This is probably true. When my brother gave me the ABU 5000, I thought I was a real serious bass guy. But, I spent most of my first summer picking out backlashes. Thought I'd never get the hang of bait casting, but I did get it eventually. Now, I'm glad I stuck with it.

A- Jay, I'm going to tell his mother that the military is what he needs.Ive thought about this myself. He needs something that he can't back out of do easily.

Four months ago, my nephew came to stay with us. He was sent here by his mother( my wife's sister) to see if we, or mainly I, could help him. Kyle is 20 hrs old, has graduated high school with decent B average grades. His problem is he will not keep a job. In the last year he's had seven jobs. Two of these jobs paid pretty good, and had benefits. He was hired at a Fed Ex warehouse at 21.00 per hr when he first came to our house. He worked two weeks and quit. He was hired shortly after on the county road crew, and worked one week. This job paid good also. He has no problems with any substance abuse, and when he works, he's a hard worker. Everyone likes him. But, he won't stick with it. I know many guys would say kick him out, but, I don't think this is the answer. He'll go back home and do this again. I look back to when I was 20 hrs old. I liked working, because I liked making money. My dad would have never accepted this. And, I would have never expected him to. Now, I'm worried about this kid. If he keeps this up, nobody will hire him. Im sure I could get him a job on a framing crew that I know. But, I'm afraid to stick my neck out for him. I'm looking for some answers here. What can I do to get this kid motivated? I'm at the end of my rope with him now.

Over the weekend I drug out the first casting outfit I ever had. Mine was a red ABU 5000 reel, mounted on a Zebco fiberglass rod, med/hvy action. The reel was a hand me down from my older brother. Holding this combo, then, holding any newer combo I have, the first thing you notice is the weight difference. My old one feels like it's made out of lead in comparison. A lightweight outfit may not make you a better fisherman, but, they sure do make repeated casting much easier, and far less tiring. I hope some of the beginners at bass fishing realize that they're lucky. Thanks to modern materials, you guys took up this sport at the right time. You can easily cast for half a day or longer, without wearing your arms and shoulders out. The new lightweight gear is the way to go. And, they keep getting lighter all the time.

You may not need a leader. If your still wanting to use a blood knot use 5to6 wraps and use some waterproof glue to smooth the knot. Tied well,blood knots usually hold.

What a game. This has been one of the best playoffs ever.All these teams played fantastic! Theyve all earned my respect.

The Chiefs are in! Wow! Exciting football tonight! All these games have gone down to the wire. I just spilled cheese dip on my Chiefs shirt. I don't care!

I was disappointed in Green Bays loss. The Chiefs will have to bring they're best game today. Bills are tough.

My grandson bought a Lew's G spin two years ago. Cost was ,40.00. It's worked perfectly. His is a 200 size. But, you can get a 3000 size also.

Going back some time: A deep clear lake tourney- main species, small mouth bass. The team of Charlie Brewer and Billy Westmoreland. I still tend to think they'd be hard to beat, even today.

I'll say Larry Nixon and Tommy Martin. A great duo.

Clear water- plastic grub. Off colored water- spinner bait or lipless baits.

My dad told me about a trip he made back in the late 1940s. He went with a couple of army buddies up to Minnesota on a two day guided fishing trip. One of the highlights of the trip was a shore lunch, prepared by the guide. The guide offered two choices. Fresh caught fish, or ham and eggs. Both were served with fried potatoes and biscuits, which were cooked in a large cast iron dutch oven. Dad and his friends chose fresh fish. He told me that the fish, along with the beautiful scenery, made this a special meal, and was the perfect way to finish up a good fishing trip. He mentioned it a few times over the years. To me, this sounds like an awesome thing to do. If given a choice, I'd have to go with fresh fish also. I'm wondering, is a shore lunch still popular with guides up north? I've seen old pictures, calenders, etc, but, these were from years ago. If you've ever had a real shore lunch, please describe it for me. What food did you have? How was it cooked? Was it prepared by a guide, or someone else? I'm interested in this because I hope to do this myself one of these days.

Rebel Ringworm

I know many here on BR fish for other species as well as bass. If there were no bass to fish for, what species would you target?

I've always liked ringworm styles. Good action and less plastic to set the hook through.

Whatever it is must be going around. I'll felt rough for three days myself.My wife got a home covid test which came up negative. I wasn't surprised, because I don't believe in those test anyway. I'm eating eggs for protein, taking Theraflu, and drinking lots of water. I'm ready to be done with it. I've been doing a lot of winter daydreaming also.

I have a few left. I kept looking for the 6" size, but nobody carried them locally. Last night found them on the Mann's website. 6" in grape has always been a favourite.

Mine are as follows: 1. Zoom Trick Worm. 2. Zoom Finesse Worm. 3. Zoom U Tail. 4.Roboworm Straight Tail. 5. Mann's Jelly Worm. 6. CB Slider Worm. 7. Culprit Ribbon tail. 8. Creme Scoundrel. 9. Asst Gambler and Producto. I'm using up some older worms I've had this coming year. Most all of these are junebug, grape, purple, black, and blue colors. I may try to pick up some of the newer Berkeley worms if possible. What plastic worms are you using in 2022? Are they're any new ones your trying?
