  1. Sounds like my first - this was me with it back around 1967... Moved to a 6-tray in the mid-70s and stuck with that until I started back seriously fishing about 5 years ago...this was my total tackle 'stash'. Now it's 2-3700 size bags and 2-3600 size bags for my main stash, and a 3600 Weekender for my panfishing needs.
  2. The one's here are 1/16 and 1/8 - I already had 1/32 and 1/4.
  3. Pack of 150 bobber stops for 4#-8# line...crappie jigging with slip-bobbers.
  4. I'll second that. I bought an Avocet RZ combo a few years ago...2000 size on a ML Avocet rod. Reel is in the drawer as an emergency backup. Rod is my main crappie rod with a new RZT-1000 reel on it. It is a very good rod for the money.
  5. I've been buying more and more from Fish USA and Scheels Latest Scheels order. Placed Sunday 4/25 - Shipped Monday 4/26 - estimated arrival Thursday 4/29 - actual arrival - Wednesday 4/28 Fish USA is almost as fast - and I never pay extra for 'priority handling' from either one.
  6. I know - braid ready (aluminum spool, line-roller bearing) and I've been a Mitchell fan-boy since I got a 320 for Yule back in 1967 - when the Avocet RZTs went on discount, I grabbed four reels...already had rods lined up for them.
  7. Personally - I'm happy with my Avocet RZTs - better than other reels at their price point. 2000-size on a 6'6" Medium/Fast rod for $40 - they're on clearance because Mitchell dropped the Avocet line. https://www.scheels.com/p/mitchell-avocet-rzt-spinning-combo/8950-1347888.html
  8. Since it's still 2-1/2 weeks to bass opener and the crappie are running - picked up some stuff for chasing them. Jig under bobber is what's been attracting them...so that's what I'm going with.
  9. If nothing else, get some carbontex sheets and cut your own...that's what I did for my felt-oil equipped spinners Whoo - fastest spinner I have is 31-IPT and only two others of my eight are above 26IPT...my finesse reels are 22.0", 22.4" and the 'speed demon' at 25"...never saw the need for fast spinners for finesse work.
  10. This is what I use. https://www.amazon.com/Berkley-BALC-Clip-on-Line-Counter/dp/B005OTYW2E
  11. Of the eight spinners currently in service and one retired only because it's a left-hand retrieve only, five of mine are Pfluegers. I'm very happy with them...been a Pflueger fan-boy since the 70s.
  12. Pflueger Supreme 30 - about the same size as a 2500 from the others...weighs about what a Nasci 1000 does.
  13. If the backing is the same diameter as the braid - yes - though I put around 70yds of main-line on my reels. For more exact calculations...use this site. Advanced fishing reel line capacity estimator - Pattaya Fishing
  14. No more than just main-line to leader. The connection between backing and mainline should be deep enough that you never reach it on casting. If you've removed enough main-line through re-ties that you do get to it...it's time to replace the main-line.
  15. This much is true. Looking back at 2010-2019 tournament result summary for Lake Minnetonka on the DNR site. While the average bass caught was 2.5#-3# - every year saw 6#-7# bass caught...so they're there...it's just finding them Lake Auburn - which holds the current state record of 8-15 from 2005 coughed up an 8-5 in 2017. It's not out of the realm of possibility that a new state record will be set sometime in the not-so-distant future...it might even be in the Rochester area.
  16. Difference - you got a plethora of DD bass down there - our state record is just shy of 9#...don't need a 4000 reel to hunt bass up here.
  17. The ones I was looking at were all LT series - and unless you go JDM, can't seem to find any that aren't deep spools. I'll probably stick with my Pfluegers - unless PF does to the spinning line what they did to the BC line.
  18. Well, my Avocet RZT-2000 has 8#, and it's not a deep spool like most of the Diawas...one issue I have with Diawa spinning reels - I don't want a deep spool For someone starting out...I can agree with you...start with the larger one for the 8#. I do KVD the crap out of non-braid line when spooling up and touch it up regularly...might be the reason I don't have issues.
  19. I guess I'm over-loading. I run 8# on my 2000-size, 6# on my 1000-size.
  20. I'm a little disappointed with PF right now. They've removed all but the President XT from the BC lineup...I sent an e-mail a month ago asking about this...still haven't heard anything back, and there's no news blips about a redesign or anything. It's a shame cause I've been a Pflueger 'fan-boy' since the 70s...half my spinning and 2/3 of my BC reels are currently Pfluegers...but if PF is 'tanking' the brand, I may have to look elsewhere.
  21. A 4000 reel is huge - more for large pike or musky fishing. For panfish, bass and trout I'd go with the 2000 or 2500. Line ratings on rods are just a suggestion...for what you're targeting, I'd go with a good quality 8# mono... Berkley Trilene XL, Sufix Elite or Sufix Siege.
  22. Oh, I'm willing to bet that Keri makes him pay for the privilege. Good vid, Glenn - very helpful.
  23. It should be fine - tongue bleeding will stop soon enough in the water...it's not like you ripped a gill or two loose.
  24. Since I got back to 'regular' fishing? Winter - this year it was late September to mid April between trips.
  25. Ya - some reels are noisy out of the box - my President and even one of my Fuego CT reels are a bit noisy. Long as everything is working properly...then I wouldn't worry it...it's just a minor annoyance.
