  1. Welcome aboard! The general answer is a "baitfish" immitator. The challenge is often being able to reach the target or schooling fish. If casting distance is the issue, it's hard to beat a Rat-L-Trap, Pointer or Johnson Original Silver Minnow (spoon). Otherwise, spinnerbaits or Floating Rapala can be effective. 8-)

  3. Usually totally unexpected, on splashdown, but on occasion this happens with very shallow fish attacking minnows or bluegill. When they are "working" a spot, sometimes they will smack anything that "gets in their face!" 8-)
  4. Well Paul, I can attest to the fact that I've caught numerous bass, big and small, by "hitting them on the head". One of my favorite stories was when I first started using a baitcaster, throwing a Senko in thick grass. The moment the bait hit the water the bass struck! I put on a Bill Dance hookset that would stick a gator, deep! The only problem was, I hadn't clicked the reel over. My guide's eyes bugged out as he stared at my big ball of cotton candy. This is the worst backlash I have ever had and required more than a little surgery, a total re-do! 8-)
  5. Wow! So, how many 10 pound bass have you caught at the Lake of the Ozarks? I have heard guys talk about some pretty good numbers, but never size. From what I gather, the docks have become the primary target for most people. 8-)
  6. Ick! What are you doing with a green fish? :
  7. Too cool! Nice picture sequence and a fine bass to boot. 8-)

  23. If you simply follow the specs, the Rat-L-Trap is really designed to be fished a little shallower. At the Guntersville Roadtrip we were fishing these lures in 2' - 4' of water! The Fat Free Shad 14' -18'; DD22 11' - 18'. However, all three can be fished at a variety of depths. I think all three will work for you and they are relatively inexpensive. 8-)
