Spinning Rod with Walking Baits?
Everyone is going to toot what they think is best. Some would avoid spinning rigs all-together if they could - others would go to all spinning if they could. Entirely dependent on experience. Myself - larger walking baits like a Super Spook I toss on casting gear, mainly because I don't have a spinning rod that can easily handle it - but regular Spooks and even Puppies go on the spinning rig. I have no problems walking with either...but I will admit it's a little easier with the spinning gear...probably because I have a dozen more years experience with that than with baitcasters. Use what you're comfortable with and I'll use what I'm comfortable with. Neither of us is wrong, and to imply so is wrong.

Favorite wacky hook?
The weed-guard on a weedless wacky hook isn't terribly strong...thick weeds or branches in your case will defeat it. Best option is to hook the worm weedless...that'll give you a better chance of deflecting off those branches.

Favorite wacky hook?
Underwater branches or are you hitting standing trees?

Ask James?
When he's not on tour he's pretty responsive from what I've seen. He's busy during tournament season.

Also favorite worm hooks?
Owner again - best spot in price/performance balance from my experience. I try to have mainly Owners no matter the hook type. Only exception is Trokar for flipping hooks.

Also favorite worm hooks?
Not a problem Senko types - 3/0 Finesse worms - 2/0

Exciting News!
Spinning reel - turn the knob at the top of the spool - looking down on it from end, "righty-tighty, lefty loosy"...clockwise to tighten, counter-clockwise to loosen Baitcaster - the 'star' under the handle - same thing - clockwise to tighten...etc Loosen until it takes a bit to pull line out - but not having to strain...maybe 4-5 lbs of pull for that 20# braid.

How do you set the hook on octopus hooks?
If I'm tossing in the 'cabbage' and want weedless - Owner Weedless Wacky hooks.
-
How do you set the hook on octopus hooks?
My mistake - I was mind-set on drop-shot from my earlier post. Wacky for a 5" Senko/Zlinky/Stik-O, etc - 1/0

How do you set the hook on octopus hooks?
Mainly - sometime with a soft sweep to the side...not a hard 'jerk' like you would with a spinner or chatter. Depends on the size plastic I'm using. a TRD CrawZ or HogZ - #2 a RI Little Dipper - #1 a 3" Craw gets a 1/0 as it's bulkier Worms get off-set worm hooks though - Zoom Finesse, 4" Berkley Power Worms, etc - 2/0

How do you set the hook on octopus hooks?
Dunno the first, never use Octopus hooks For wacky - I use Owner SSW hooks...same hooks I use for Drop-Shot...sized to the plastic used.

Tatula 100H 6.3:1 on the way. Needs a rod?
Fury 705CB Cranks, spinners, chatters - want a more moderate action, especially for treble lures.

What should be my next rod/reel
My frog rod IS my flip/pitch rod. If you're looking at hard swimbaits - a 6"-7" is going to be too much for a standard heavy...you'd have to go to a swimbait rod. Soft swimbaits, OTOH, are well within a Heavy rod's capability.

Kayak Helix 7 battery size?
I dunno what 18v tools you have - but my Ryobi 18v batteries only have 4AH - dropping to 12v with an adapter raises that to 6AH@12v So you'd need two of them - and you can get a 10-12AH 12v for cheaper than two Ryobis...easier to hook up too.

Getting Old
Get a new optometrist. By not wearing sunglasses enough in my youth (I'm 61), my eyes were exposed to UV rays - and I got cancer (Choroidal Melanoma). Now I'm a 'one-eyed wonder' as the right eye was removed 6 years ago. WEAR YOUR SUNGLASSES - and make sure they protect against UV rays.

Battery box for trolling motors?
Both Aux ports are standard car cigarette lighter ports - so just an adaptor. I have mine wired to a switch panel where I mounted a bare dual-USB socket. You can see the switch panel below and slightly to the right of the fishfinder. Top switch powers the fishfinder, bottom switch powers the USB socket which is under it. The battery itself is under the fore-seat. Wiring from the aux-ports to the switch panel runs under the gunwale, wire for the TM runs through the gunwale.

Battery box for trolling motors?
Get the MinnKota box - I have one and it does make a difference. No splashing of water on the battery Aux-port 1 connects to USB sockets to power my camera/tablet Aux-port 2 runs my fish-finder My charger can plug into one of the aux-ports instead of having to use clamps or such on the main terminals
