  1. Well, I agree! However, I fish the 6" version, the 5" Senko catches too many fish. For the past few years the Fat Ika has actually produced bigger bass for me. Same presentation, just a different profile. (Largemouth and smallmouth in still water). You might want to give it a try. : Some other soft plastics that I have just started fishing this year with good results are the Kreature, Swimming Senko and Mattlures Baby Bass. The GYCB Kut-Tail has always been a producer, weighted in deeper water and the Micro Munch El Gordo tube is another soft plastic that I highly recommend.
  2. Fat Ika for both green and brown bass.
  3. I would add that MegaStrike is also a great lubricant which might come into play with some lures, especially swimbaits.
  4. Good question. I don't kmow the exact answer, but the general response is: St. Croix will make it right.
  5. Bait Monkey say, "Hmm...Another...dat good."
  6. Welcome aboard! I fish below Pickwick Dam, but it's too early for smallmouth, the water is still too hot. Although I'll probably be after 'em in a couple of weeks, it will be October before things really pick up. You might want to target stripers. They have been slow, but my partner has been picking up a few. Skipjack are readily available, so bait is no problem. Size has not been great, but I'm sure you guys will get a kick out of a few 6-8 and maybe a 10-12 lb rockfish. Good luck!
  7. Locally we had a rash of thieves targeting copper tubing on airconditioning units at several churches in the Memphis area. $5000- $10,000 damage (loss) for maybe $15-$20 salvage value = maybe a pipe or two of crack or meth. It's all (or mostly) about drugs.
  8. C'mon...just playing. EVERYONE has a favorite brand, there is no "best" just "favorites". The chances are pretty good that my "reel recommendation" will be Shimano. Line? Probably Yo-Zuri. Rods? G.Loomis, St. Croix, Lamiglas and Fenwick Techna AV. That doesn't mean I hate all the other brands, I just recommend what I use. And BTW, I am neither sponsored nor affiliated in ANY WAY with any fishing related company.
  9. She's a keeper!
  10. I also cast with two hands. There is some adjustment in hand position, but my left hand on baitcasting equipment and my right hand on spinning gear is always involved.
  11. Welcome aboard! Take a look at this thread, there are several recommendations including one from me: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1188819028/10 Here is another: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1188270596 If you scroll back through this section you can find many more threads discussing specific combinations. Key words are "Shimano", "G.Loomis" and "St. Croix". :
  12. I guess I got lucky. I was born with two hands and learned how to use them both. Holding the rod in one's left hand acts as a stationary fulcrum when fighting a fish on baitcasting equipment. Playing the fish and winching it in is more delicate than holding a rod. That's where right-handed retrieve comes into play. With spinning tackle the reel merely retrieves and stores line, the fight is with the rod. These are fundamental differences in the equipment.
  13. Part of it is old vs. new technology. The old glass rods were thick and heavy or thin and VERY limp. Treaditionally, for bass fishing these were used for deep crankbaits or in some cases, because a lot of rods were cheap and almost indestructable. "Old glass" is still around. New glass and glass hybrids are another story: Basically the same size as a graphite rod and comparable weight. I fish a Lamiglas SR705R designed by Skeet Reese. Although specifically developed as a crankin' stick, I use it for all big treble hook lures (LC Pointer 128, full size Spooks, Sammy and DD22). I consider this rod and other glass rods technique specific, but if these are the type of lures you throw a lot, it's great to have the perfect equipment for them.
  14. The line floats, but has no impact on sinking baits. I fish weightless worms and jigs...well, actually I fish everything on this line! I think you will like the Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft, I do! 8-)
  15. Congratulations! Regarding the the gut hook: This is going to happen occasionally, but you need to remove hooks and especially lures. Needle-nose pliers are an important tool. Selective harvest is also an important aspect of fishing even for those of us that are almost strictly C & R. Good story to go along with a great catch.
  16. Here's another: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1143177139
  17. It's just like holding (another term for kitty cat) in the palm of your hand. 8-)

  19. I have a lot of "favorite teams". Chicago is one of them.
  20. Do you have someone to replace THE WORST quarterback to EVER play in an NFL Championship game? It looks like I lost $100. I bet Rex Grossman wouldn't make roster this year!
  21. You have missed an hour, but there's another hour to go. Best racin' show I have ever seen and I NEVER liked the guy!

    Welcome aboard!
  23. Colts dominate: Indianapolis 42 Saints 17
  24. Oxford, MS (Ole Miss).
