2023 MN Season Thread
Hot weather and busy around the house has kept me off the lake as of late - but tomorrow Bass Trek gets wet again. Wish me luck...with the cooler weather, we're probably looking at a change of tactics.

Dying spinnerbait skirt with Rit?
Rit dye is for natural fabrics that are porous...they even don't recommend it for fabrics containing more than 30% synthetic fibers. Reading a couple other forums on dying - Rit just washes off silicon rubber...doesn't even really take. If you want to go the cheap route - get a chisel tip sharpie and color each strand individually.

New trolling motor
I had to scrimp and scrape to get the $500 for my MK Edge that I got from Factory Outlet...10x that? Not in this lifetime.

Noisy daiwa reel
I'd stay away from Ardent - go with Cals Tan https://www.amazon.com/Cals-tan-Drag-Reel-Grease/dp/B08FGG26FX 1oz will go a long way....

Lithium battery FYI
^ Nothing is totally safe - but based on all information I stand by my previous statement that amounts to "LiFePo4 batteries are MUCH safer than Lithium-Ion

Noisy daiwa reel
^ Yep - most of the noise is probably coming from the gears and not the spool...and you use grease there, not oil.

Noisy daiwa reel
I just noticed in the OP "it's been noisy ever since I got it,". That's actually pretty typical now-days. I always go through a new reel to make sure that either A: They've greased/oiled it or B: They haven't over greased/oiled it. Rarely do I get a new reel that's properly greased/oiled anymore.

Lithium battery FYI
^ As mentioned earlier - that's the older Lithium-Ion technology. LiFePo4 is a much safer tech, the bonding makes them much less likely to catch fire, and they do not emit the harsh chemicals Lithium Ion batteries do if they do get exposed to fire. "Overall, the iron phosphate-oxide bond is stronger than the cobalt-oxide bond, so when the battery is overcharged or subject to physical damage then the phosphate-oxide bond remains structurally stable; whereas in other lithium chemistries the bonds begin breaking down and releasing excessive heat, which eventually leads to thermal Runaway." https://www.relionbattery.com/knowledge/how-are-lifepo4-batteries-safer-than-other-lithium-batteries

Noisy daiwa reel
The Tatula CT is a bit noisier than the Tatula 100 (I have both). Realize that the Tatula CT is just a slightly upgraded Fuego CT - same frame, spool, main gears, etc - only real difference is that the Tatula CT has the T-Wing.

Does this seem like it would be a good matched setup for Shakey
A 2500 reel is pretty typical for a Medium power bass rig - wacky, shakey, Neko, weightless plastics (flukes, paddletails, worms. For an ultra-light or even a light setup - I prefer 1000 size reels....current crappie rigs I have. Pflueger President 25 (1000 size reel) on an Okuma Celilo 7'6" UL/F Mitchell Avocet RZT-1000 on a Dobyns Fury 702SF (7'0" ML/F) For my finesse bass rigs I have Shimano Miravel 1000 on a Daiwa Procyon 7'0" L/F Shimano Ultegra 1000 on a St Croix Mojo Bass 6'10" ML/XF

Braid life
50# 832 on my pitching rig - 5 years old 40# 832 on my frog rig - 4 years old No plans on replacing either in the near future.

Shimano Miravel
Drag should be set to 1/3-1/2 of line test - so if you're running 8# test, you should be able to pull line out at 3#-4# of tension.

Will you southern boys take your weather back...please.
Well, I'm gonna spend as little time outside this weekend as possible They're saying that Sunday and Monday we have a 50/50 shot of breaking the old high-temp records for those days.

Shimano Miravel
I don't like Daiwas cause they seem to think you need 'a million miles' of line on the reel - wish they'd sell standard spool depths in addition to their 'D' spools on the models I'd be interested in. And what's with the super speed reels - I don't need 36IPT on a 2500 spinning reel - that's faster than my fastest casting reel...bring back the 5 ratios on the larger reels.
-
Shimano Miravel
Not much weight, but it adds to the complexity of the gearing inside. Shimano was the first, now all the models of Pflueger don't have AR switches anymore...it's a growing trend.

Loosen the drag...

for those who live in legal rec maryjane states
Our state just got on the 'legal cannabis' train - won't affect me. Tried it back in college in the late 70s - all it did was give me a headache.

71 and sunny here right now.

To loosen drags or not?
Like @Bankc - if it's Oil-Felt or plastic, it gets loosened, Carbon-Fiber I just leave alone. And I've been upgrading all my non-Carbon discs to Carbon.

Old school music.
For boogie-woogie, I prefer my 'home town girls' Ya - they grew up in the town I live in. "The Andrews Sisters, LaVerne, Maxene, and Patty, grew up in Mound, Minnesota. They spent all of their summers here from 1917 through 1931, living in a house that today would be at 2506 Commerce Blvd." https://twincitiesmusichighlights.net/artists/andrews-sisters/
