  1. Here's my weakness and quite the paradox. Fishing a jig, I'm terrible at it. Here's the weird part, I've caught exactly two fish on a jig. A drum and my PB (6.5 lb) smallie! Either dropped it right on top of her or she was the dumbest smallie in the lake! I keep trying though. Big swimbaits. Like @TnRiver46, night fishing is also a weakness. I can get up at 0300 to go fishing, but can't stay up all night. My strength, other than jig and big swimbait fishing, I'm pretty versatile.
  2. My previous reply has my wondering, does anyone know how much B.A.S.S. charges to bring an Elite Series tournament to a town? I'm was thinking that it has to be pretty expensive, but then there are smaller towns that manage to get an Elite tournament.
  3. In my serious tournament fishing days, I had around 40 combos, casting and spinning. After retiring from my job and tournament angling I now have and use six casting combos and four spinning combos for bass fishing, different actions. Also have three spinning combos for panfish and trout fishing.
  4. While I do agree with you, they go where the cities/ chambers of commerce/ sports authorities (Knoxville) pay them to go. While I don't know the cost, maybe B.A.S.S. should look at dropping their booking fee (my words, don't know what they call it). I would love to see the Elites go to some other places, be they places they've not been in a while or places they've never been. Let's be honest, membership is no more than a subscription at this point. All print publications are experiencing drops in subscriptions. Just like with mlf, FFS tournaments are boring for all with exception of us diehards and to be honest this diehard hates watching them. The mlf has the luxury of having an owner that also owns a TV network and replays that mess every weekend. B.A.S.S. doesn't seem to replay their tournaments other than on demand if you have that option.
  5. @Way north bass guy, I would love to see some bass tournaments up that way too!
  6. Congratulations on paying off your rig! I wish you many years of success with her.
  7. I'm not big into the extra knot in a leader set up. I've gone back to straight mono for everything, adjusting the strength to the situation. I have purchased a spool of Yo Zuri copolymer line to try out. Haven't had the opportunity it yet.
  8. @TnRiver46 and @AlabamaSpothunter, I haven't been on Wheeler since around 2008ish. Didn't realize that it had gotten bad. Anyone know the reason?
  9. @Dannyinorthidaho, You asked for opinions/ suggestions, you got plenty of them. Some you might like, apparently some you that you don't. There's no need to be rude or attack the folks giving you what you asked for. If you don't want to hear what folks have to say, don't ask. It's just that simple. Your financial situation is just that, yours. @Glenn, @TnRiver46 or other moderator's, please put a stop to this one it's only going to go downhill from here.
  10. @TnRiver46, Wheeler is one of my favorite lakes to fish! Second Creek, the Elk River, get excited just thinking about it.
  11. I'm with you, I love a good grinder event such as the Sabine. Hopefully they'll go back next year.
  12. I don't see me ever dropping $5000.00, okay $4999.99 on anybody's trolling motor. Just not ever gonna happen.
  13. Thank buddy, I'm going to do my best to get out next week too. Hopefully in the morning.
  14. I've been reading and seeing a lot of stuff concerning black soft plastics. I have done the same as @Darth-Baiter and purchased a few packs of different black soft plastics, Zoom in my case. Looking forward to trying them out.
  15. While it hasn't been officially announced, I read that it was lymphoma.
  16. RIP Jimmy Buffett. I hope that you're enjoying that "Cheeseburger in Paradise".
  17. Welcome! Go Big Orange ?
  18. It's your money, your decision and I don't know your financial situation. That said, I can't imagine not having a boat. If nothing else, do like @MN Fisher, me and other's have done and build you a bass-jon, or just fish out of a regular jon. You can still find a good deal on a used 14' to 16' jon and trailer, be it a flat bottom or a v-hull. As far as a motor, you could get by with a trolling motor until you save for an outboard. That said, I don't believe in debt, so I pay cash for everything. Some folks enjoy being in debt, I don't. Part of my peace of mind comes from knowing that I own everything I have including my home. But, as in everything, to each his own.
  19. Fixing to head to the Monroe, LA Academy right now to pick up some sneakers. I'm not telling the bait monkey where I'm going ?
  20. Wow, didn't see that one coming.
  21. If you were asking me, I haven't. I've fondled a few in the store and they seem nice but I haven't purchased any.
  22. In addition to other brands, I use their crankbait's. Personally feel that they are the best store branded crankbait on the market. That said, all of mine were purchased prior to the repackaging. I've never purchased one that didn't run true straight out of the box.
