Do people really hate the BPT? I've made many negative post about their scoring system. A lot of people have. That doesn't mean I'm not a fan. I'm a big college football fan and I have my opinion on recent rules changes. Some of them I don't like. That doesn't mean I'm gonna stop watching. When people stop having an opinion on what's happening in professional fishing, that's when the sport's in real trouble.

This should be easy to do. Be sure to use a fuse. Be sure to wire all of the lights in parallel not in series as shown the drawing below. If you wire them in series with each other, then each lights will only get 3 volts.

I've been thinking I need a small craft of some sort that would allow me to fish some of the smaller streams around here. Now @TnRiver46 has got me thinking about this.

I used to fish with a friend who had a mud buddy and a flat bottom boat. He ran across a flat one time in what seemed like about an inch of water. It was amazing the places he would go with that thing.

This kind of stuff could get interesting when everyone has a self driving car and no one under 30 knows how to drive.

You can’t always feel a strike. Know what your lure feels like without a fish on and when it stops feeling like that, set the hook. You can’t explain the feeling, it just doesn’t feel right. It takes time to get that familiar with how you’re lure feels.

I agree with my fellow numbers guy. When people start quoting numbers without saying where they got them it usually means they pulled them out of their ####. That’s said, I do think strike detection is a problem. Mostly because the industry is telling everyone that if you miss a strike it’s because you’re not using a $500 rod.

The Garmin STRIKER 4 has an IPX7 rating which means it can withstand being submerged 1 meter deep for 30 minutes.

For everything on my list, I could have written a paragraph or more about the serious conversations I’ve had over the years with fishing friends and fellow bass club members about how these things were going to ruin fishing. Some of the things on the list still could I guess. The point I think needs to be made is fishery’s are complex and we really don’t know how they will react to changes. Most of the things anglers were panicking about 30 years ago turned out not to be a problem. At one point people were afraid that evasive aquatic vegetation was going to destroy Lake Guntersville. Twenty years later the bass fishing community went ballistic when there was talk of trying to kill it all. Sometimes what we think is harmful turns out to be helpful. I have released every bass I have caught in the last 30 years but I’m not sure if that helps the fishing or contributes to overpopulation. It probably depends on the fishery. Something has had a major impact on Kentucky Lake in the last few years. Most people are blaming Asian Carp. I’m sure they haven’t helped but I don’t know how much they are to blame. The experts are not say they are the only cause. Some people around here are saying they need to kill everything in Kentucky lake and start over. That’s crazy on so many levels and it’s impossible. I try to listen to the experts and follow their recommendations and the regulations that are implemented based on their findings. I also try to not to panic when some pro says the Ned rig is killing thousands of bass.

Man you got me thinking now. I bought my first pair of crocks for fishing in 2018, right when the decline in the Kentucky lake bass population seemed to start. Could it all be my fault?

I’ve been bass fishing a long time. This is a list of the things that I’ve heard over the years that were/are supposed to be an iminent threat to bass. Did I miss anything? Angler hunger Lack of vegetation due to spraying Lack of vegetation due to grass carp Soft plastics LMBV Angler’s touching fish and harming their slime coat causing infection and death. Zebra mussels Common Carp Asian Carp All of these threats and the lakes I fish still have bass.... well except for Kentucky Lake.

I'm 57 years old and it's interesting how much the wildlife has changed in Tennessee in my lifetime. When I was young I remember hearing quail all the time and walking through the woods and having a covey scare me to death when they flew up in front of me. I haven't seen or heard a quail in many years. Then there's deer. We used to get excited about seeing a deer. Now, if you want to see one just look out the window, there's probably one in the yard. Same for turkey. I'll never forget when I was a kid and I saw my first wild turkey while fishing at a pond. Now they're everywhere. It's definitely changed how people hunt.

They can show them catching the fish and just edit out the "Non-Scoreable" part. We don't know what the minimum will be on other lakes. I guess this gives them the ability to adjust it as they go to try as best they can to please everyone. I expect the number of fish caught will be way down but we get to watch them target larger fish which I will be looking forward to.

YEP! That works for me. I'm a big BPT fan, starting today ? It's interesting how they're spinning this. They are now the most demanding tour because they have the biggest minimum fish size.

In the end, there's not a huge difference between the two so I don't think you're gonna regret the purchase either way. The fast one is 19% faster. Personally, I would go with the 6.3 if you're only going to use if for crankbaits. I used a 4.7 for years for lipless crankbaits. Gave me a chance to get some exercise while out on the water ?. Vary the speed of your retrieve and the bass will let you know.

I'm also from the south so I can't answer for other parts of the country. I see no evidence that fishing is in decline. Now as for hunting, I think it has gotten harder in general to hunt. You need a place to hunt and those places are getting harder to find. They ain't made any new land in a long time. Urban growth has taken away some hunting land and land owners are more reluctant to let hunters hunt on their land. My grandfather was a coon hunter and he would just follow the dogs without worrying about who's land they wandered onto. Those days are long gone.

It's a generic statement that could be posted to just about any thread on any forum so that tells me it's a bot of some sort. But why? Maybe they are just testing to see if their bots can create an account and make a post on as many different forums as possible. Then they will used that knowledge to spam those forums later? Maybe I'm wrong and someone was truly moved by stories of American scratch off tickets.

I can’t help you with the lure but I will say that the “pico mullet” was my hairstyle of choice in college.

This is true when the rod is horizontal. When held vertical the center of gravity of the reel is an inch or so from the rod and causes torque. The amount of torque changes with the angle of the rod and is greater with spinning reels since the center of gravity is further from the rod. Torque is measured as force times distance (usually in foot pounds) and since the weight of any lure is a great distance from the fulcrum, the torque caused by it dwarfs all others on the rod. Many people get enjoyment from having a rod that is balanced when held horizontally with no lure attached so I guess the physics doesn’t really matter in that case.

Yes, I think raising the minimum to 2 pounds would solve the problem as far as I'm concerned but would you still like it? It would be a completely different game. Watch this video of EE's killer run in the Redcrest. It's very entertaining TV for sure. By my count he caught 17 score-able bass in this video. 1 was over 2 lbs, 8 were over 1.5 lbs, 8 were under 1.5 lbs. Give the guy credit for finding the spot, but I think it's safe to say anyone could catch fish there. In a 5 fish limit tournament he probably wouldn't waste much time on this spot but would have around 8.5 lbs off of it. With a 2 lb minimum he goes away with one small fish. Under the current rules this spot is legendary. How you score makes all the difference in the world in how a tournament test the angler's skill, what fish they target, and in the final product the fans watch on TV.

Edwin Evers caught 63 fish in the championship round of the Redcrest. At one point he was catching fish faster than his marshal could enter them into score tracker. I watched it and it was very entertaining. His average bass was just under 1 lb 6 oz. It was like watching Tiger Woods play putt-putt, fun to watch... once or twice. I'm sure Tiger would be very good at putt-putt, but let the guy show us what being a great golfer is really about. Same goes for the worlds greatest anglers. I've caught 60+ bass in a day several times in my life. Does that make me a world class angler? If the goal it to watch them catch a lot of fish, then do away with the one pound minimum, just count the number of fish, and we can watch them catch 200 six inch long fish a day. I've never caught a 30 lb limit. I'm impressed when I see a pro do that. I want to learn how he did it. I want to buy the stuff he used to do it. I think the BPT will eventually realize they have to make some changes. Their fans and their sponsors will demand it.
