Maximum Drag???
If you measure your weight with a scale, I doubt you'll want more than three or four pounds unless you are using a pool cue! Put weight into a plastic grocery bag and tie your line to the bag. GENTLY lift the bag with your rod tip. Your drag will begin to release and you will have an accurate measure of your setting. Even with a Heavy Power rod, four pounds is a lot of drag.

Trilene Sensation
Well, Berkley makes several terrible lines, but I think (original) Sensation was sooooooooo bad it was discontinued. You shouldn't use the original formula even if they PAY YOU $5.00 for 330 yards! I guess I don't really know anything about the "NEW", but I don't fish the "reformulated" Vanish either. To answer your other question, a copolymer fishing line is simply a combination of monofilament fibers. "co" is more than one. If you are interested in a scientific explanation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copolymer

Kistler rods
Huh? Take THE reel you plan to use to the retailer and MAKE SURE it fits perfectly. If you order online, you will need to CAREFULLY examine the match-up with the reel. This has been a problem for some. I don't know anything about "Smart Touch" reel seats, but I thought Dan said Kistler was updating with Fuji on their new production models? Are stainless steel guides a good thing? Well, at least you get the magic hook hanger!

Did any one see this?
YUP, Usually means snow is coming. I have seen this phenomena on many occasions, but here in Tennessee it rarely (never) means snow!

Gan Craft Bacra 250
I have no idea how effective the lure is, but that's a pretty hefty premium to DD22s. You just never know what makes one lure superior to another until you fish them or know something about their reputation. I know nothing!

weather.com fishing charts
Well, I seem to catch my bigest fish between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. In shallow water, most people find low light (early morning and late afternoon) to be prime. So, early, late and in the middle! 8-)

cumara vs st croix lt vs g blanks
I don't have the rod you are interested in, but I recently purchased the Legend Elite EC70MHF. I have four St. Croix (two Avids and two Legend Elite) and two G.Loomis GLX. So, this is my comparison verses G.Loomis: Design, engineering, components & workmanship: Equal Weight & balance: G.Loomis "feels" lighter Power: St. Croix MHF = G.Loomis H/F and are generally stiffer at every rating. Action: Technically the same, but tip firmness (or softness) varies among all models Warranty: Comparable Overall impression: I prefer G.Loomis, but St. Croix is a much better "value". I don't think the Legend Elite is on par with the GLX, but it's every bit IMX grade or marginally better. The Avid series is not IMX, but still very sensitive. The bottomline is, I bought the Legend Elite for $204 delivered (on sale at Reed's), a comparable GLX is $365. Note: Both companies design and build a proprietary blank. Both companies strive to be "The Best" not just "as good" as the competition.

New to fishing
Welcome aboard! The best thing you could do would be to fish with a guide for a day. You would move up the learning curve quite a lot with just some hands-on guidance. With just a little help you'll be on your way. They say, fishing in Florida is a little better than "okay". There is a "Beginners" section in "Fishing Articles" at the top of the page. This thread might be helpful, too: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1182371999 8-)

Reel Size decisions
It's not the line, it's the rod (I fish #4 on a G. Loomis PR844S). If the rod feels better with a smaller reel, that's the answer. Specifically, I fish 2500 series for the most part, but on a St. Croix Avid AS66MLF I fish a 1000 series.

Re: small pond fishing
Welcome aboard! This time of year, the cold weather and water makes fishing VERY challenging. I would recommend a jig and pork (Uncle Josh) trailer fished slow. Still, fishing right now can be tough in your neck of the woods. Good luck! p.s. This thread is running here on page 1: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1195614701

to the bait monkey
I'm glade that works for you, but a lot of guys buy stuff that just doesn't get used. As an example, I seem to have a fettish for jerkbaits: Lucky Craft Pointers, Rapala Husky Jerks & X-Rap and Smithwick Rogues. I "might" have fished four, but the rest need a bath!
