I recently purchashed the St. Croix Avid AC70MM for $110 at Sportsman's Warehouse. I think it would fit your needs VERY well. Clarification: This rod will work as an "all-purpose" rod for most crankbaits, but not for lures requiring a firm tip, .i.e., jigs and soft plastics 8-)

Hmm... I'm not sure which is a more important component of fishing tackle, high quality hooks or line, but one is THE most important and the other is a close second! 8-)

I am mostly a striper fisherman! The Shimano Stradic 4000 is what my partner bought for clients he guides. The line capacity is perfect and the reel is strong, smooth, silent and reliant. I fish a baitcaster for striper. 8-)

Gear ratio, line retrieve, bearings and capacity. If you want a smaller frame and a lighter reel, the CI100DSV is the reel. It depends on a few things. The IMX series is what put G. Loomis on the map. These are outstanding rods that you probably have been very pleased with. It's not just sensitivity, but balance, topnotch components and craftsmanship. Over time, the IMX rods have proven to be great investments for everyone who owns them. If this is your first Loomis or if you have not already fished other high-end equipment, the IMX is the "better value". The next question is how important is $100 to you. My SUV eats up around $70 in gas everytime I fill-up. Unless my rods are lost or stolen, they will last a lifetime. The additional cost of the GLX doesn't seem that important to me. The IMX is a fine line of equipment. However, the GLX is definitely a step up, especially for specific finessee applications. I would strongly recommend the GLX series for jigs and soft plastics. The bottom-line, as Redlinerobert mentioned, is this: If you buy a GLX you will not regret it, but you probably won't be buying any more IMX series in the future, either. The analogy is something like the difference in dark chocolate compared to milk chocolate. If you have never tasted a fine dark chocolate, milk chocolate is delightful. Good luck! 8-)

Everyone has their favorites, there is no "best" line. My suggestions are simple and repetative (boring): Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test) Baitcasting gear: Ultra Soft #12 (19.5 lb test) 8-)

Welcome aboard! I live around Memphis, TN. Winter fishing in the ponds here has been brutal. You are probably just going to have to wait until things warm up a bit. If you decide to go now anyway, Rat-L-Traps seem to be the best option right now. Good luck! 8-)

It will suspend deeper with thinner diameter line. Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 is 11.9 lb test and works VERY well getting a variety of lures deeper. 8-)

I pay special attention to what some of our more successful members use, especially if they throw them consistantly and over time. Catt's Larew 7 1/2" Salty Worms comes to mind, a recent purchase for me. George Welcome always posts the lures that were working on his guided outings and I for one, appreciate that. I only see a few lures listed, but these are always mentioned: GYCB Senko (not knock-offs), Rat-L-Trap, Chug Bug and Swim Senko. Maybe I missed something else and another member will correct me. So, it seems to me that EVERYONE might want to include these particular lures in their tacklbag and learn how to use them! The Swim Senko doesn't seem to get a lot of play here, anywhere else I visit and not much in the magazines except for Gary Yamamoto's Inside-Line. Maybe we should keep it quiet and not mention the Fat Ika either... : 8-)
