  1. I prefer 6# mono, but I use 8# mono for these rigs in Canada and same for jerkbaits in Canada. My brother uses 6# Stren magnathin for everything. Neither of us have lost a bait to a walleye or smallie on these rigs. Just Northerns seems to slash through. I have had so much luck with this, that I’ve downsized all my line options to smaller test than I used to use.
  2. Agreed. My current boat is a 99 Pantera (19’1”). Rides good, but I’m not fond of the layout. I fish alone mostly and think i could get by with a Margay or Bobcat (17’7”). But the Lund has more storage. I would assume its rougher riding than the glass boat. I would prefer a Lund Pro V Bass, but they are out of my price range. so is a Vexus, or Xpress.
  3. I have a 1999 BassCat Pantera. I’m considering downsizing or making a lateral move. Looking the BassCat Margay/Bobcat, Lund Renegade 1875/1975. Wondering how a tin boat 1-2 feet longer than the glass boat will ride/fish in comparison. Also considering just repowering the old boat and continuing on. I am just not a fan of the layout and lack of storage in the stern of the 1999 boat.

  5. I had a KastKing Reel that I was having issues with anything much over 1/4 oz. I put it on a TFO ML 7’ rod. I’m going to use it for 1/16 to 1/4 oz tubes, shakey heads, etc…. 8 lb line. I think it will be the ticket. For your set up, I’d say Med/Fast rod, 7.5:1 or so reel, and 8-10 lb line.
  6. Its a 20 year old minn kota
  7. I want to upgrade my trolling motor to something with spot lock. I am ok with new or used but not looking to buy the most expensive motor on the market. Anyone have any suggestions based on their experiences? 1999 BassCat Pantera with Merc 150
  8. Good answer. Its akin to traditional bowhunting. Purists say a trad bow has no sights. Realists say they can have traditional sights that would have been on a 1950s bow or no sights. Progressives would say heck yes they can have any sight you want and add wheels too. What most think of finesse today is small baits on small, light weight heads. That being said, bigger baits can be fished with finesse. Its all in your definition of it. I like to think of Ned rigs (small baits on light heads), finesse baits (slightly larger worms, small jigs, etc..), and all others. But thats just so I can game plan in my own head. Doesn’t mean everyone has to agree with my definition.
  9. Denali AttaX Impulse BPS Fish Eagle St Croix Mojo Bass or Mojo Bass glass Hammer Rods Lots of good ones out there for this. I've used an Impulse rod for jerkbait fishing in Canada for 4 years and its just about perfect. I also have a Denali I like. Its kind of in between M and ML.
  10. Long story. But mainly, the mechanics around here are having a hard time finding parts for 2 stroke motors. Merc isn’t supporting older 2 strokes like they were. And you can either pour oil or change it. I’d like to change it.
  11. I have a 99 BassCat with a 2000 150 Optimax. Completely rebuilt in 2019. Runs great. I’ve been considering a used 4 stroke as a trade. What’s a good price for a used Mercury 150 4 stroke. Looked at a 2021 Merc 150L for $13,500. Also, anything I need to look out for?
  12. Tried that. Wouldn’t go into the manual override mode. I’ve read it front to back. No luck. I’ll call NOCO next.
  13. Not the issue. In fact, the error light did come on, but I had it connected correctly. However, I decided to change it just to make sure and it he light still came on. So no matter how it was connected, it said to reverse the polarity. I am going to reconnect it now that the battery is charged to see if the problem was that the battery was just too low. And to top it all off, by down trim relay went out this afternoon.
  14. I have a NOCO GB40 jump starter. I’ve used it on cars, trucks, lawnmowers, quads, etc… but I needed it for my boat yesterday and it wouldn’t recognize that it was even hooked to a battery. Starter battery is 1000 CA and 800 CCA. My jump starter is rated at 12V, 1000 amp. Anyone that has used one, please let me know what you would recommend. I’d like to have one in my boat that actually works.
  15. I’ve used a round head Arkie and Eagle Claw jigheads way more than the mushroom head. Lately, I’ve been using BPS Crappie Maxx pro round jigheads. Can’t imagine the mushroom head would be that much better.
  16. Thanks. Thanks for the photo. I did a google search for this and never had a decent photo show up. This is how I’ve been rigging them. I sharpen the hooks before hand but I still feel like they don’t get the hookups other versions get.
  17. I understand the basics of rigging it texas weedless. Its not that simple (with the ones I have anyway). I also have Owner Bullet head jigs. The hook point and the head line up. On the slider head, the bend in the hook doesn't lend itself to lining up like a traditional offset hook.
  18. I have a few packs of these heads but can't seem to get them rigged right. Anyone have any photos of one rigged? Just want to see what it should look like. They don't seem to be bent for a true weedless presentation.
  19. Storm makes a pre-rigged goby swimbait. Caught several smallmouth and a few walleye on one in Ontario. Its a good color with good action. I'd fish a goby bait just to see what happens.
  20. Thanks for all the comments. I’m very familiar with all the differences in the mod V boats vs the Deep V. I hear the Xpress Hyperlift runs well in rough water. I don’t get much of that here, but I do get it on occasion when we go to Canada. My preference is a Pro V Bass. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with a Vexus in rough water. Seems like it would be like most other mod Vs.
  21. I am considering moving from fiberglass to aluminum. I see reviews all over the internet about hull thickness. Most say its got to be .125 like Xpress, Avid, GatorTrax. However, the Lund Pro V bass gets great reviews across the board. Its .100 hull thickness with .080 freeboard thickness. So what gives? Is it different for a deep V vs a mod V? I’m looking for a boat that will handle semi rough water regularly and rough water occasionally. I hear most of the mod V aluminums don’t ride well in rough water. Specifically looking at Vexus and Lund Renegade in the Mod V world.
  22. I have only fished a lipless crank once and didn’t catch any fish. I need some learning. When, how, etc…
