answer was 9 out of 10 times he has to just cut a bass free. I told him that this was not a healthy way to be fishing. All of those bass are left with a hook ripped into their gut and that a lot of the will probably suffer/die because of it. We we had a few heated words about being responsible fishermen and it ended with him calling me vulgar names. I asked him to take me back to the dock. My son and I got off the boat and he proceeded to call me the same thing as he sped away to continue fishing for the night. My son was upset that we didn't get to keep fishing but I explained to him that this man was breaking the law and I wanted nothing to do with fishing like that. My little guy in all of his 8 years of wisdom says "If he is breaking the law, why don't you call the police on him?" That little 8 year old got me thinking maybe I should report it to F&G, it's an easy case to prove, his Facebook, which I checked after going out with him, is filled with posts about how the bass were "loving the sunfish tonight" with the choked down tails sticking out of the gullet in most of his pictures. Am I wrong to make the call or should I just mind my own business and assume there will always be idiots in the world?
  13. Johnson’s beetle spins $.10 and booyah spinner baits $2.50 at my local Walmart. They’re clearing out fishing stuff to make room for hunting
  14. I am by no means an electronics expert but I believe that size of battery will put you in about a group 24. The HDS 12s draw 2 amps max 3 units @ 2 amps @ 12 hours = 72 amp hours. Most of the batteries i see in group 24 size are rated for 80 amp hours so I think this would work. I could however be completely wrong
  15. a quick google search for evinrude 773166 shows it as being listed as a 24v model
  16. Don't overlook the hole and hump just past the end of any ramp where people routinely power load their boats too. The prop wash tends to scour a nice clean hole and move the silts out a bit further
  17. Trimming up the motor isn't an option, its a 1983 Johnson and i can only adjust it by moving the pin. This is not something I would want to do each time i need to move and then again to set up for surveying the area. Anyone have thoughts on a better way to gain the clearance or am i just not at a point with a boat yet where side imaging is possible?
  18. I just took a tm mounting platform off of my boat because it was rotted. The previous owner had carpeted it and left it exposed to the elements. It was installed over the aluminum bow plate and through bolted to the rails along the sides of the boat much like the one in your picture. I plan on putting one back on and doing it the same way but I will make it out of the proper materials. I believe it was 1/2" marine plywood and it definitely had a bow/curve to it where it was bolted to the sides.
  19. I went to BassPro this weekend with the wife and kids. I played around with the different graphs and really like the Garmin units. I have a question about clearance between the hull and motor. The CV transducer is ~6.5” long. I only have 5.5” of space between the hull and motor. Will this cause interference in the side view/ down view?
  20. Added it while you posted, had to switch to my phone to grab the pic
  21. No pics of build but the one in the post above is it sitting on the dock tonight before I took it out for a shakedown cruise
  22. Update on this, I got paid in full for my work and went back a few weeks later and negotiated a sweet deal for the boat. Did a gut/rebuild of the interior. Took about two weeks of after work and weekends but I have it put back together. Took it out toady for the first time and it ran great. Total cost for rebuild, hull, motor, and trailer $600. Now I just need to outfit it with a graph and tm.
  23. there should be a grounding bar where all your grounds connect to
  24. Mister Twister 6" black phenom worms (old bags in banana scent if you can find them)
  25. So I picked up a 30lb thrust MK at a local garage sale for $5 because it "didn't work". I replaced the corroded battery clamps and it runs great. I do have a question for all you canoe/kayak/jon boat guys running a TM and electronics. Can I run both off of the same deep cycle battery or is it wise to get a second smaller one for the electronics? I have an older grayscale Lowrance X-4 unit if it makes any difference.
