i need you to tell me what reel to buy
Take the rod to the store with you. Mount the Core 50MG7 on the Steez and you will have your answer. Steez on Steez? I just noticed this in the Flea Market: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1266014777 8-)

Guntersville guides
I talked with both the guide and several of his clients on two different days during the Roadtrip two years ago. I was very impressed by his candour and his clients compliments under difficult conditions. 8-)

spincast reels
My partner has some Omega for his guide service which I occasionally use to catch bait. They are nice reels and have held up well for more than three years without any service whats-so-ever. 8-)

Does anybody else use bps hooks
No. BPS hooks are made from low quality wire and break easily; are not particularly sharp and do not hold a point; are inconsistent due to a lack of quality control and more generally, an inferior hook. :-X p.s. Fishing gear is on sale all the time, save money on something else. "Expensive" hooks don't account for much in the scheme of things. Gamakatsu, Owner, XPoint, Mustad and VMC are all great hooks.

Texas Rig / Shakey Head / Drop Shot Combo?
I fish a St. Croix Legend Elite, ES70MF/ Stella 2500FB/ Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6. Another rig I would recommend is the G.Loomis SJR843S matched with a Stradic 2500CI4. 8-)

rick clunn
That's fine for Rick Clunn, but not for everyone. I have used this golf analogy before: Tiger Woods would beat anyone outside the professional tour playing with a 7 iron only! That doesn't make it the right choice for most golfers. 8-)

Citica Steal
If you want a split grip, look at the Dolbyns. I have a Champion 683C which would match up perfectly with your Citica. 8-)

Fishing Rods with Broken (& Repaired) Tips??
Hmm... http://www.flatlandflyfishers.com/Flyfishing101/rodaction.html I think breaking a tip just makes the rod "stiff". There's not much action in a broomstick. :

Is St. Croix or GLoomis worth the extra $?
My advice is to save some money and buy a Loomis from our Flea Market. This week I purchased an IMX MBR844C for $185 delivered. This is a rod you will fish the rest of your life. 8-)

atypical winter effect fishing?
There is absolutely no impact. Killing 75% of the threadfin on the Tennessee river doesn't mean a thing to the other species or the environment in general. It only effects fishing right now! For predator fish, like smallmouth, it's a feast. 8-)

Abrasion Resistance of Hybred
Hmm... I have been fishing Hybrid through the Tennessee River's "Rocks From Hell" for more than 5 years. I think it holds up very well. 8-)

Need help with weedy places
Swimming Senko or GYCB Kreature: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1180909581 New for me this year, Rage Tail Smokin' Rooster which I think has the potential to become my #1 soft plastic! The Space Monkey is also in the running. 8-)
-
Which techniques are most important?
Well, until you feel like you have mastered soft plastics, I would recommend nothing else! Jigs may catch bigger fish on average, but soft plastics probably account for more bass than all other lure classes combined. My top four suggestions are: (1) 5" Senko, (2) Fat Ika, (3) Mizmo tube and (4) Gene Larew 7 1/2" Salty Ring Worm. 8-)

Rod / Reel Variance
Technique specific rods are for "enthusiasts". Almost all your fishing can be done with just one rod. Beyond that, you only "need" three rods: Spinning: 6 1/2' or 7', M or MH, Fast Action (soft plastics and light lures) Baitcasting: MH or H, Fast Action (jigs, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and all single hooks) Baitcasting: MH, Moderate Action (all treble hook lures) However, for me, I like to have a technique specific rig for every application. I'm a "collector". Playing with gear is almost as much fun as the fishing! 8-)

UPDATE* E7 let down
The higher priced Shimanos have higher quality components, are lighter in some cases, may be a bit smoother and in the right hands, cast further. My point is that "fishing" both the Curado and CI4 is comparable to "fishing" the higher priced reels. In my hands the Curado 200E7 is not noticeably different than the Core 100. The Core 50 is probably my favorite baitcaster, but the CH50MG feels and works well for me, too! I probably fish a Calais 200 more than any other baitcaster, but I like the CTE200GT just as well. As an enthusiast, I'm very happy with a number of Shimanio reels, including my most favorite, the Stella 2500FD. As a fisherman, I could be completely satisfied with the Curado as my baitcaster and the Stradic CI4 as my spinning reel. 8-)
