My dealer offered them with option to upgrade. the "base" package was in no way free though... They were absorbed into my loan one way or another

20/30lb Test Braid Vs 40/50/65lb Test
Even if 20lb braided main line actually did catch more fish, I wouldn't use it (on a baitcaster)... That light pound braid digs into itself WAY too much and ends up being more trouble than it's worth most of the time.

Any plans of another Roadtrip
Sounds like a good time! It would have to be a for sure thing with decent attendance for me to pull my boat out of state from San Antonio though ?. Half of most of these long trips is just getting out of Texas!

Wife Couldn't Understand
My wife would ask those types of questions as well, and I've actually had the same conversation... It wasn't to plead my case for a purchase though, she was just really curious and didn't understand. I still don't think that she understands... but whatever.

Those painful pet peeves!
forgetting things in the truck after I launch the boat, having to re-dock and walk back... It's ? always ? something ? It's even worse if you started late on a busy day and had to park what feels like a quarter mile away...

Warranty - favorable or fiendish experiences
Only warranty-ish service I've ever used is G.Loomis's Xpedite service... There's a small fee based on the original price of the rod, but $100 for an NRX replacement is not that bad. My favorite thing about it is that it could be 4 years after original purchase and they will still replace, no questions asked. Actually JUST had one replaced that I had originally bought second hand (it was the older green NRXs), and for $100 I got a new NRX+, so not only do you not have to be original owner, but if the model you are replacing is discontinued, you will get the latest one. Also, it's a no questions asked process. 5 stars from me.

Bass Fishing from SoCal -> Texas (Austin)
lol, yeah... I was actually just about to recommend that. You can definately make it an "on-the-way" destination if you give it some effort. I'd bring my a-rig

What have you learned this fishing season?
I learned that when I "just go fishing", I catch more, and better quality. When I start getting all technical, I get in my own way a lot by over thinking things.

You have 4 days for a guys fishing trip…WHERE and WHEN would you go?!
Rayburn when the water is rising can be a hell of a time... unfortunately, that can mean that you're dodging storms too... Other than that, I really enjoy using those longer trips to fish new water. A couple of days to figure them out and a couple of days to catch them. Good thing that lakes like Rayburn can offer enough "new water" to fill quite a few trips!

Bass Fishing from SoCal -> Texas (Austin)
Bring the bigger rod... I'm assuming that since you are driving and only bringing one combo, that you will likely be fishing from the shore? If you are staying in the downtown Austin area, Lady Bird Lake will be your best bet, free access, and there are quite a few areas to fish from the shore there. It would be hard for me to recommend anywhere else to fish from land in the Austin area.

How do you fish a pond that is almost entirely filled with grass?
searching for fish like that can be like searching for a needle in a hay stack... I know that on bigger lakes, you can have a mile stretch of grass, but only 50yds of it is worth a dang, but once you find 'em, it's often lights out... You may just have to struggle through a lot of that unproductive grass to find the sweet spot. Keep at it and you'll find it.

Humminbird MEGA Live
Cancelled my pre-order two days before that video dropped because I thought to myself "it can't the THAT much better, if at all, than my current Livescope without a black box... And it may be a good idea to let all the kinks get worked out with a years worth of updates as well" Glad I made that choice. And it felt pretty good seeing that refund hit my bank account today within an hour or so after I saw that video lol

weeks of rain, now what?
Some of the best fishing I've ever had has came with extremely high water (5-10ft above pool in some cases). I'm talking trips that we still BS about years later... And during most of those trips, the mayhem started SHALLOW when the sun became covered by clouds, almost immediately. It was a VERY noticeable difference not only in numbers, but quantity as well, with the water steady or still rising a bit, not dropping... 1-2fow. Couldn't catch a bite that shallow until that sun started to hide. Doesn't mean quality can't be caught all over the place during these conditions, but this has been my experience more often than not. food for thought.
