Any Pelican Bass Raider Owners Out There?
Dick's Sporting Goods Also Field and Stream carries (carried?) them - F&S owns DSG Just as an aside - the Field & Stream Scout canoe (14' square stern) carried by DSG and F&S is actually a relabeled Sun Dolphin Scout SS.

Lowe V1258??
For comparison sake - my Scout SS canoe is 84# empty. Add in the TM, battery, gear, mods and me and we're looking at 350#-400#. The 30# MinnKota Endura I have will push that to around 4.5mph according to my GPS.

Plants in Muskegon, MI closing - DSG canceled orders for kayaks...seems they're having problems. https://www.mlive.com/news/muskegon/2020/01/kayak-maker-hemisphere-design-works-closing-third-plant-in-muskegon.html

Lowrance Hook2 4X reviews??
I'd put it in one of those waterproof bags...there are some that allow you to use the touchscreen through them.

Lowrance Hook2 4X reviews??
I dunno about the I-Pads...I stay far away from Apple products...this is a Galaxy Tab-A 8". If it got dunked, it'd probably be toast, but splatters from wet lures, tail-flipping bass and such don't bother it none...just have to clean the screen. Nice thing is that it has 16gb main memory and will take up to a 256gb micro-SD card - I have a 128gb card in it now. So I got room for maps, my music and lots of other things.

Ya - like Navonics on more expensive sonar units, the I-Boating app shows the contour lines, uses the tablet's GPS to track location, can record tracks and can even set waypoints. This is the recording of the day I caught the bass in my profile pic.

Rod Recommendation
Diawa Harrier Jigging rod - about $100 - the 7'0" MH/R is rated 1.75oz to 4.5oz. That's about the best you're going to get price/performance wise in a spinning rod capable of handling those weights.
-
Rod Recommendation
Then look at the Diawa DXSB line - around $100 and there are 4 models that range 1oz-6oz up to 4oz-14oz. They are 8'0" length, but most swimbait-specific rods are longer - and that's what you're going to need to toss those heavy lures. Should note that it's BC only on the DXSB - otherwise you might have to look at saltwater rods.

Lowrance Hook2 4X reviews??
I have the Hook 2-4 (non GPS) unit on my canoe. It's been pretty good with clear definition on the screen. I am looking at upgrading next year since even at the close range I'm viewing it at, the screen is a bit small. For an entry-level unit, I'd recommend it - but like me, in a year or two you might be looking for a larger screen. Pic of my Hook 2 mounted, the tablet above runs my contour-mapping app.

Swim jigs
I also got the Little Dipper in a few colors for use as trailers. Berkley Pit Boss and Berkley Chigger Craw are a couple others.

Bass rods for trout?
We have a stocked lake here and sometimes I go hit it for the Rainbows. Three rods I use for the trout are: Pflueger President-20 on 6'6" UL/F Diawa Spinmatic - this is what I normally use for Ned rigs. Mitchel Avocet RZ-200 on 6'6" ML/F Avocet - my shore fishing/backup finesse rod. Pflueger President-25 on 7'0" Fury ML/F (702SF) - my main finesse rod. Bass rigs are totally suitable for going after trout - if I was able to go somewhere to target steelhead: Pflueger Trion-35 on 7'0" MH/M Okuma Stratus VI - my spinning crank/jig rod.

Towing with a 1/2 ton truck....
Well, if you'd quit taking those dirt back-roads to Menderchuck and fish a real lake, maybe they'd both stay clean.

Towing with a 1/2 ton truck....
I guess mine sips better 5.3L, 3.73 gears, tow package, rated to 11,000. and what do I tow with it? Oh - 15mpg unless I drop it into 4WD.

Line tangling
I use lo-vis green for general use.

Minnesota 2020 Fishing Season
I hear you there - my schedule is what keeps me a loner. Add to that, anyone who came with me would be relegated to a stadium seat in the front of the canoe.

Line tangling
I would hold off on the Yo-Zuri for a bit...get use to casting with mono first. Hybrid is it's own special 'animal' and almost requires use of a line conditioner - the hot-water treatment isn't sufficient.
-
Line tangling
Decent reel - made by Okuma for Dicks Sporting Goods. 3000 size should handle 12# - I'm running 10# Yo-Zuri Hybrid (12# diameter) on my Pflueger Trion-35...which is 3000 size (close enough) and rarely have issues.
-
Problem with line management on spinning reel
The only spinner I don't do this with is my old Pflueger 640 - that one actually has a metal catch that engages the bail...only way to release it is to operated the handle.
-
Line tangling
Ya - smaller spools need lighter line - which reel are you using?
-
Line tangling
I've used XL in the past - it's a good line, not the greatest, but I didn't have the issues you're having. I would suggest stripping the line off - yes, you can save and re-use it. Tie it on with an Arbor Knot - Re-spool it keeping tension on the line...if it starts tangling - work the tangle out. If it starts twisting, turn the source around to remove the twist. Always keep the tension on. I'm sure the slippage you're getting is because the line is loose on the spool. If you're going to use the hot-water trick...make sure it's HOT water - not boiling but hotter than you'd be comfortable sticking your hand into for more than a couple seconds.
-
Line tangling
Okay - spinning reels are MUCH more prone to line-twist than BCs. Sometimes it's unavoidable, but there are things you can do to mitigate it. - Don't back-reel - let the drag do it's work. - Treat the line with a good conditioner - I prefer KVD, others may suggest something else - If you're using inline spinners (Mepps, Blue Fox, etc) use a swivel - otherwise don't use one. Regular double overhand - like a Scout square knot? Unless you're real careful, it might not tighten on the spool properly. I always use an Arbor Knot, never have to tape or secure it with more than just the knot, and I run mono, hybrid and braid. Did you make sure there was tension on the line when spooling it up?
-
Do you boil your monofilament line?
Ya, I'm running Elite on two of my three mono spooled rigs this year...I've been impressed with it so far, especially when hit with KVD.
