  1. Hey Keith, I guess I'm relating mostly to pond fishing. One of my ponds gets covered up completely around the bank in the summertime, but there are always little open pockets. One afternoon I brought out the heavy rig and big jig. Almost EVERY pocket held a big bass. Drop the jig, lift the bass...Yep, they were (mostly) big, a couple HUGE! But...that's all there was to it. I guess it was fun once, but just not something I wanted to continue doing. However, your point is well taken. On big water, especially on an otherwise slow day, I can see where this technique could be fun. There is NO argument that flipping can be a BIG fish technique.
  2. Well, it makes for a good story, anyhow. BTW, Great pic. I love them brown fish! 8-)
  3. Great post. Congratulations! 8-)
  4. The bottomline is "flipping" has very little (nothing) to do with fighting a fish. The technique is designed to pull a bass out of cover and get it in the boat, PRONTO! Although this is a VERY productive technique, as a recreational fisherman, I don't care a thing about it.
  5. Posts from fishermen on this and other Forums. As a specific example, Raul has two Kistler rods with reel seats that DO NOT match up with most of his (high end) reels. As it turns out this is a CHRONIC problem that Kistler is aware of. I'm told they are now using Fuji reel seats, but knowing the problem they still shipped the older (defective) models. Knowing you have a problem and continuing to pass them on to unsuspecting retail customers is unethical. p.s. Although I am a BIG fan of St. Croix rods, I have consistantly criticized the introduction of the Triumph (which I have never owned). This line of rods, at least initially, was distributed without adequate quality control in place. Some fishermen (The_Muddy_Man) have purchased rods without problems and highly recommend them at their pricing point. The FACT that MANY of the Triumphs were shoddy reflects poorly on St. Croix's otherwise fine reputation. I consider it an embarassment for the company that this line of equipment bears their name.
  6. Welcome aboard!
  7. Sometimes I don't fish on Tuesday... :
  8. I have NEVER seen this complaint, but if that were EVER the case, the rods will be replaced at NO CHARGE.
  9. Ain't that the truth! Many (most?) modern hooks cannot be sharpened without destroying the physical intergrity of the hook.
  10. The right thing to do would be to talk with the retailer. I suspect they would rather he keep the reel than going through the exchange process, but I do see your point and agree.
  11. I'm confused. The AC70MM is for most treble hook lures. The AC68MXF will be good for soft plastics and especially jigs. The AC66MF is what I recommend for jerkbaits, buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. Since I fish soft plastics on spinning tackle, the AS66MF is what I would use for those applications.
  12. Ideally, you want a rod with Moderate Action or a soft tip to fish crankbaits (all treble hooks). So, the Premier MIGHT be the better choice. However, for jigs and spinnerbaits the Fenwick is probably the ticket. You will have to play around with them and choose.
  13. You will tend to fish them slower and when you get bit you can crank a 1/2 ton truck out of a ditch!
  14. It's a perfect reel for crankbaits and jigs. For spinnerbaits, maybe (slow-roll, not burning).
  15. Well, that's a great $ value, but 5.0:1 gear ratio is fairly technique specific. I have two CTE200GT which are 5.0:1 which I use on a deep cranking rod and a jig rig. However, if you plan to use the reel for "general purposes" I think you will find it cumbersome. The IPT is 21" which is very slow.
  16. Edit your post, the fourth listing is duplicated. Mabe AC70MF or AC70HF?
  17. Seems to me, "The harder you work, the luckier you get!" 8-)
  18. Jewlery and/ or perfume. Something personal. NOTHING practical unless you buy her a new car! 8-)
  19. ;D ;D ;D ;D DUDE! ;D ;D ;D ;D Go buy a lottery ticket! Congratulations! 8-)
  20. Wait a minute... Commercials every three minutes, public subsidies for stadiums and the infrastructure to support them, outrageous ticket prices plus "season ticket fees", $20 parking, $8 beer, $4.50 for a 'dog and now I gotta pay more just to watch one game on TV? Man, I loves me sum feetball, but GEEZ, this is ridiculous! :-X
  21. Well done! I hope you will follow up down the road when the reels are "broken in". I'm interested in how the reels hold up over time.
  22. She never did drop the dvd... :
  23. No. It's because some of us had TERRIBLE experience with the original formula Vanish.
  24. If you want to stick with G. Loomis, GLX SJR843S. I fish a St. Croix Legend Elite ES70MF/ Stella 2500FB and Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6.
