Advantages of spinning reel
#1 No backlash when a Senko goes airborne! I fish all weightless soft plastics on spinning tackle. #2 Better drag release when a big brown fish takes off! #3 Generally handles lighter line better. #4 Much faster line retrieve. #5 Greater casting distance and better accuracy for me. And #6 Raul, You can spend as much as you like on spinning reels, too! Note: The new Shimano spinning reels may not have "eliminated" line twist, but it has been dramatically reduced. 8-)

My line keeps breaking
That's very likely, especially if the burrs are past the first few feet of line. Use a Q-Tip to check the eyelets for cracks or breaks. Do the same with the reel. 8-)

Columbia River. HELP!!!!!
Your second post and you bring up a two year old thread to diss a senior member of this forum? That's not how it works around here. Spend some time being positive and adding something worthwhile to the discussion before you start picking a fight. This thread is closed. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

My line keeps breaking
Hmm..."Pitted"? What do you think? Three months can be an eternity. Try another brand, too. P-Line CXX or Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 is much stronger line.

Looking to Get Some new stuff.
I use both, but since you are just getting started, the learning curve for spinning tackle is gentle. Why not focus on catching some bass this year and mess with equipment (baitcaster) next year? 8-)

Looking to Get Some new stuff.
Great advice if you decide to go with baitcasting gear. 8-)

Looking to Get Some new stuff.
This might help: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1141187546 Specifically, I would recommend the St. Croix Avid AVS68MXF and the Shimano Stradic 2500 FI or perhaps the new 2500 CI4 if you want to wait a couple of months. This would be an outstanding "all-around" spinning combination. 8-)

Promote the sport of fishing?
I'm all about kids, friends and Muddy's program, but that doesn't necessarily equate with promoting the sport to all those recreational boaters or for that matter, the general public. One of the really nice aspects of fishing on the Tennessee River, as opposed to the reservoirs, is difficulty and danger. We have some striper competition, but the crappie, sauger and catfish guys fish an entirely different way than smallmouth fisherman. It's rare to run into more than a few bass fishermen on the river and I like that just fine! 8-)

How do you match the forage base?
"Match the hatch" is a concept better suited to trout fishing. Bass are far more opportunistic. As Catt and Rick Clunn say over and over again, it's all about finding the fish. Focus on structure and cover, then depth and presentation. The right color sometimes helps, but it is the last factor to consider. 8-)

Loomis Rod suggestion
I have recently bought a MBR (GLX), BCR (GLX) and a PR844C (GLX) for around $250 each, delivered. All three were purchased from members on our Flea Market. 8-)

Will this fish be okay. Number two.
Try a couple of other knots. It's not just the old argument about strength, some knots are just better because of the mechanics involved in tying them. The Palomar Knot is one: http://www.animatedknots.com/palomar/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com The Sixteen-Twenty is another: http://206.210.94.83/collaterals/pdf/fhf_knot_sixteen_twenty.pdf 8-)

Loomis Rod suggestion
The IMX MBR844C is a fine rod at a reasonable price. This is what I would consider the best all-around value. The GLX BCR854 is an excellent rod. Pricey, but worth the money. I have both in the GLX version. Although both rods can be used for jigs or soft plastics, my MBR is dedicated to weighted soft plastics and the BCR854 to jigs. 8-)

Reel trouble
Try taking it back for exchange or credit. It's probably time to move up to spinning tackle. You can probably find a great deal on a used Shimano Symetre or Stradic in our Flea Market from time to time. 8-)
