  1. This was from minn kota tech support, when I was having problems getting the puck to calibrate. "The puck does not control spotlock. Its only purpose is to orient the front of your boat, for the spotlock jog function" My puck was next to the console and getting magnetic interference from something in that area. I moved it to the bow and it calibrated on the first try. It did not improve spotlock, but made the spotlock jog function work properly. Tech support also said if spotlock is overcompensating, adjust the boat scale setting. All of their motors are setup from the factory for a specific boat weight. If your boat is lighter it will overcompensate. If it is heavier, it will work harder trying to hold position. My boat is a ranger z175. I have the ultrex 80. My boat was overshooting position. I turned boat scale down to the -1 setting. Spotlock started holding position better.
  2. congrats on the 3 and 4 pound smallies. If you used a scale I would get it checked.
  3. Scorpions. Wind of change. Not that I was a huge scorpions fan. More that is a reminder to an end of the cold war, that a lot of us lived through in our younger years.
  4. I no longer use any spiderwire products. All of their lines are very inconsistent. Their only plus was ,Wal-Mart always has it in stock. Wal-Mart also carries power pro, which is a much better line than anything spiderwire makes.
  5. If it has a mechanical or throaty song it is usually a brewers blackbird or red wing black bird.. around here brewers are only around during migration, but the red wings are everywhere. They can both make quite a raucous when you get a flock of them. grackles usually have a green or blue head.
  6. I have a 7ft 3in heavy-fast BuCoo. In my opinion it is closer to a medium/heavy. Pretty decent rod for its price range. It is my worm rod. The rod is light and relatively well balanced. It has a soft tip but the rod loads pretty quick on hooksets. I think it cost me around $90.00 a couple years ago.
  7. I have one of those. They work, but it seems to take a long time to heat up on my grill
  8. If you are talking about the GPS puck. It has nothing to do with the motor holding position. All the puck does is orient the front of the boat for the spotlock jog function, on your remote. If your motor is overworking, while trying to hold position, there should be a boat scale calibration setting for your motor. The motor comes calibrated to a particular boat weight, depending on motor size. Boat scale calibration allows you to adjusts the motor for your particular boat. This is assuming you have an ultrex. I have never heard of the llya
  9. I am curious, why dont you want to attach it to the trolling motor. While your method will probably work, if you fish shallow water, it will just be a matter of time before it gets broken.
  10. Yesterday WYCO gave me my first skunk there in a long time. I did have 3 swipes at my umbrella rig, but no hookups. Did not even catch a trout.
  11. Flourocarbon can be tricky with the knots. From my own experience the Palomar and improved clinch knot have to be tied perfectly. I use the double pitzen. It cushions the line and is very easy to tie. I have never had a break off with this knot and fluorocarbon. Shaw grigsby has a few videos on how to tie it. Unless you are built like the hulk and using a broomstick rod, 16 pound line should not break on a hookset.
  12. I would talk to mercury. When I bought my boat with a mecury pro xs 115 in 2017, I called mercury and asked. They said the warranty is void if I added sandwich brackets. The only way to not void the warranty was to use a jack plate. I decided not to add talons. Things might be different now.
  13. Yes and no. Ranger warranty service is now part of the white water group. Not near as accomodating as the original warranty service. I spent a couple weeks back and forth with them, on an air void under the gel coat . Had to pay for the work myself. They said it was cosmetic, not structural. It cost me $1800.00 to fix.
  14. I do this quite a bit. It really works . It also works with braid, but you can burn your fingers, if you are not careful.
  15. 90% of my casts are within 20 yards. crankbaits, maybe out to 50 or 60. for those who say the average cast is 75 to 100 yards, I hope you don't bowhunt, because your yardage estimation sucks.
  16. At that price range a diawa exceler is hard to beat.
  17. Not sure if you realized it, but this is a 4 year old thread. I find it interesting that you have no complaints, but replaced the deck and floor 4 times. One time would make me complain.
  18. You might want to check out the compatability of the universal transducer and the g3n graph. I had a similar issue with my shoot thru hull transducer. It worked fine with my g2 hummingbird. When I upgraded to a g3n the depth either would not read or read improperly. I had to upgrade my transducer to fix the problem.
  19. I have a bass pro brand similar to this. it works good in deeper water. I use the frabil 9865 more. it works great if you launch a bait into the trees. it will extend to 15 feet.
  20. In 2 years I have owned 3 speed demon pro rods. I now have none. I had a : 1: chatterbait rod it was ok, but the tip snapped swinging a 2 pounder into the boat. 2. jerkbait rod. It broke when I slapped the boat, working a jerkbait. 3: jig/worm casting rod. It snapped setting the hook. Edit: I had a fourth rod. It was the spinning jig/worm rod. I did not like the action, so I donated it to bass pro on their spring trade in program. They are, in my opinion, fragile and not very responsive. For roughly the same price a st Croix mojo bass. Or Okuma evx rod is a much better choice.
  21. pound test is not a good benchmark for line performance. line diameter gives a better reference. Trilene big game 10 pound test is .012 inches in diameter. sunline sniper 14 pound test is .0122 inches diameter. Short answer is yes if you are used to fishing 12 pound mono generally you can move up to 14 pound fluorocarbon and still have about the same diameter line.
  22. Quality fluorocarbon line is not cheap. I use sunline sniper. 14 pound sniper is the same diameter or thinner than most monofiliament lines. Invisx is also a good all around fluoro line. Tatsu is one of the best. but very expensive. if you don't want to spend the extra money for good fluorocarbon line I would stick to mono. cheap fluorocarbon line will give you headaches, with manageability and random breakoffs. whatever you decide on do not use berkley vanish. It is the worse fluorocarbon line on the market.
  23. Never. mine are mounted in the dash and flush mounted at the bow. while not impossible to steal, it would take a few minutes. plus If it is not in the garage I am usually in the boat
  24. Had an eagle grab a white bass right in front of my boat. A goose attacked my boat when I got too close too its nest. does that count. Other than that not much else has happened to me.
  25. I always have a lock on my receiver and coupler. It appears ranger trail trailers are popular among thieves. Someone actually bent the pin on my trailer hitch lock, in broad daylight, at a local reservoir. Fortunately they did not have the proper tools or someone interrupted their endeavor. It took me an hour with a Dremel to cut the bent pin off, so I could unhook the trailer from the truck.
