I think you're right about the pauses in cooler water. A number retrieves can be used. There are times (after cranking it down) you can think of it as a top water, small twitches and pauses. Depending on your patience you can let it sit. Go completely in the other direction and use it as a slash bait, yank the stew out of it with long rod sweeps. May not be much help and sounds contradictory. It's just one of those baits that there seems no wrong way to work it, just wrong time... skillet

I'm pretty sure it was Wayne P. who did an experiment using sun screen. Actually put the stuff on his bait and it didn't seem to make a difference... skillet

Nothing scientific about this. IMHO the best you could hope for with scents, bass might just hold onto the bait a little longer... skillet
