  1. Any information about what is under you will be helpful. There was a discussion in another thread about inexpensive kayak fishfinders. Garmin Striker 4CV - 4.3" screen Lowrance Hook2 5X - 5" screen Humminbird PiranhaMax 4DI - 4.3" screen Deeper or Deeper Pro+, screen size determined by device it links to All come in around $200. If you are looking to spend $300 your options will be even better. If you are willing to buy used, your dollars go even further. SI is a wonderful thing to have but doesn't do much if you aren't moving. IMHO you will probably use DI or 2D way more often
  2. I looked all last night trying to find my store number on the web. I couldn't find it anywhere. I found mine on a receipt from a previous purchase.
  3. My local walmart has GYCB senkos marked down to $4 a pack for 4" and 5" and $4.50 for 6"(there are no more watermelon red/black in any size), all zoom plastics are $2 a pack, SK spinnerbaits are $1 for 1/4 oz, $1.75 for 3/8 oz, $2 for 1/2oz. SK squarebills are $3.50 and sexy frogs are $4. All berkley fusion hooks are $1, gamagatsu hooks are $1.25, owner are $2 except the screw lock style.
  4. I bought my wife a lady pfleuger combo because she liked the pretty teal and white swirls on the rod. I use it more than she does, it works great for twitching smaller topwater spooks and poppers. Use what works, if others are busy talking about or laughing at your gear, they are missing out on the fish you will be catching.
  5. Had this happen to my wife and I with the birth of our 3rd child. My insurance company didn't cover the delivery because the hospital listed it as not being inpatient. We came in at 1AM on a Monday. Left at 9PM on a Tuesday. My wife works in the hospital on the floor we were on. Didn't want to stay the extra night only to be hurried out at 7 the next morning. Her Dr was ok with it, we did all the required stuff in the hospital, and went home where she got to sleep in a comfortable bed. 6 weeks later we get a bill from the hospital for over $12k because it was classified as outpatient care due to us not being there the second night. We got charged for every little thing. Took almost 6 months of fighting with the hospital and insurance before it got straightened out. The best part was getting the EOB from the insurance company after the claim was paid. We were charged for everything but the insurance company got everything included in the mother/baby delivery package for $6k and change.
  6. GPS store has a Boat Show discount right now. 93sv for $799 and the 94sv with the lakeview ultra card for $849. Both are last years model and don't include the G3 charts
  7. I've decided to replace the wiring on my new to me boat. I got marine grade wiring, a master switch and a main fuse. I am having some indecision about how to wire up the console. The wiring I plan on removing all comes direct from the battery with inline fuses to each powered item. The battery has about 8 wires coming off the positive terminal and I know I can do a cleaner install. I am thinking it should go battery->main fuse->master switch>-fuse panel->dash switches->item needing power for lights, bilge, etc. but I am unsure about the order of fuses vs switches. I think fuses then switches on the chance a switch ever gets a ground short but am I correct?
  8. You can always just use a 9v battery clip and a 9V battery. I like duracell but energizer work too. Not sure how long it will last but it will work if you get the polarity right.
  9. You can..... but you will need an understanding of dc circuits, power, volts, amps, resistance, etc. This is not a cut and tape and hope it works type of job. You would need to build a circuit where only 9v of the possible 12v supplied by the battery is going to the led light. I have built many voltage reducing devices to run lower voltage items off of available batteries. Most of the time it is not cheap to source the proper components (regulator, resistors, enclosure) for something that will be exposed to the elements. I do it more as a way to keep myself busy with small projects in the winter before the lakes thaw out. It can be done, but as J Francho stated, there are lots of inexpensive options.
