  1. Sounds like the level-wind worm gear is dirty Location - the mechanism rides on the worm-gear. What it looks like un-assembled Just a good spray with alcohol a brush with a medium-stiff hobby brush to clean it...then some oil. Shouldn't have to take the reel apart to do this.
  2. Going the other way, it's (LxGxG)/800=pounds Solving for pounds to L & G is a bit more difficult but we'll make an assumption based on average length to weight of 21-5/8 to 21-3/4 for a 6.1# bass so we'll split the difference and call it 21.7 6.1*800/21.7 = 224.88 - square root of that is 14.99 So best guess-timate is 21.7" long, 15" girth.
  3. We don't need no stinking research. Seth - always Others - roll some dice in my head.
  4. Hook on the keeper - weight end wrapped around the reel-handle base a few times. Leaves a bit of a loop - but the weight ain't swinging free.
  5. Pit Boss Chigger Craw Rage Craw Brush Hog D'Stroyer
  6. Fury 702SF, President 25, 10# Sufix 832 to 6# InvizX leader. Been good to me.
  7. Base Ugly Stick combo retails for around $50 new - you might get $20-$25 for a 16 year old combo...if you're lucky.
  8. So long as you don't put line that's too thick on it, there's really no hard-fast rule as to braid/mono test vs size of reel. I've got a 3000 that I'm running 20# braid on, a different 3000 with 12# FC A 1000 that has 10# braid and another 1000 with 6# FC Smaller reel, smaller line diameter is pretty much the only factor I consider.
  9. Similar here - my 110-Bone gets ignored while my 90-Bluegill gets hammered.
  10. You're never going to get a graphite-frame reel (Hero) to perform as well as an aluminum-frame reel (LFS) no matter how much you toss into it.
  11. Just remember - it might damage the rod in a way that will make it un-usable...so think carefully on it.
  12. Can't guarantee it'll work without causing damage to the rod...but... Carefully - and with as small an amount as it takes - dribble a little acetone into the joint. That will soften/dissolve the super-glue...but too much and you'll take paint off as well as affecting the epoxy used on rods over the wrapping. If you're worried about damaging the rod... Congratulations - you're now the proud owner of a 1-piece rod.
  13. This crapped out for two reasons 1: I ordered the 7.1:1 - they shipped a 5.4:1 2: Shoddy packing - they just tossed the reel box in a bigger box and let it knock about loose. Reel-box busted open and the reel just wandered around getting who-knows-what kind of damage. Shipped it back after a back-n-forth - says he won't even charge 'restock fee' for it...we'll find out.
  14. Every so often you can find Diawa CA-80s on sale for around $63. It's the aluminum frame version of the CR(resin frame)/CC(Carbon frame)/CG(Graphite frame)-80s. Right now, Walmart has them for $75 and E-Bay for $73
  15. By the time you spend enough to make those reels worthwhile - you could have purchased new reels better than what you made those for less cost. The big problem with those is that they're 'plastic' framed - decent metal framed reels can be had as low as $60-$70 on sale.
  16. Looks like all five of my guys are fishing tomorrow - with two in the top 10 so far.
  17. ^X2 - I started with all Aird-X rods for my BC needs and even after adding three Furys, I still have two Aird-Xs in my lineup...and I'm not sure if I'm going to upgrade those in the future unless I get a big windfall and can go to Victory, Avid or Tatula (not XT).
  18. Last year I had a gal in a kayak ask me what time it was. She wasn't topless, but the micro-kini she was 'almost' wearing left little to the imagination. Didn't catch any bass that day, but it was a beautiful time out anyway...
  19. With the various ways of tying an FG posted in vids and sites, I have to ask what method are you using to tie it? I have no issues tying 10# Sufix 832 to 6# Seaguar InvizX with an FG.
  20. Wow - I did better than I thought...this morning's e-mail update
  21. Ya - my luck yesterday was zilch-nada-nothing. Tried everything I could think of and not even a nibble. They're still hanging out deeper - couldn't reach them from shore. Hopefully I'll be able to get the canoe out at some point, but the logistics right now are non-conducive.
  22. It's gonna be tough - it's at an angle, we have nothing more than your hand for comparison...best I can come up with is between 2# and 4#. If you click on my avatar you'll go to my profile...click on the pic there and it gives you a larger view...that one is 3.94#
