Rephrase a question on a baitcasting reel and purchasing equiptment
Personal choice is the deciding factor, but not the basis for equipment decisions. Maybe this will help: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1196114229

Problem w/ St Croix Legend Elite
It's not better. I have two Legend Elite that I like and bought on sale for a significant discount to G.Loomis: ES70MF and EC70MHF. I consider the Elite Series comparable to Loomis IMX. I also fish Avids: AVS66MLF, AVC66MF and AVX70MM. They are all fine rods at their pricing points and for the techniques I use them for. On the other hand, my two G. Loomis rods are my favorites: GLX MBR844C and GLX PR844S. 8-)

Your favorite reel brand
Yes I have heard of these "non-Shimano" reels. The best place to locate non-Shimano reels is the clearance bin of your favorite retailer, or if you watch patiently, a non-shimano reel may be commonly seen in the hands of a misguidedd angler waiting in line at the returns counter hoping they will take back his worthless non-shimano reel in hopes of purchasing an actual Shimano reel.

BPS sales
Here's the deal: BPS will ALWAYS match the online sale price, but you usually have to ask, the products are often NOT marked down and are NOT flagged in their inventory management program. So, the salesman has to go online to verify the price and mark the item down for you. Secondly, "in store sales" are often NOT advertised. An example is Lucky Craft Pointers in selected colors, sometimes $6-$7.

Your favorite reel brand
The Symetre is considered the "best value" by many Shimano fans. The Stradic 2500FI was chosen by ICAST as "Best In Class". Shimano's motto is: Strong, smooth, silent and reliant. Although I have given reels away to friends over time, every Shimano reel I have ever owned is still in use and performs as well or better today than the first time out of the box. I fish Shimano, I recommend Shimano. When you join the Posse, this Bud's for you! http://unattributed.net/html/whiskey.html

U.S. Reel
I bought the original which sucked. Initially they were marketed by Ray Scott in conjunction with a super lightweight rod he designed. I bought the package and was very disappointed. Randall fishes the newer models and recommends them.

The baits are exactly the same, but marketed in different quantities, which makes them the same price, too!

Rod for deep water jigging
If you decide to jump up to G.Loomis, buy the IMX series. We recently had one in the Flea Market.

Joining two lines again.
fourbizz, Your have developed quite a following around here, and I applaud you for a fresh perspective on technical technique and applications. Like many, I find all your comments and tips on swimbaits fascinating, but this post introduces a knot I have never heard of and fits another piece into the puzzle. Thank you. -Kent
