ABSOLUTELY! How cool is that? 8-)

Texas Chokes Again.
Could not disagree more. This is EXACTLY why college sports are so much fun. We have too many teams, conferences and divisions to have a so called "Play-Off" tournament. Bowl match-ups decide rankings and we can spend the rest of the year arguing about who "should-have-been!" The bowl system works PERFECTLY for me.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. Missouri Tigers
Hey KU! Congrats on the ticket. I hope you get to see "The Game Of The Century!" Good luck to your Jayhawks, I hope they make you proud! 8-)

LSU FALLS!!!
Okay boys, This HUGE loss makes tomorrow night's game just that more important. The winner of the KU vs. MU game probably plays for the Natinal Championship! West Virgina/ Missouri? Anything is possible in this crazy year. There has NEVER been anytghing like this! Good luck, I think everyone needs it to win a game against ANYONE.

Favorite Crankbait Rod?
Well, for an "all purpose" treble hook rod, I think the St. Croix Avid AC66MF and AC70MM fit the bill. The AC66MF has a soft tip and is the perfect rod for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and jerkbaits. The AC 70MM is more for "general" crankbaits. For heavy or deep diving baits, the Lamiglas SR705R is the ticket, but I consider this a VERY techique specific rod. Not to be confusing, if you want a specific suggestion: St. Croix AC66MF.

Live mice: the ultimate live bait??
Laws vary from state to state and I'm not sure where the lines are drawn, but regardless of "The Law", fishing with a kitten is animal abuse. >

Line??
Instead of #20 Hybrid, I would suggest nothing more than #15. #20 Yo-Zuri is too thick for casting and CANNOT be broken, you will have to cut the line if you hang-up and cannot retrieve your lure.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. Missouri Tigers
It has been a long time since either of these universities were playing BIGTIME college football. Tomorrow night's match-up has the "Game of the Century" potential. Kansas has been designated "home team", but playing at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City is really neutral turf. I hope the game lives up to the billing. Good luck to both teams!

40% off most St. Croix @ Reedssports....
All, As an FYI for those that may purchase additional rods during this sale: I took a very close look at the rod I received and noticed many scratches and locations where the paint has flaked off. This damage appears to be cosmetic only and should not affect the use of the rod. The only problem is, I wanted to be the one to put the first big scratch on my $150.00 dollar rod.... Not sure what I am going to do. > Return the rod for refund or replacement. My dealings with Reed's have been perfect in every way. I am sure they will take care of you. On top of that, you have St. Croix as a back-up. Both companies I believe will live up to their reputations for "100% Customer Satisfaction".

Irritating and Probably Illegal Sales Practice
Just to clarify my beef: The kids made it there first. Target had "ZERO" of whatever they were trying to buy. They were not "OUT", Target did not have the item that was advertised. Of course, this one just one of hundreds of "specials', but it was the only item they got up early to buy. BTW, No "raincheck" was offered or available at either store.

Irritating and Probably Illegal Sales Practice
So, retailers advertise "Door Buster" sales with limited stock. We all know that's a come-on, but as long as they have "some" I can live with that hype. On the otherhand, my daughter and her boyfriend had something they REALLY wanted to get for a Christmas present that was advertised at Target. Both kids got up at 4:00 AM for a 6:00 AM opening and were among the first in line at two seperate stores. NEITHER Target had the item for sale...none, nada, nothing! That's just not right.

Live mice: the ultimate live bait??
Well, I'm not squemish, but I'm not too fond of crickets or leeches and would NOT want to handle a mouse, period. I wouldn't fish a real mouse even if I were guaranteed to catch a bass!

40% off most St. Croix @ Reedssports....
AC66MF This rod is Fast Action, but has a soft tip. I recommend the rod for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, topwater and jerkbaits. It is one of my favorites. AC70MM Medium Power/ Moderate Action. This is the perfect rod for most crankbaits (not big, deep divers however). This rod can also be used to fish other "treble hook" lures.

Live VS Artificial... State, Local, Club, Re
Back on topic... The statutes generally read "Any fish that is legally taken can be submitted for certification." That is also the position of the IGFA. I'm good with that, I think the rules should stand as they are.

Fluorocarbon Lines
Yo-Zuri Hybrid is a bonded (not coated) fluorocarbon/ nylon blend. It is much stronger and more manageable than pure fluoro, but it does not match the light refraction index of water as closely as pure fluorocarbon. Hybrid is not invisible, but it's close! I'm not convinced the color of the Yo-Zuri Hybrid line is all that important, I fish clear, green and smoke. That said, green tends to match up best with most water, but if your water is stained, smoke is less visible. Clear kinda works in all water, it's pretty stealthy, especially in the thinner diameters. On spinning tackle, #4 (8.5 lb test) Hybrid is a line that works for me in gin clear water.

Winter-time bass in a small river
Welcome aboard! The smallmouth bass may be inactive in NY, the water is probably just too cold. Fish don't actually hibernate, but the suspend in a very similar state. This would be a very challenging time for you up there. Maybe there are other alternatives: trout?

Live VS Artificial... State, Local, Club, Re
I can understand why it would seem like that to people who never use live bait, but that is not the case. As Rick Clunn has often stated, "Catching fish is easy, it's finding them that's the challenge." Bass, or any fish for that matter, may be more interested in live bait than an artificial, but that doesn't mean they will strike. As a matter-of-fact, bass is a neutral or inactive state are sometimes LESS likely to chase a minnow than stike an artificial lure as they might in a defensive move or when protecting territory. Being successful, if you define that by chatching BIG bass, is still a matter of locating the fish and presentation. The bite is the "event", but even then landing the fish can still be an adventure. The mental picture of catching bluegill on worms is an entirely different activity.

Fall pond fishing....how is it?
Got off work early yesterday and hit a pond around 2:30. Stormy all day with a cold front bearing down. Started with Mattlures Baby Bass and fished it for nearly an hour, half way around the pond without so much as a swipe. Rather than continuing around the pond, I switched baits and retraced the bank I had already fished. I decided to go with a 1/2 oz Micro Munch Tackle jig, GYCB Flappin' Hog trailer. Ended up fishing until sunset, around 5:00. Six bites, six hook-ups and five landed! Nothing big, but 3-4 lbs of fun! In "tournament terms" that would be a 15-20 lb bag, all caught on a jig in less than two hours! So, you might want to give the jig a try. 8-)

a pretty good day that coulda been a LOT better
Fine fish, nice pic, great post! 8-)

Winter-time bass in a small river
Welcome aboard! I would think those lures would continue to work through the winter, but if not, the classic hair jig would be my prime choice.
