Id love to find some of these.you are correct though back then they put more quality in all the pistol grips .thats what they used most i think every decade length moved 6 inchs once you hit 6'6" its more about distance then they added long handles so you could push the bottom and your wrist became the fulcrum instead of your power.

A 5500c3 abu garcia will work for the SBR .the reel will outlast the rod and lots of trouble free fishing.they run about 130$ or you can look for a used one in good shape from about 40$ to $80 bucks .load it with some 15 big game and your all set

Btw lipless baits work when chipped, faded ,scratched .just like crankbaits the rougher they get the better they get.

Even though i keep most of my rods indoors.i have never had a problem with them freezing in 30 yrs...i will ask now though does long term sub freezing hurt anything,,i know the graphite and fiberglass can stand low temps ,im more concerned about the glue,threads and such in reely cold weather does it harm its chemical properties??? Any rod experts out here know about that kinda stuff?

Ok i know what you.mean now not the actual pistol grip handle but the build quaility of said cheap rods.id still one day like to get my HAND on a JDM pistol grip rod though.

Never heard of the word low standards on a fishing rod ,i have lightning rods.and falcons that are.pistol grips,same guides,graphite,threading on the longer ones only diff is a pistol grip, !!

Not trying to hijack the thread..but eatin right can make changes in your life bigtime case in point .i failed my DOT phsyical with a 10.3 a1c has to be 10 or less .i had to have it less or they would send it to MVA and i forfeit my CDL for a regular drivers license.i had 10 days before school started .i beat the net for anything to drop my a1c in 10 days .and i did it in 4 days with a a1c of 6.2 all i ate was sardines,oatmeal and black eyed beans,im a firm beliver in our fuel which is the RIGHT food can do miracles.

I beat mine without the docs ,8 yrs now getting bronchitus its from smoking i know but for 8 yrs i relied on antibiotics.and i must say it did help but as stated on the meds it also hurts your immune system later on , this is in fact though bronchitus is gone after 5 days just coughed at night not so bad i couldnt sleep as what happened.when i took meds .the last 8 yrs of getting it it has taken from 2 to 3 weeks to recover and get over it completly.and only 5 days with warm saltwater,honey and cinniman, so im a beleiver because of my history,,nothing against doctors at all they are here to help,but they also need patients to pay for there benz and house in the keys,

Throw the reel magic away it comprimises anything it touches it is a petroluem product.

I own more pistol grips then anything they work on my yak perfect,i also have short handle rods ,30yrds is my sweet spot i can put a superfluke anywhere with a pistol grip at any angle with my eyes closed .i have just about every brand and some that are 20 plus yrs old.modern day bassers look at my combos like whats that,,then they see me dissect a area with precision accuracy.

The point i was getting at with floro was the nature of floro and knots isnt good you can tie the best knot with floro on a jig and get hung up as soon as the line bends at the knot its comprimised cause it will kink .same as straight line.floro one little bend on a cast hitting a limb etc its comprimised

Big game or yo zuri is all you really need .braid has its place also thats the only thing i would use if i was looking for something differant then mono or copoly lines.

Floro has too many negatives for me,first is knot failure,second is a kink will ruin your whole day.just those 2 negatives make it so ill never use it.stretch is good knots not failing is my main priority.and it aint ever happened yet with mono.

So yesturday i bought 2 lews lazer z combos on sale reg price 69$ sale.price was $12.84 i was like ok what ever .took one with me today to try out no fish pond was muddy cold and had a dead beaver floating around.anyway that combo was pretty good reel palms well and the rod fits perfect.i was zinging jigs,rat l traps and t rigged ultravibe speed craws .i fished about 2 hrs and really tried to stress this reel out burning the lipless it never missed a beat.for a beater combo its perfect ,see what happens when i really test it in saltwater .in a few months.btw at 70$ i woulda never bought it but 12$ yup .

Warm saltwater does the same.thing and also takes care of stomach issues..i use it everyday and even though i still get bronchitus i whip it faster then using antobiotics ,,biotic free for 2 months no weezing at night no coughing my guts out .now to quit smoking thats my whole.problem
