Rat-L-trap over the grass flats off the creeks---do what?
X2 Buy two of these! Other colors and brands may work just fine, but this one is the BOMB! Chuck and wind, usually as fast as you can. The lure creates all the action, you don't "work" a trap. 8-)

How much does your "live" bait cost now?
Big bass minnows: $13/ lb (4-5 dozen) Medium (for sauger): $7.75/ lb (about 6 dozen) Small (crappie): $7.75/ lb (8-9 dozen) We figure we need about a dozen per man/per hour on the Tennessee River. 8-)

What is the largest recorded bag of SMB
I know about the error in the article, but I cannot edit an article like we can do with a post. Roger is correct, the AL state record was caught below Wheeler, not Guntersville. -Kent :-[

Left handed bait casters
The bottom line is to experiment with the handle on the "wrong" side and see how you like it! Just kidding...Use what you like, it's not going to make a lot of difference. I fish baitcasters with a right hand retrieve, spinning tackle with a left hand retrieve. They both seem "natural" to me. 8-)

power of stars
As Catt said, after awhile you'll get to know some of the guys a little better which will help sifting through all the conflicting opinions. For the most part, advice is well intended and we do have many VERY seasoned anglers. A few pros, several guides, tournament and big bass fishermen all contribute to the mix. From beginners to accomplished fishermen, there is always something here for everyone. 8-)

Big 12 Tonight: Nebraska at Missouri

Left handed bait casters
George Welcome: Let's get technical, as there are in fact reasons, not just some lame holdover from days past that put the handles where they are. What will move the fish during retrieval is placed to the strong hand! A baitcast is designed to be used as a winch, so it is the reel that retrieves the fish. Hence if you are right handed the handle is in your right hand. A spinning reel is designed to pick up unloaded or loose line, not retrieve the fish. Hence it is the rod that does the retrieval, so it is the rod that is in your strong hand. If you are right handed then the pole goes to the right hand. ______________________ This comes up every month and everyone seems to enjoy the topic. Here's a thread from 2007: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1187794805 We'll let this one run 4 pages, too! -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator 8-)

New Plan For 2009-2010
No. I caught a couple two weeks ago using a 3/4 oz football head and Baby Paca Craw. The the following weekend, -0- with a variety of hair jigs and a smaller presentation. This weekend I'm going with a white spinnerbait (lumiflex skirt) and GYCB Hula Grub (301) to start with. 8-)

How 'Bout Them Broncos!
Other than Champ Bailey and perhaps a couple of personal favorites, we don't know anything about these guys. From what I have heard and read, 6-10 was the talkl: Both Oakland and KC twice, then "get lucky" for two more! 8-)

New Plan For 2009-2010
I know some guides would take issue with some of that. "Big" is a subjective term. I know Steve Hacker, for example, has put his clients on hundreds of 5+ smallies fishing lures. However, over more than a decade of full-time guiding, his clients have only boated one 8 and he has none. (Note: This statement is based on an old interview and may not be 100% accurate today). Anyhow, I'm still going to try some other tricks, but for those that are interested in their best shot at a trophy on the Tennessee River, big minnows are the ticket. 8-)

fishing reports
Gentlemen: When you have a suggestion regarding "policy", please send your comments directly to me or one of the other Mods. I assure you, we always discuss member suggestions which are sometimes implemented. However, this issue has been decided as noted in Glenn's thread and my post a few lines up. Further discussion on the boards is unwarranted. This thread is closed. -Kent a.k.a. roadwarrior Global Moderator

What is the largest recorded bag of SMB
In January, 2005 I caught fifteen smallmouth, eight over 5 lbs, the largest just over 7 lbs. The following Saturday, the two in my avatar were caught. Here are some pictures of those fish: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/smallmouth_record.html ;D ;D ;D
