  1. For me it's primarily weight - shakys for me are on spinning One technique for me is spinning only...skipping. I can't skip worth a darn with a BC - which is why I have a MH/F spinning rig for skipping jigs, spinners, etc.
  2. Any 'jig' style lure - the printed weight usually just applies to the head...hook, skirt, etc are in addition. A couple manufacturers ARE putting the total weight on the label - but it's few and far between. This applies to jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, buzzbaits, etc.
  3. This is my winter-storage area in the 'man cave' - everything is in the tackle-bags now ready to go out...I don't have as much as some others do. Rods are upright in the corner to the left of this bookcase.
  4. As a budget minded person, I've still got a hankering for Pflueger (BC & Spin) and Mitchell (Spin) - which I've had reels from those brands since the 70s...but I've added Diawa (BC) to the list.
  5. Ya - just have to look at the stocking history to see it. Millions of walleye, northern and musky fry/fingerlings over the years - maybe a few dozen bass. It's nuts.
  6. Fixed it - walleye are native to Minnesota...but being the state fish, much more attention is paid to them and they've been introduced to a lot more lakes - but are indigenous to a lot of water here. https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/fish/walleye/biology.html
  7. This is the pair I have and they've worked well for me. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L2WBGNS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  8. No warm water - run it through a rag dampened with KVD L&L as I'm spooling.
  9. Immediate release - you're not even suppose to weigh/measure it.
  10. You're not the only one, pal.
  11. 27 days to bass opener and 'Tonka is at 52 - but the next few days are going to be cold and they predict the water temp to drop back to 50 by Thursday. So even the lake is on a roller-coaster.
  12. If I want to slow the ROF of a stickbait...or any other plastic for that matter...I just put a few small air bubbles inside them to make them a little more buoyant. I've got some used hypodermics a diabetic friend gave me - but this could probably work too.
  13. If it's coming from the California location, they're under mandatory restrictions - so they don't have the number of people working in the back-room as they normally would have. If you're getting it via normal ground, your order is put after the express service orders, then in order of receipt...so ya, it can be a bit.
  14. Ya - I just checked mine - post just above yours was done 13 minutes ago...I can still edit it. So give it time...you'll get there.
  15. There is a set time period you have to edit the post - longer you're here, the more time you get...beginning users have a very short time.
  16. Ya - a buzzbait is suppose to be pulled across the surface - the blade kicking up water. Maybe a faster retrieve - I do mine on my 8.1:1 Fuego CT, 33.9" per turn on a full/near full spool. More line that's out on a long cast, the slower the retrieve rate is on any reel until you get back to that almost full status.
  17. It's gonna happen occasionally - only way to totally avoid it is to not fish. Just deal with it and move on.
  18. X3 on the Lowrance - two seasons with a Hook 2-4 before upgrading this past winter.
  19. I got my initial reaction on film...here's the lost lure/pike incident.
  20. Bass, walleye, sauger, northern, and muskie all close the end of February. Muskie opens again June 5, bass opens for C&R on May 15 - keepers on May 29, rest open on May 15. They say it's to protect the spawn, and up till a few years ago Bass was completely closed until the end of May. They finally opened it to C&R when the other species season opened.
  21. Not in my usage - chatters are worked like swim jigs...below the surface but above the bottom.
  22. I go work on something that'll consume a few hours of concentration - like working on one of my scale models.
  23. On my budget - it hurt when a decent size pike made off with my Rattlin' Rap...
  24. Occasional accidental catches are fine - but if it's like what Throttle was encountering, the DNR's EOs might assume he was actually targeting them...and that can result in a possible fine or even loss of license.
  25. I may have quite a bit now - but I started slow. A couple spinners, a few jigs, 5-6 packs of plastics. Built up over a few years to what I have now. (opens a plastics box, glances at his pack of Zoom Trick Worms in Merthiolate, quickly closes the box and stashes it away.) I haven't caught any with that particular plastic yet - it's all been either white/chartreuse or green pumpkin.
