Jitterbug
Old school favourite of many bass fisherman. Years ago I did well walking banks at night and casting the black 5/8 oz jitterbug.

Love New Truck Day ~
Congrats on the new truck A-Jay. I think you made a great choice. I especially like the V8. Plenty of power there when you need it.

Fly Line Weight
I have an old Heddon fiberglass fly rod my dad bought I think in the early to mid 1960s. On my rod the line weight is marked "H". A coworker is a fly rod guy, and has a newer rod. The line weight on his rod is marked as "6". I've made a bet with him. He claims that fly rods were marked with a letter for line weight well into the 1980s. I say he's wrong. I say the letter for line weight stopped by 1970, and changed to a number system. I really don't know a lot about fly rod fishing . For the fly fisherman here, what's the correct answer?

Gulp minnows for bass
At a sporting goods store I shop at, they had a large aquarium set up with a pump in the bottom. A guy from Berkley dumped in two bags of 2.5" Gulp minnows and turned the pump on. Probably the most realistic shad ball I'd ever seen. People that came in thought they were real fish. I'd like to try this bigger size also for LM bass.

Retirement Suggestions Please
The Missouri Ozark area can be a nice place, as long as you do some research on where to go. The fishing doesn't rival Texas or Louisiana, but can be good. I like Table Rock and Pomme Dr Tarre. Lake of the Ozarks is good too, but gets over run with the party crowd much of the summer.

Way off-topic. A cooking discussion?
I can cook some really good mashed potatoes, but I struggle with gravy. My wife usually makes it.

Way off-topic. A cooking discussion?
I like to cook also. Mostly standard stuff. Lately since its been cold I've been putting stuff in a crockpot before I leave in the morning. Roast, chicken, etc. I like it because you've got meat ready when you get home. Then, just fix some potatoes, vegetables etc. I still don't cook as well as my wife though.

I have a bait buying problem.
Don't worry. Many of us have this same problem...

Match the hatch?
I fish smaller lakes and ponds also. I've caught a lot of fish on chrome rattletraps and bright spinnerbaits, which most guys would use in lakes with shad, but these lakes have only bluegill, crappie, and craws for forage. I don't think you really have to match the hatch that closely. For larger bass on these lakes, I use a jig or plastic worm, fished slowly on the bottom.

Baits you've given up on?
Not much. May be that's the problem?

What ruins a fishing trip for you more than anything?
Drunks. Never could tolerate them, and never will.

A Tube Bait Question
I plan on using some tube baits this spring for LM bass. Ive gotten away from using them for the past few years. As of now, my tube bait collection is pretty slim. I've got a few old Hibdon G2 ( thin wall) tubes, some old Riverside( solid head) tubes, and one new pack of Zoom thick wall tube baits. We'll be casting them around docks, blowdowns, and other similar areas, water depth of ten feet or less. I'll be getting some new tube baits soon. My question is, do you like a thin wall or thicker wall tube for LM bass? We'll start out fishing them with an open hook, tube jig head. As the weeds start to come in, we'll probably t rig them. What tube style do you prefer in this scenario for LM bass?

Baits you've given up on?
Chatterbaits. They just don't seem to work well on the lakes I fish.

Is there a name for my rig?
It sounds to me like your using a " swimming worm". This is an old rig, where the worm is threaded onto the hook as you described. Some credit a guy named Jesse Payton from Florida for inventing this rig. Doug Hannon also sold a pre rigged " swimming worm" rig years ago. I think Hannons rig came with a pre rigged leader of heavy mono, and was designed to swim through the water on the retrieve, not fished on the bottom.

What are your top three fluorocarbon lines and the worst?
I havnt really liked flourocarbon lines too much, at least the ones I've tried. I've had kinks, and what I thought was poor knot retention also. I may try another one this spring, but, overall, I still like mono over flouro lines for bass fishing.

Best conditions for white colors?
I've had pretty good luck on white over the years, under various conditions. White spinnerbaits, white plastic grubs, and the white underside of many topwater baits can be good also.

One Shimano baitcaster you have to have...and why?
I've got my heart set on a Calcutta. One of these days...

“Fast” vs “Slow” fishing
I used to fish fast years ago, but I've since started fishing slower, and I've caught more fish with a slower retrieve.

Old School Technique : Slider Head Fishing For Bass
I have used mostly the Spider head, and sometimes the snagless head. I like the original heads the best, over the pro model. Slider fishing still works well, and the Brewer company has stood the test of time. Although I've never caught many large bass on a Slider, I've had many good numbers trips with them. It's all about speed and depth control, and a relaxing, non tiring style of fishing. The book is a good read also

Old School Technique : Slider Head Fishing For Bass
I still throw them occasionally. Spider slider head, with a 4" worm, various models. I fish them on a fast action, med spin rod. 6 or 8 lb line. The Slider Co had they're 50th anniversary this year. They still catch good numbers of bass.
