How Far Down South
I will toss my hat in for SE Louisiana. I catch them all year long Plenty of size You can learn to catch Reds, by utilizing Bassin' gear. Never shovel snow Best food in the country Ziedeco music You know, mid June through the 1st, maybe 2nd week of October for ugly hot and humid weather here in SE LA. Im originally from NW Illinois(Quad Cities) and by mid October, boats, jet skis, canoes, Harleys...etc are getting winterized and dont see the light of day, until April...late March if we were lucky. Just one mans observations.

Scoping Out A New Pond; Chptr 2
A 500 acre lake I have been fishing up in Mississippi was drained in the past 10 years...Google maps has a picture if it without water...than they filled it back up a few years ago, stocked, no fish could be kept for 3 years...that bone dry Google map, makes me look like KVD.

Light topwater baits
I have landed a couple 3's on 6lbs Stren Crappie/Sedona1000/13 Defy Silver in 6/6 Light/Fast. Those were caught wading the Comite River, but they were caught on Rebel Craws. The right backboned rod, is crucial. Im not real impressed with anything on the 13 Defy, EXCEPT the perfect Light action. Im thinking of taking the rod to a local guy and trying to match the action the rod, but with better components.

Light topwater baits
Same as a PopR. Throw them out and let is settle. A couple, three quick jerks and let it sit. Vary the retrieve as you see fit. I caught some bull bluegills a few weeks ago and by bull, they were 11". All on a Green CrickHopper.

Do you get frustrated with catching dinks?
An oldie but goodie: A day of catching dinks, is better than a day at work. Like others, it is therapy for me. Sometimes Im so involved in fishing, that I dont appreciate, sometimes not even notice, the spectacle that Nature affords us. If I caught 50 of them that were 14" long, I would be just fine with that.

Something You Have Yet to Accomplish in Fishing...
Never caught a bass of any make or model, over 4lbs on spinning gear.

Light topwater baits
Oh yeah, the micro market is obnoxious and the price they want for the scaled down versions is even more obnoxious...supple and demand of course. I have great luck, matching the hatch with Rebel Crickets. One would be surprised, how they will get a LMB to rise up and smack one of those.

Light topwater baits
How small we talking? I have a St Croix 6'6" L/F with a Sedona 1000 and 4lb HiViz Stren. That I throw Rebel Crickets, WeeCraws, Single hook Poppers and 1/16oz RoosterTails. It is a mixed bag of Bull Blugills, Crappie,Hybrid and LMB, but it is a d**n good time fishing that light gear, especially in the dog days of summer.

When You Were A Kid....
My love came from my next door neighbor, Tom Cambell. He had a Skeeter and towed it behind a V6 Toyota SR5. I was more of an annoyance to him most summers. He was a school teacher and had summers off. His garage was a meca of fishing for me. He had Rapala crank bodies, hanging on the ends of strings for the overhead lights and posters of bass boats climbing monster waves. Trilene posters of huge bass, wrapped up in the knarliest snags. A couple times a summer he would take me out on the river. When I hit 16 he helped me pick out yo left handed BlackMax baitcasters and two Bass Pro, PowerHump rods. While I know I was a nuisance to him as a kid, he helped shape me into an avid outdoorsman.

Need some pond/kayak rods
I carry 200+ dollar setups in my yak...same stuff gets used while walking the banks.

What is a popular opinion you disagree with?
Fish are line shy, is my biggest beef. Like the the split rings, plastic bills, treble hooks and acid trip color schemes, dont make them bait shy?

We only catch stupid fish
Im not ashamed to catch the stupid ones and I would appreciate the rest of you, leaving the dummies alone...me included.

Fishing with Old Timers
No, because he if catches more fish than you, he rubs it in your face. He literally called out the score on every fish caught until I got several fish ahead of him. I am his kid and I love him, but it got old, quick.

Spinnerbait tips
I caught my PB, working a 3/8oz white spinner bait, with a Silver/Chrome Colorado, like a Jig. I would throw it out, let it sink, reel up the slack and work the tip from 3 to 12...repeat.

Pound line for ewg
I run 10lbs braid on my EWG and straight, offset hooks. No issues yet, I re-tie before I hit the water, though.
-
How Often Do You Change Your Fishing Line?
I run braid all the way now and either reverse it on the spool when it starts to look ragged or when it starts to get low on the spool, I will reverse, and tie into some new stuff.

Need line advice!
Im a Sufix guy, but admittedly I dont have anything over 20lbs test. I did just get in a 600yd spool in 10lbs, lime green and used it for the first time yesterday evening. I caught 3, around the two pound mark and this a high pressure lake. I was using a moss colored line and it was nice to actually watch the pick up and move to deeper water action of that lime green.

Does Hook Color Matter
I liken this to the straight braid or Flouro Leader threads. These fish are hitting plastic baits, in some of the most outrageous color schemes known to man. Some of these baits have multiple split rings and treble hooks. They have wire bent at all sorts of angles, with different sized and colored blades, attached to swivels... With that said, I have some red hooks and I have seen times where they out fish black hooks...confidence thing, maybe? Because I run straight braid amd catch my share of fish.

t-rig "eye"
Did he have a favorite color? I can see it working. Sometimes, the most subtle thing can make the biggest difference. I have seen LMB and Specks get turned on, by red hooks from time to time.

Rashes, Thorns, etc..
Fair enough, they fall off like they are dead and that works for me.

Rashes, Thorns, etc..
Pants, boots, belt, long sleeve shirt, tipless gloves, face mask and boonie hat. All sprayed with that 6 week, keep bugs away stuff and than I spray Picardin on my pants/boots and shirt cuffs. That stuff KILLS ticks when they make contact with it. The only rash I have gotten is on my thumb, from lipping green, fishy critters.

Counting the fishing line—technique
It is either 7 rotations of the spool and than you turn the handle and it stops spinning. OR 7 PASSES from spool to the tip of the rod and than you turn the handle to stop it. If you are trolling, I suspect the latter. If you are paying these guys, than keep asking. If you are not paying, swallow your pride and ask them to show you EXACTLY what 7 passes is.

Low Hooking %
Im with this guy, I try to break their head open, regardless of gear. I have pulled dinks onto to the deck from 20ft away...
