Need help on deciding between two baitcaster reels
Just bought my 2nd Curado K 201HG....so sweet! I have one on a Falcon LowRider MF/ALL PURPOSE/MH and it is exactly that for me in a lot of respects. I'm looking at a custom made rod in the 6'3" range for bank fishing, to mount the 2nd one.

What are your best rods and reels for the money?
Diawa BG's

Finding a good backpack
Are you locked into a backpack? I use a fishing vest and like it better than a backpack. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B077MDSZVY/ref=sspa_mw_detail_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I own this one and have about 40 days of bank and river fishing on it. I would buy it again. It doesn't have a "cooler" option. Buy a ice mule and keep that in your ride with a couple ice packs.

How many have mostly abandoned the Ned Rig
I use the tails off of Senkos, on a 1/16oz mushroom head and have good success with that set up. I usually fish it when I come behind other fisherman, who I watched hit an are pretty good. Fishy spots get hit hard and the NedRig is something a lot of guys don't want to mess with. I might spend 30 minutes tossing into 1500sqft of water...changes colors and vary retrieves, until fish hit or I am convinced the Bass Gods hate me.

Soft plastic swimbaits
3.8 all the way. You can TRig them with a 2/0 or 3/0 EWG. Add a weighted hook, bullet weight...etc They make a really good jig trailer and they are the top of the swim bait market. People complain about them not holding up, but fish have a REALLY HARD TIME letting go of them. Small price to pay, for catching fish.

Best spinning rod for around 130$ or less

Bass Stupid Or Clever Species?
I caught the same fish 3 times, in 5 casts on this YUM Craw this past weekend. I would drop him back into the water. He would swim 10-15ft away and turn and look at me like a dog, waiting for the ball to be thrown. I would pitch it on his face and he would smack it. Dudes face has to be hurting

Need suggestions for my first spinning rod/reel setup.
Fenwick HMG, with a Diawa BG 1500 loaded up with 15lbs 832. All that sets you back, maybe $200 and that includes the 832

Soft Plastics - What are your set ups?
7Ft Falcon LowRider in MH/All Around/MF Action Shimano 201HG with 40lbs 832. I bought this set up recently for bank fishing here in SE Louisiana. I needed enough back bone to get them out of the veggie gardens they live in. I toss a TON of Senkos on this rig: Gamatsu EGW 3/0 1/16oz tungsten bullet Bobber stop on top It is just enough weight to get it through the grass.

The Rebel Ringworm
I just bought a 100 count of "4 black ring worms, with a single curl, white tail from Venom lures. https://www.venomlures.com/ring-worm-venom-lures.html Growing up fishing the muddy Mississippi. We used to wear them out with a worm very similar to the above. T-Rigged under a 1/4 bullet weight and a 3/0 hook. I'm looking forward to throwing them again, in a new AO and pretty positive a lure they have not seen.

What size braid should I go with?

Fishing in "the old days"
Sunset Marina, in Rock Island Illinois. It was an old sand pit that hooked into the Mississippi River, that the county turned into a park, with several boat ramps and marina facilities. My mom would buy me a carton of worms at a little tackle shop on the corner of 14th st and 18th ave. She would drop me off at about 7am and I would use those worms on a #8 gold hook and small bobber. I would fish all the docks and catch panfish. Mom would bring me lunch around noon than pick me up about 4pm. Been hooked on it ever since. That has to be be over 30 years ago. I learned to bass fish on the Hennepin Canal and strip mines of Bureau County Illinois.

What lures did you lose the most in 2019?
Senkos, lots of Senkos.

Disappointed in TW With Rage Prices
I mean, once a person has paid for Keitechs and Genuine Senkos...price tends to take a back seat to straight up catching more fish.

Half of the seasoned fishermen I talk to tell me that by far they catch more with artificial, the other half say nothing beats live bait. Which is true??
I recently bought a Engle Minnow Cooler(13qt) and fish with my 3 1/2 year old son, under Thill micro bobbers like you would see while ice fishing. Im trying to teach a building block skill to him about smaller fish, catching larger fish. Not exactly the topic of this thread, but I think people put the blinders on when it comes to live bait. Same thing with squirrel hunting...it seems to be "below" people. My biggest fish were are caught on live bait.

Best rain gear for a Canada fishing trip?
GoreTex bibs and than there are a bunch of options for the jackets. I recommend the Cabelas bibs and Jackets. I got my first set in 1998 and it served me well for close to 20 years. If you hunt, dont be scared to buy a camo set and get double duty. A good set of rain gear, is a multi purpose piece of gear. I sat through the Iowa/Nebraska game, in a torrential down pour and was dry to bone.

Short Strikes and Soft Mouths
You are always going to lose some fish, just the nature of the fishing beast. I would look at your hook set. I was taught to break their head open, regardless of gear. That just does not always work, especially when using light/finesse gear. A trick I employed on river smallies, was to punch the hook through the plastic, creating a channel for it. Than bring it back in and fish it. Smallies like to nibble, where as a LM just seem to engulf everything, giving you a little more time to get a good hooks set.

Ned rig jig head
How do you like the Kuying? I recently bought a 13 Defy Silver in Light action 6'6" and loved it until it broke on this past weekend...I got a Rooster Tail in a bush and was trying to horse it out...ot broke before the 6lbs mono did. I loved the action, but should have listened to the reviews.

Anyone go leaderless?
I caught 63 LMB this past weekend on a 500 acre lake, 100 degree temprature. The largest was just under 6lbs and almost every fish was between 16-22". I caught them out of a canoe, in 8-12' of water, using 6lbs Stren HiViz Gold, a neon yellow 1/16oz jig head and purple and chartreuse crappie swim bait. If there was one fishing boat, there was a dozen. If there was one jet ski, ther were a dozen...etc. Split rings, plastic bills that are an inch long, treble hooks, Mardi Gras colored baits...etc Im not buying that fish are line shy.

What have you learned this month?
I dont know about your AO, but in mine. The small rivers and creeks are dynamite this time of year. It seems to be below people, to grab one rod, one plano full of light lures and get waist deep in water. A River Runs Through it, has always been an inspiration for me, even though I dont fly fish.

Bullfrog Sunscreen-Is it a good brand?
I have used it in the past and liked the fact it had some bug dope in it. Seemed to work as good as the Coppertone and BananaBoat. I went to Neutrogena this year and doubt I go back to anything else. I have learned to fish in pants and sleeves leaving only my neck, face and hands exsposed. The Nuetrogena has been excellent for my pale ass skin.
