  1. I like the "Sunsect" sunscreen/insect repellent. Started wearing it when I used to wad a lot, it really works well. The only drawback is it's SPF 15. If you're fair skinned it might not be right for you. Not a problem for me, to be a Caucasian, I have pretty dark skin. I'm running low and can't find anymore. I've been reading good things about the Bullfrog brand of sunscreen with bug repellent. Might give it a try.
  2. One of my old ultra lights has some decent backbone for an ultra light rod. I still prefer the light action rods but, as in all things, to each his own.
  3. I don't remember where, but years ago I read an interesting piece on ultra light vs. light rod and reels. The jist was that buggy whip ultra lights really aren't ideal. It recommended going to a light action rod and a minimum 2000/ 200/ 20 (depending on the manufacturer) size reel. I made the move and never looked back. I've got three ultra light rods still, they're in the closet.
  4. Nothing unethical about graphing and/or fishing the spot at all.
  5. Ken, I'm very happy with my Mighty Max lithium battery!
  6. I couldn't agree more. I'm pretty much a loner, but I am somewhat of a people watcher. Sometimes I speak to folks, sometimes I don't but they are interesting. I enjoy a toasted plain bagel with strawberry flavored cream cheese every once and awhile. Toasted to the point of almost burnt, dark edges.
  7. @MN Fisher, my angling brother from the hinterlands, it's cool by me. Somebody's got to like 'em?. We'll still be friends. If the wife and I ever get up your way, we'll go out for doughnuts and coffee.
  8. If I buy, I choose. Never anything filled with anything. I hate cream or jelly filled doughnuts. To be honest, even though I am a retired L.E.O, I don't particularly like any type of doughnuts. If the family wants them, I'll go to the shop and pick them up.
  9. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
  10. Congratulations on your acceptance in to law school! Well done
  11. That's not a bad idea at all. I'm going to use it. Thank you
  12. That's what I use for spinnerbaits, buzz baits and chatter style baits.
  13. I'm with you @Darth-Baiter, my first trip or two are always an adventure!
  14. @N Florida Mike, I too have noticed standards of public behavior, and behavior in general have slipped. I never heard any type of profanity used by my mother. My father was a WW2 veteran, that said he may have dropped a knuckle buster type of profanity slip but to be completely honest I don't remember him ever cussing. My sister's rarely use foul language, I'm the only one in my family that uses any type of profanity, nothing that I'm proud of.
  15. When you say that he contacted Bass Cat, did he email them or call? I know that email is easier, but in this case I would have called. After a year, the master cylinder on my ChampioN's trailer went out. I don't remember who the trailer manufacturer was, but after a call to ChampioN and to the trailer manufacturer, I had a new master cylinder enroute at cost. Email is great, sometimes an old fashioned phone call will get a person further along. By the way, I agree with everyone, at the cost of these new rigs, a matching spare wheel and tire should be standard.
  16. I'm going to be totally honest. I use profanity, it's a habit that I wish that I had never started. I do not use the Lords name in vain and rarely drop the f-bomb. In certain places, in certain company I don't use it at all. Started while playing football in high school. The Army and my law enforcement career didn't help at all. It's no excuse, I hate it.
  17. What @Darth-Baiter said. Ovals are the way to go. I've got several sizes, try to match the wire size of the split ring that's being replaced.
  18. I'm with you @Spankey, I frequent my local mom and pops as much as possible. My problem is the closest good mom and pop is 45 to 50 miles away. I've even toyed with the idea of opening a small shop, but I'm really enjoying being retired. There is one about 25 miles from my house, but good night Irene, they are crazy expensive. They also sell hunting equipment, guns and high end outdoor clothing. I'm thinking that is their "bread and butter", their fishing dept is just a small add on to keep a little money coming in. For me, BPS, FishUSA, Omnia, Academy and Scheels are easier unless we're planning a trip. I've tried TW twice. Shipping times were horrible and my card was compromised. That was it for me, but the with the amount of folks that speak highly of them here they must be doing something right. As in everything, to each his own.
  19. I've asked about the lack of a packing slip. They used to enclose one. Last month I ordered a couple of rods. I ordered two piece rods instead of one piece, so I needed to do an exchange. They emailed me a packing slip, even though I didn't need one to exchange. I was told that it's a paper saving deal. All you have to do is ask should you ever need it.
  20. I have caught more river smallies than I can count casting a Strike King Bitsy Tube. Tried flipping tubes off and on for years. To this day I still haven't caught one using this technique. I'm going to watch @Glenn's videos. Hopefully the tide will turn.
  21. I'm glad that you have received the help that you need brother. Mental health issues are no joke, but I don't need to tell you. Like @Captain Phil, my mother suffered from mental illness to the point of being institutionalized for quite some time. I was five or six at the time and I just didn't understand what was going on. She was released after a long while, but had to see a therapist and be medicated pretty much for the rest of her life. Thanks to all of that, she had a very good quality of life. I suffer from fairly mild PTSD. It's very manageable, I know my triggers and I have a faith in my Lord and Savior. Some do, some don't, it's their choice and I judge no man. @ironbjorn, I will be praying for you. My closest friend in the world has extreme PTSD and is bipolar. He's medicated and wading for smallmouth is his release. You stay excited about fishing this spring. One thing about this community, we're here for each other.
  22. What he said. With BPS if they have your items in the warehouse, that's where your order ships from. If not, the warehouse ships what they have, the rest comes from a store. Sometimes multiple stores. I've never found it to be frustrating, always get my stuff on the date promised if not the day before. For me, BPS standard shipping is always faster than TW.
  23. @casts_by_fly, I watched the Hallman video that you suggested. Good video, even though it didn't answer my question, it was very informative. Thank you
  24. I keep two sizes of trailer hooks in my boat. Rarely ever use them.
