  1. Maybe the writers did mean bass lake... as in bass drum! Ha! You know the big deep one!!!
  2. @Bluebasser86 saw you out there today, we were fishing the tubes in front of you guys. Guessing your guide trip got called a little early. That was quite the little couple hour storm. Caught 5 bass biggest was just under 4 lbs. 4 on a Squarebill on the dam and 1 on a shaky head on the tubes. Caught an absurd amount of drum. Biggest was 9 lbs all the rest were 4-6lbs. By the end of the day we got so frustrated catching then that we decided to target them, sight fish them and see how many we could catch on consecutive casts. We got up to 14! It was ridiculous but admittedly kind of fun. Caught one channel cat on 130 Whopper Plopper while we were night fishing. Im pretty sure the guys that wrote for B.A.S.S. got drum confused for bass when they selected La Cygne as one of the top 10 bass lakes in the Midwest.
  3. I’m not a very brave boat so the only time I will probably be running will be on the big open part of the lake. Once/if I get toward or back up into the creek it’s gonna be idling only for me. Nonetheless, I will heed your warning and be extra cautious, especially since I am planning on doing some night fishing. Heading down in t-minus 6 hours!
  4. What maps are you guys using for La Cygne? I don’t see it on Lakemaster or the FishSmart App. Is it only available via Navionics?
  5. This happened last Friday. Jig fishing a rock pile I get a bite and set the hook. I had definitely hooked into something but it felt more like something inanimate like a small twig or bag. Reeled it back to the boat and it was a ~4 lb bass. Dead. Not sure if the hookset was too much stress for it or if the hook had somehow hit an important nervous system structure but the fish was dead. It definitely tugged on my line prior to the hookset.
  6. Decided to keep them and finish the install. Just enough room for a step and maybe even room for a cup holder or two and maybe even a small hatch. Really like the way they turned out. Really updates the boat!
  7. The R70 has a relatively narrow beam. Im gonna keep the seats and make my own “coin box”.
  8. There is no magic to them other than they come with quality hardware (hooks/split rings) and they have been marketed well. Get the same baits and color styles you would with any other brand. Good luck.
  9. Got a killer deal on some newer seats from a bigger Ranger boat. Test fitting them and not sure if I want to keep them or not. On the plus side they really make the boat look updated and they are very comfortable and spacious. On the negative side they don’t leave much room between them for a center console and don’t leave much room for someone much bigger than me to fit comfortably behind the console. Any thoughts or suggestions?
  10. Heading down to La Cygne this coming Thursday the 20th. Does the lake “close”? Or is there a time you have to be off of the water? I know some of the power plant lakes have rules like that. Hoping to do some fishing into the night. Gonna meet my dad there on Thursday, stay in a cabin and fish til ~5 on Friday then head back to Omaha.
  11. Got on a really fun big Swimbait/wakebait bite! Will update with more info and pics later.
  12. Negative. You may be thinking of nettles. Poison Ivy takes hours to have an effect. It is a type of immune reaction and takes some time for the immune cells to start coming to the area. Also, wearing long pants and shirts doesn’t do a lot for poison ivy because the oil, urushiol will get on your clothes and then when you touch your clothes to take them off you can spread it on your body. Fortunately, it can be rinsed off before it binds to your skin if you rinse it off within minutes. I wish I was like that. I am SUPER sensitive to it. So much so that I have been hospitalized 3 times due to exposure. Now I am super paranoid about it. So much so that if I come within 10 feet of anything that even looks like it I rinse myself immediately. The last time I got it I am about 99% sure I did NOT come into physical contact with it.
  13. Thinking of driving down to La Cygne next Thursday and fishing Thursday night and Friday. Is it even getting pretty busy on the weekdays?
  14. Fished a tournament there last year and every boat culled. That lake is gonna be hot stuff. Its seems to be pretty popular in the summer time with pleasure boaters AND when I went back there in July it was super grassed in.
  15. Side imaging works fine on the trolling motor. It doesn’t work as well as on the transom because of the turning of the trolling motor, but I can still get fantastic images with side imaging on the front of my boat. That being said, if I had to choose the transom or the trolling motor I would 100% put it on the transom. I use my side imaging most effectively to cover lots of water to find targets. I find that done most effectively putting around with the big motor. 1. If I had to pick between side imaging and 360 up front I would go with 360. However, if I had to choose between 360 anywhere or side imaging at the transom I would go with side imaging on the transom. 2. The order of how I would and did rank spending my money would go like this. -1 Side imaging at the console -2 360 at the bow -3 Side imaging at the bow Many units are capable of networking so you can see the same information on the bow and console. A common setup is to have a sonar/down image setup on the trolling motor and a side imaging setup at the transom. 3. A 7” will work. Most people will say get the biggest unit you can afford especially if you are using side imaging. While it’s nice to be able to clearly resolve each pebble in a rock pile on a 12” unit, it’s not necessary. Simply looking at the unit and being able to tell that there is something different on the bottom is enough information to give you a new casting target. Hope this helps.
  16. Maybe I put the bands on too tight (too long and wrapped around) or don’t have surgical dexterity. I found myself with hooks in my fingers or gloves when I tried this for a bit. Abandoned it because I found myself just cutting the bands off after attending just as much time trying to get them off as I would have spent untangling hooks.
  17. Any secrets to removing the bands?
  18. Went to a nearby lake that used to secretly hold a very good population of 6, 7, and 8 lbers (so good that you could almost count on catching one or more that size one each trip). The water was clear so I had to pull out “The Babe” in hopes of in taunting one on the higher end of the scale. Well it wasn’t the fish I was hoping to catch to trash my Babe, but I’ll take it (~2.5 lber). Had lots of bigger fish striking the d**n head of the thing. I’d watch fish strike it multiple times on the way back to the boat, but couldn’t get a hook in them. I tried switching over to a pre-rigged version with a hanging treble but there was too much grass for that to work. I was planning on running back through the area where I was getting bit with a weightless senko or fluke but I ran out of time.
  19. i've tried a whole variety of different products including Cat Crap with no success.
  20. Things are getting out of control. I definitely have too many brief moments while wandering the hospital to obsess about the next add-on for the boat. Next thing “simple” thing I want to do is remove the Tracker decals and replace with Mercury decals.
  21. The dealership has a reputation to withhold whereas Joe Blow does not. I would think it would be “safer” to be a used boat from a dealer.
  22. There are vented ones. However, I still get fog with mine if it’s not really hot outside. my solution has been to pull the gaitor down under my nose. Seems to help a lot.
  23. <= profile pic is the oldest pic we still have. I was 4 years old in that picture. Been fishing since 1991 (I was 2 years old). It is also the very first memory that I have.
