The best rod and real combos for smallmouth
I suggest focusing on the reel, so any 6 1/2' or 7' Medium Power/ Fast Action "in-house" rod matched to a Shimano Symetre, ON SALE. Never pay retail, these combinations are on sale often. 8-)

Best line for soft plastics and jigs?
Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb breaking strength). Baitcasting gear: Hybrid or Ultra Soft #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb breaking strength). 8-)

One brand for all applications?
Although I prefer "collecting" technique specific rods, this is the simple answer: You only need one rig to fish. I would recommend a 6 1/2' or 7' spinning outfit; Medium Power/ Fast Action. If you prefer baitcasting, 6 1/2' or 7' Medium Heavy/ Fast Action. If you buy both of the rigs I have described, your next acquisition should be Medium Power/ Moderate action rod for all treble hook lures. These three rods are all you really "need". Regarding brands: Shimano reels, of course. My preference for rods is G. Loomis for techniques requiring sensitivity (jigs and soft plastics); St. Croix Avid for "moving lures". 8-)

Burley's Random Photo of the Day - turkey lurkey do
Nice pic, I rarely see them in the woods. They usually spoke easily unless they are out in the open where they can see what's goin' on. I'll bet they had a few more friends hiding somewhere close. 8-)

Plan to spend the better party of a day. Take your time at every stop. But when you get to the pond...well, just relax and let your mind wander. The park is VERY special. 8-)

Striper Setup
My rig is a G. Loomis MBR844C/ Shimano CTE200GT/ Yo-Zuri Hybrid #15. The majority of the striper we catch below the Pickwick Dam are 8-12 lbs. However, we occasionally find a 20+ and this year, several 30+. My rig is not too heavy, but not too light for any fresh water fish and light saltwater fishing. 8-)

Is the Forrest Wood Cup on Three Rivers a good idea?
Me, too! p.s. I think the average "keeper" was 3/4 lb, not 1.6 lb lunker.

"WHAT DOES IT MATTER?"
27 posts and posting a rant about other members already? Good luck man. Hahaha. I find that pretty FUNNY. It seems like this guy thinks he's His greatest gift to forums.. He might think so. He's a moderator, so what does this tell you? : I'm not sure what your point is in this post, but the general tone is degrading. More importantly, this is NOT a Forum that allows members to dictate "terms of use" to other members. This thread started out aggressive and then you became rude. Perhaps this is the wrong place to hang your hat. This thread is closed. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

Where did Loomis go?
David, I hope YOU buy a few blanks or finished rods so we have a professional, unbiased opinion on the goods. I'm sure there will be lots of reviews on various websites, but I would sure like to hear your take. -Kent

1. No one has ever been left behind and that will not happen this year, either. 2. There is no requirement to stay with the group. The $50 sign up fee is for a group dinner and some other expenses. 3. You will need to work out shared travel and lodging, but nearly everyone shares a room or cabin and I know we have several members coming from the St. Louis area. Perhaps someone will respond directly. Otherwise, keep asking around. 8-)

Ready to spool up....but with what?
The P-Line is strong and highly abrasion resistant. I fish Yo-Zuri Hybrid #12 which has very similar attributes. Other favorites around here include Gamma copolymer, Trilene XT and Big Game. If the price isn't important, Sunline Shooter Defier is outstanding. 8-)
