  1. ^ This - the guides for a spinning rod are unsuited to a baitcaster. There's a number of decent baitcasting rods out there for low prices - Diawa Aird-X is my favorite at around $50...even though I've been upgrading, I still have two in my arsenal.
  2. I think you'll like it - I've got the Fuego 8.1 as my flip/pitch/frog reel and I can toss a 3/8oz hollow body about 20-25 yds on a Aird-X H/F with 50#PP - better/lighter rod could probably get more distance.
  3. I've come across those occasionally - I just PM Glenn with the info...he gets it cleared up. It has to do with a 'switch' in the software.
  4. If it's 'high-end', still in good condition, and still works fine - I'd leave it and use it.
  5. If I can't solder the connection, I use crimp-on terminals. Ignore the un-helpful woman and put those ring-terminals on. Don't forget the dielectric grease...
  6. Ya, well I'm limited by budget and room in the canoe...so do the best I can.
  7. ^ What he said - I picked up a FR-703C specifically for jerks and shallow cranks.
  8. I have that exact reel in my arsenal - been using Pfluegers since the 70s - and it's been solid and dependable. It's probably the lowest price you'll pay for a metal-frame reel...and I'd stick with metal-frames as they're less likely to flex under pressure. I've no experience with the Fenwick rods - and I see that price at Scheels. Others have said it's a good rod, but after using a couple, I'm convinced the Dobyns Fury fishes above it's price point...so personally I'd stick with Dobyns...and I bought three more to replace other rods this past winter.
  9. I can squeak you in for that. Plfueger Supreme 7.1 - Amazon for $62 (no longer made, so at steep discount) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0773DMF88/?coliid=IM14ZMOMDJ4VJ&colid=2FGJVI8R82B0P&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Dobyns Fury 704C - Karls has it for $109 - you want to pick the 7' Heavy/Fast from the list. Puts you at $171 plus tax for a pretty good combo. It might say 'Heavy/Fast', but the 704C is really closer to most other's Medium-Heavy...so the 'Swiss army knife' of rods.
  10. You looking for the entire rig - rod and reel - for that price, or just the rod?
  11. I hope it's emptied and rinsed occasionally.
  12. Rapala Jointed Shallow Shad-Rap 07 - 2.75" 3/8oz - 3'-5' running depth - Blue Shad, Clown, Purpledescent, or Silver Shad
  13. I just sent a Google Earth overhead shot of one of my 'haunts' and a little write-up on it.
  14. I think after 4 years, he's found his rod.
  15. If I had the money, I'd replace ALL the tinted windows in my truck with clear - hard to look through especially when backing up as the rear cab, front topper and rear topper are all tinted. I've had cops see the 1" faceted crystal ball I got hanging from mine and ignore it.
  16. Click on the pic - then again...you'll get a larger image. I definitely see the 'teeth' of what looks to be an older Scotty mount inside.
  17. Or just enjoying the radiant heat from the wood. The dark wood above or near the surface warms up, rest of the submerged part tries to reach equilibrium, the water near the submerged wood leeches heat off - ergo the water near the wood is warmer than that further away and the bass (any fish really) will congregate near it to get some of that heat.
  18. For a deep-cycle battery, I don't use a charger that puts too much power into it...I prefer a trickle charger. Here's the two I'd recommend. Deltran Battery Tender Plus or NOCO Genius1
  19. Greased - there's a lower startup force...so it'll protect lighter lines. Un-greased - you'll get a higher top-end...so it'll give you more drag against really big fish. I went the 'cheap' route, got some small squares of Carbontex and made my own for my reels. I grease all mine with Cals - it's the only way to grease drag-washers.
  20. Use Blue, not Red - it's still adjustable. Red is when you want to lock it down semi-permanently. Blue just holds it from vibration or accidental loosening. I'd still go with the Teflon Tape though.
  21. It CAN work - it's how me and a couple friends started a Skeet Club at my high school. Three of us and one teacher for the initial meeting - club started with 23 members of a school of 1000. Some old ideas still work - we started our club back in 1975...ya, I'm a old-fart.
  22. Is there a school bulletin board where you can put up flyers? Get a teacher - any at this point - to reserve a classroom for a meeting after normal hours. Put up a flyer for a meeting to see what the interest is. If no one shows up, you have your answer - if a number show up, then you can start planning to create one...more minds, more ideas.
  23. BPS 370 box with Safety Caps on the hooks to keep them from tangling. This is my general crankbait box - but all my treble lures are stored the exact same way.
