  1. That's a beauty! 8-)
  2. http://www.ndow.org/fish/where/by_water/results.asp?species_name=Largemouth+Bass&Submit=Search I posted the smallmouth answer in the smallmouth section. 8-)
  3. Here ya go: http://www.ndow.org/fish/where/by_water/results.asp?species_name=Smallmouth+Bass&Submit=Search
  4. Welcome aboard! 8-)
  5. Yo-Zuri Hybrid is a BONDED, not coated fluorocarbon/nylon blend (copolymer). Give it a try and see if you like the line, it's not expensive. Spinning tackle: #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb breaking strength) Baitcasting gear: #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb breaking strength) I also suggest treating all line with KVD Line & Lure Conditioner. 8-)
  6. Well, if you plan to keep her, help her. Gentle instruction and thoughtful direction goes a long way. After the second rod, it's kinda your fault for not getting a little more involved. When I fish with newbies, I don't fish.
  7. Well.... I didn't care for it too much.
  8. VERY nice! 8-)
  9. Looks about 2 1/2 - 3 lbs to me, 4 tops. Not enough girth to make 5.
  10. Large green minnows, commercially raised; fished on a Gamakatsu #6 Octopus Circle Hook, Yo-Zuri Hybrid, G. Loomis PR844S and Shimano Stella 2500FA. The fish were caught below Pickwick Dam in January, 2005. The week before I had my best smallmouth outing ever: 15 fish, 7 over 5 lbs! Some pictures from that outing are in this article: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/smallmouth_record.html 8-)
  11. I agree, but NEVER pay retail! BPS and Cabela's rotate their "on sale" combos, but they are always on sale sometime during the year. Focus on the reel and whatever rod they match with it as a combination. In your price range, I recommend a Shimano Symetre spinning reel or if you decide to go with a baitcasting rig, the Shimano Citica. 8-)
  12. Scheduling the "time" is the only issue. Otherwise, the cost of the entire week is very low. If you are just fishing two days, Wednesday and Thursday are best, our banquet is Wednesday night. 8-)
  13. The fat one was the best fighting freshwater fish I have ever caught, just over 7 lbs. An hour and a half later, my personal best. About four inches longer, but just a pound heavier. <------------------ ;D ;D ;D
  14. Straight from the horse's mouth! Thank you! 8-)
  15. Same style (Offset Round Worm Hook), but I fish Gamakatsu 5/0. 8-)
  16. I fish the GYCB 5" Single Tail Grub. Long casts and a steady retrieve to immitate a baitfish. It's really that simple. The key is depth: You need to have the bait in front of fish! 8-)
  17. Spinning gear: Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb breaking strength). Baitcasting: Hybrid #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb breaking strength). 8-)
  18. I have been fishing the Senko since 1997, most of the time in the same water year after year. Like other worms and jigs, I don't think fish ever get "use to" this bait. If you haven't fished the Fat Ika, add that to the mix. Differfent profile and different action, but fished the same as a Senko. Sometimes the Fat Ika is more productive and it's very unlikely your bass have seen much of this bait. 8-)
  19. ** MODERATOR NOTE ** We can do this every month, everyone seems to enjoy the discussion. However, the thread highlighted above isn't a week old, so let's move on for now. Goodnight Irene. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator
  20. The Koolie Minnow (floating) in chartreuse. I caught my biggest bass at this year's Roadtrip on this lure. Casting is excellent and the action is very active. I fished it fast like an X-Rap over structure. *** (BR Sponsor) sells them through his online store. http://stores.shop.ebay.com/***-Store__W0QQ_armrsZ1 8-)
  21. Don't set the hook until your rod loads to where you can feel the fish, exactly like fishing a Slug-Go (fluke). 8-)
  22. Nice fish! Buy a scale and you will know for sure. 8-)
  23. Nearly all of my biggest largemouth have been caught on a Senko. Several years ago I started using the 6" version because the 5" bait simply attracts too many fish and the vast majority are under 5 lbs. Moving to the 6" Senko does not eliminate dinks, but reduces the number significantly. Catch fewer fish, catch bigger bass. 8-)
  24. WOW! Print out Roger's response or put it in your "Favorites", it's definitely a keeper!
  25. It's just bad karma. When you carry a scale and/or camera, the "little" 4's and 5's just become more aggressive. The 8's and 9's just can't get to the bait quick enough. 8-)
