  1. Gets better - look for a fast melt of the lake ice - 7-Day forecast has this. Monday Mostly sunny, with a high near 71. South southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Monday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 46. South wind 10 to 15 mph. Tuesday Sunny, with a high near 71. South southwest wind around 15 mph becoming west in the afternoon.
  2. Good pick - I'm sure he'll be a welcome addition to the crew. Ably assisted by 'Half-dozen'.
  3. The actual electronic portion that sends/receives the signal is round - the rectangle case includes other components that convert the sound waves (sonar signal is sound) into electrical signals that are send down the wires.
  4. Only thing I'd do is put a leader on for treble baits - spooks, other walking baits.
  5. Basically the same you'd see if mounted normally to shoot down. You'll get returns, but trying to identify them is problematic. Also, the cone that standard 2D and the 'slice' that Clear Vue (Garmin's Downscan) gives you won't help place the fish as they could be anywhere in the 'field of view'.
  6. We got one more little dip with some snow predicted for later today into tomorrow - but less than an inch. Lots of melting going on, the 6" we got a couple days ago is already almost gone. They're looking at near 60 this weekend.
  7. I guess I'm a little bit of a 'spend-thrift' then. Cheapest spinning rigs I got are 1: Mitchell Avocet RZT-1000 on an 7'6" Okuma Celilo UL/F 2: Mitchell Avocet RZT-2000 on an 7'0" Okuma Celilo L/MF - two of my crappie rigs - about $90 retail each Other end of the spectrum are 1: Shimano Miravel 2500 on a 7'1" Mojo Bass M/F - that's my shaky/neko/wacky rig - about $280 retail 2: Shimano Ultegra 1000 on a 7'0" Procyon L/F - my ned/hair jig rig - about $230 retail.
  8. You letting the wife drive it?
  9. Up here She's saying to us, "You thought it was Spring? Ha! Have some more winter, foolish mortals."
  10. She's laughing her arse off.
  11. Agree - I may have Victorys and Mojos in my lineup...but I still have two Aird-Xs in there as well...darn good rods for the price.
  12. ~ Semper Paratus ~ @A-Jay and his wife are retired Coasties My grand-uncle (mom's uncle) was a member of the Academy class of 1928, earned Legion of Merit during WW-II, retired in 1961 as a Rear Admiral.
  13. I use 17# Sufix Siege since they'll take it down into the milfoil.

  15. Yep - it's official "3rd Snowiest Winter on Record at the MSP Airport!! Well the numbers are in and the official tally at the MSP Airport as of 7AM Saturday was 8.5" and that brings us to the 3rd snowiest winter on record! 1st: 98.6" (Set in 1983-84) 2nd: 95.0" (Set in 1981-82) 3rd: 89.7" (Set in 2022-23)" https://www.startribune.com/melting-snow-this-weekend-first-shot-at-50f/600263697/
  16. Swim jigs with paddle-tails worked fast over flats or the tops of weeds are my favorite search baits.
  17. What I heard is that we were at #5 before last night's storm...we may hit #3.
  18. Al Lindner made a FB post about Gussy's win...remembers fishing against Jeff way back when...like this pic of Al with 16yo Gussy and his fishing partner.
  19. I have it basically to follow some people Bands I like Fishing channels - BR, Angling Edge (Lindner), few others NWS - their alerts there are easier to read than on their web-page Few family members. Rarely post.
  20. Well, I got about 6" of heart-attack snow here last night. Worst part is that the guy who usually snow-blows for me is off with his wife and daughters for Spring Break. Looks like I'll be doing shifts outside so I can get where I need to go.
  21. How can you water down good Irish Whiskey? Should be drunk 'neat'.
  22. RC, Phone, AA and AAA rechargables are Lithium-Ion...which does have the bad rap of getting hot and burning...why you don't see them in heavier duty usage anymore. LiFePo4 is much safer than Lithium-Ion...if I had the money, I'd have no compunctions about going LiFePo4 in the boat.
  23. Across the board, a 1000 frame is smaller than a 2500. Premier, Trout, and Panfish series would all be upgrades from a Triumph. Anything above those are primarily longer bass rods...with the exception of the Salmon and Steelhead series which are designated as trolling rods.
