What is this soft plastic and how do I use it?
The Yamamoto Fat Ika is kind of a poop bait with tentacles. Works good for punching along with all the advice already given.

That's why it's called "fishing", not "catching", I guess! 🤣

How to determine what and where the fish are relating to when fishing....
@Susky River Rat is spot on! One thing that has helped me get bites when nothing else works is bouncing a squarebill off wood. You're looking for a severe reaction bite. Of course you have to be in an area that has fish!

Of all the fish I hooked yesterday I only got my hands on less than half of them. Only 1 bass ate the frog the way you want them to. Switching to a compact frog and letting them eat it longer did not help. It was cloudy and dead calm. Sun and a breeze would have helped I think. That's my excuse and I'm stickin' with it!

Wacky hooking
I've only fished with wacky worms with the tubing for 3 days so limited data. I put some of the tubing on at 1 inch long and some at 3/8 inch long. The longer tubing works better at preserving the worm. All will get torn up eventually. I've also been using the Lake Fork Tackle Hyper Wackn' System rig and it works well. The 1 inch tubing works the best at preserving worms. The wacky hooks with the screw lock on the hook is the worst. They will tear up any worm just on 1 catch. No problem with hooking fish with any of these rigs.

One Lure Challenge
Went down a channel bank one day with a DT6. catching a few, but all bit within 2 turns of the reel handle. Switched to a wake bait and spanked 'em. I'm not just bringing one lure. Listen to the fish. If you want to master one lure this is a good idea, but otherwise, not me.

Wacky hooking
No. Didn't lose any fish or worms! Some worms got tore after a few catches but that is normal, I think.

Wacky hooking
Yesterday I went armed for the wacky war! I had 10 assorted stick worms with shrink wrap tubing. I use a wacky/neko hook on these. I also used a Lake Fork tackle hyper wack'n hook. Both of these setups worked very well as far as not tearing up the worm. Caught plenty of bass so gave them a good test. The Core Tackle wacky shot is a 1 worm/1 bass rig. It is a worm ripper and I'm not using them anymore. I still like the VMC crossover rings but still need to solve the problem of losing worms.

Wacky hooking
Thank you! I put shrink wrap tubing on some baits to try tomorrow. Also added some pieces of nail for when I think a faster fall is needed or if wind is up. I shrank them some with a heat gun and it didn't appear to hurt the worms.

Wacky hooking
@Ski No, but I will. Also gonna try shrink wrap tubing and run the hook thru that... Yes, fishing has been great. The wacky bite in the morning has been good. As the sun gets higher the wacky bite slows down and I can get 'em stroking a jig out deeper. I am blessed to have good lakes to fish!

Wacky hooking
@Ski Yes, I got 4 sizes and use the tightest ring I can get on the worm (senkos, dingers, ochos, trick worms, flick shakes).

Wacky hooking
The hooks with the screw lock thingy on them are the worst. One fish and the worm is so torn up it either comes off on the fight or needs replaced 'cause it's about to come off.
-
Wacky hooking
@Ski I'm running the hook thru the little hole in the ring, not thru the worm. Using the ring that fits tight on the worm and still losing worms. Even a bluegill can pull the worm out of the ring! Not losing them every time but seems still too much.

Wacky hooking
Yesterday I went through a bag of senkos in less than an hour on a wacky rig. I've used a wacky/neko hook run through the worm, the VMC crossover rings, the Core tackle wacky shot, and a Gamakatsu circle hook run through the worm. I'm not complaiing, it's a lot of fun, but it would be nice if I didn't have to put on a new worm after every fish. I bought some Lake Fork tackle Wackin' hooks but haven't tried them yet (tomorrow). I'm not having any problem catching fish, just hoping somebody can help me figure out a way to keep from losing so many worms or is this the norm and I just got to live with it! Thank you for your input!

Singing braid
A big bass, or a small one and a big wad of weeds, gets braid to sing. I wonder what causes that sound and does it damage the line?

A hole in the weeds about 6 ft across in 18 inches of water produced 3 good ones and 1 miss the first time I flogged it with the frog. Came back later and caught 3 more and missed 3 in that same hole! Had to go after that. Needed Tylenol bad. @Swamp Girl Yes, I think she plays in the National Bass League and was mentored by Dick Butkus the way she slammed that frog!

Should Have Listened to the Old Guy... do you?
I know several people with bling boats and trucks. Don't ask them about fishing, they only want to brag about how pretty their boat is. Those 4 skills are the basics. They would be lost in your canoe, they wouldn't get in it anyway 'cause it ain't metalflake!

Should Have Listened to the Old Guy... do you?
Most of those people who are infected with "boat bling syndrome" never took the time to learn how to fish. The closer they look like to the "pros" they see on TV the more fish they will catch, they think. It doesn't work that way.