  10. Thanks A-jay. Searched all last night and couldn't find that thread. I need to brush up on my search skills.
  11. I got a great deal on a 16' mirrocraft last fall and the wife is in agreement to let me start to outfit it for fishing. Got a Garmin 93sv plus during Black Friday sales, have the funds saved for a TH marine tilt/trim unit and will be ordering that soon. I am searching the market for a TM, I am thinking bow mount and this would be the first time using that style for me. I've had a few different transom mounts in the past but I always felt I was at the mercy of the wind pushing the bow around. I have found about equal pricing on a Powerdrive and Terrova with ipilot. What I can't seem to figure out is what the differences between the 2 models is. I assume the terrova is just a newer model based on the same design but I was hoping someone here that has owned or used both may have some insight as to the differences.
  12. I know a lot of it has to do with the editing and time compression to fit it all in to the 2 hours, but I love seeing how each angler is fishing different water at the same time. Some are a bit deeper, some right on the banks, some are in clear looking water and some are in brown water. I don't typically see that on the bodies of water that I fish and it amazes me how drastically different a single body of water can be yet these guys are still catching fish.
  13. Check out tinboats.net they have all sorts of info available as well as lots of "how to" and "this was my build" threads
  14. Can you load it stern first?
  15. Take a measurement between the bumps the tailgate stops against. On my truck, this is a smaller distance than the side to side across the bed itself. I figured this out after building a rack that i thought i would be able to slide in and out without having to lift in over the gate. I measured and cut everything to fit snugly. My bed was ~52" as well and between the tailgate bumps its only ~48". I felt like an idiot when i tried to push it in the first time and realized my mistake.
  16. If you are using google earth and are looking at the 7/2016 image, I would tend to believe the white dots are not rocks, turning the date back to 9/2012 the water was significantly lower and those white dots are not present in the same locations. Rocks tend to not move. It may be buoys or maybe even birds on the pond surface. The white dots on the 9/2012 image might be rocks (it would be a really widespread field or them) or possibly and more likely in my opinion, windblown whitecaps Older satellite images can be found by checking the Historical Images box under the View tab and then sliding the bar on the timeline.
  17. I built a set of outriggers for my canoe so I could stand and fish. Super stable due to the added width, fits easily into my truck and can be rigged in minutes. There are ways to make almost anything work as a stable fishing platform. What I did notice in the video posted was the guy generally stayed central and did not have a deck. He also made sure to sit anytime he went to lean over to land a fish. A 1036 would work if you are careful about weight position and mindful about how you move about.
  18. Only 18" caught on a Creme topwater stickbait in walk the shad
  19. 6" all black phenom worms are one of my favorite to throw. My biggest "problem" with them is how fast the pickerel eat them around me, I can easily go through 20-25 a day. I bought a 100 pack about 20 years ago from the local tackle shop. I opened them maybe 2 years ago and they still had their awesome banana scent and light oily coating. I haven't purchased any recently, do they still come in the banana scent?
  20. Check out YouTube for the DIY trolling motor bow mount bracket. The guy makes it out of some aluminum and pop rivits. He does add an additional stabilizer in a later video. No need to worry about carpet or potential rot with the wooden deck/supports going this route. DIY Bow mount trolling motor bracket for a Jon Boat / Alumacraft 1236
  21. DSG by me has all SK and Rapala hardbaits normally priced $9.99 or less marked down to $5 each, I grabbed a few RES and DT6s
  22. 50# pink Ande mono is my #1 choice for leader when I fish with trolled live bait for saltwater stripers. We only switch to flouro if they seem line shy. I haven't used 8#, but based on my experiences, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a try
  23. got myself a garmin echomap plus 93sv with transducer for $599 from the gps store
  24. I would think that if your onboard charger was not powered on and you connected the schumacher, it would be about the same as if the motor was running and charging a cranking battery. When that happens, the onboard charger doesn't get damaged. I wouldn't connect and power on both chargers at the same time though.
  25. Thanks, I'll give that a try. Now if I can only convince the wife its ground beef, she might actually let me cook it for the family. She's not too fond of the non grocery store meats I bring home, last time it was something about how can you eat Bambi, and then the look of horror when i told her about the Bullwinkle lasagna she ate the week before.
