I had my wife cut mine for the first time in March. I have clippers with different length guides. As she started she kept saying how easy it was. Then she had to taper the back which required some skill. She had a hard time getting it right so she just kept taking more off trying to get it straight. When she stopped, my hair line in the back was about four inches higher than normal. She cut it again over the weekend and did a great job. I don't know if I will ever go back to the barber shop. I told her I wouldn't pay her until she gets a license. ?

I don't care what is understood and acceptable. I do what works for me. I use both baitcasters and spinning reels every time I go fishing. I haven't thrown a t-rig with a baitcaster in over 30 years. I've never thrown a jig on a spinning reel. A shakey head is one that I might throw on either. For 3/16 and smaller I would go spinning. That's just what works for me and that might change.

Interesting topic. People say just throw what you have confidence in. I've never liked that approach. Confidence is an emotion. I try to make decision based on logic not emotion. I'll admit I'm not always successful.

Yeah.. my non-fishing retirement todo list is about 5 years long and growing.

I can't wait until I retire, then, I can fish all the time ? I'll be very disappointed if it doesn't work out that way. Should be retiring in a couple of years.

I can't speak for CT but as a general rule states like money. In most states, out of state residence are required to register a vehicle if the vehicle is left in that state longer than a specified length of time. The problem is, if you take the boat back to your home state, they will not be happy if they check your registration and you're a local resident using a boat registered in another state.

I’ve always been amazed at how many people will run at high speed in heavy fog. Many years ago I was on Guntersville and the fog was so thick you could’ve see 20 feet past the bow of the boat. I was fishing near the ramp waiting for the fog to burn off and could hear many boats running at high speed. When I got home I saw on the news that two guys were kill when they hit a causeway at high speed. GPS has only made it worse. It will keep people from hitting a causeway but won’t keep people from hitting me!

I have a Scorpion DC. The breaking system is the second best I’ve used. The best is still a thumb.

I guess it’s too late to tell you that Kentucky Lake has been a disaster the last two years. Most people blame the invasion of the Asian carp. Others say it’s just several bad spawning years. I don’t know the cause but fishing has been tough. I’ve heard good things about the crappie fishing. As for bass, you should be able to catch them shallow or deep right now. Throwing a sinko around the water willow in the creeks should produce a few fish. You’re best bet for a bigger fish will be on the ledges. Be prepared for an 8 lb silver carp to jump in the boat at any time.

A game warden watched the fish being weighted on certified scales then he returned later and checked the scales for accuracy. They were found to be four ounces heavy so they deducted four ounces from the record. The guy made no effort to long arm the fish in the photos and experts have examined the photos. The fish does look small compared to modern photos where all you can see is the fish with the angler in the background with about an 1/4 of his little finger shown supporting the fish. Is it possible that the angler and the game warden conspired to steal a world record? Yes. Is there any evidence that they did? No.

I've heard this point made by more than one fisheries biologist and I've heard it from old timers as well. Smallmouth world record was caught 12 years after Dale Hollow was impounded. Walleye world record was caught 6 years after Old Hickory was impounded.

There is a way to tell with some degree of certainty. Statistical analysis gives us the tools to do exactly that. How many anglers do you know that make an attempt fish two colors equally and analyze the results to determine if the results were statically significant? I don't know any either. The reality is this. If you and your buddy go fishing this weekend and you fish in a way that makes you equally effective at catching fish, there is a 25% chance that one of you will catch the first three fish simply by luck. If that happens, there is a 100% change that the other angler will try to figure out what he's doing wrong. If he concludes that it's the color of the lure, he will switch to that color. If he starts catching fish, that will further convince him that color was the key. In reality you need far more information than three caught fish to draw any meaningful conclusion but that has never stopped any of us from reaching conclusions. I thinks that's one of the main reasons you see so many different opinions on this forum. We've all been trained differently by the randomness of fishing.

Exactly. People also greatly underestimate the roll that good old fashion luck plays in fishing. If someone flips a coin 3 times and it comes up heads every time, most people realize that was just luck. If the guy in the back of the boat catches 3 fish in a row and the only difference is he's throwing a different color, well it must be the color right?

So @NavyVet1204 you cast with your left hand and then switch hands so you can reel with your left? I'm right handed and I do the following Spinning reel - cast right reel with the left. Slow retrieve baits on a baitcaster - cast right, reel with the left so I can make the bait sing with my dominate hand. Fast retrieve baits on a baitcaster - cast right, switch hands, reel with the right.

I'll share my experience with battery chargers. I've used three different chargers in my 30+ years as a boat owner. The first was a cheap one from Walmart. The second is a fancy digital one with lots of bells and whistles. The third is a an onboard charger. They all charge my batteries as expected. They all still work, including the cheap one I bought 30 years ago. The onboard charger is very convenient and worth the money IMO. The newer ones charge the batteries faster than the older one but all of them charge the batteries before I'm recharged and ready to go out again.

I have a lot of respect for the Technological Angler guy and this started me on a search for the truth. The issue is "slant range distortion" and does Humminbird correct it or not. The link you posted suggest they do not. My understanding was they do correct it and they show actual computed horizontal range. After some research, it depends on if the unit has contour mode turned on. When it is off, the water column is displayed and everything is displayed as the slant range from the transducer like you described. When contour mode is turned on, the bottom is graphed at linear horizontal distance. I'm glad I understand that now. I should mention that everything that I've just stated applies to the Humminbird Solix. I don't know if it applies to other models.

The quick easy answer to your question is it is 5 feet to the side of the transducer. I’ve written software that reads my sonar recordings so I can view them at home and side imaging math is very complicated and in some special cases things can get weird.

I have two networked Solix and they share one Lakemaster card. It's my understanding that you cannot do that with Helix. It's possible that they changed that in the latest release. One option is to buy and download individual lake maps and create your own chip. They are typically $20 to $30 per lake so if you fish many lakes it's cheaper to buy the card.

I think the point in the video is that each angler should act as if they are the only boat on the water and should figure out how to catch fish on their own. He's saying it's bad sportsmanship to try to learn through observation while on the water.
