  1. Welcome to the forum!
  2. I was fishing once when a duck started flapping her wings on the water. At first I didn’t think much of it. I’d seen ducks playing hurt many times to draw a predator away from their nest. This one just wouldn’t stop and I told my buddy that if she kept it up she would convince me that something really was wrong with her. Well she kept flapping franticly on the water and started come right at me. I trolled up close to her a saw that a snapping turtle had her leg. First I poked the turtle with my rod. He didn’t turn loose. Then I dipped him up with my net and he let go.
  3. Welcome and thank you for your service.
  4. Very well said. Thanks for sharing. ?
  5. Go to http://chartselect.humminbird.com and find the lake you’re interested in. Click the lake to see the details of what’s available for that lake. There is a small “Preview Contours” link on the page if it exists. Click it to view the latest contour map. Many lakes don’t have previews. I don’t know if you can upgrade but you can buy just one lake and create your own SD card if you have an SD card reader.
  6. I’ll fish pretty much anything I would fish on a Texas rig. My favorite is probably a Zoom lizard.
  7. I have an Ultrex and can't overstate how much I love it. I fishing off shore most of the year and never realized how much time I spent getting the boat in position and keeping it there until I started using spot lock.
  8. I just got back from the grocery and their peanut butter stock was very low. I think this thread has boosted global peanut butter sales.
  9. Call me old fashioned or simple minded but I still just call em big uns.
  10. Well they don't make it easy do they? When I made my initial post on this thread I just check for it on my iPad. I was able to find it on the web. https://chartselect.humminbird.com/store/products/HB-NY_W759185_N432098_2D?locale=en You will have to create an account on https://chartselect.humminbird.com/ and you will have to download the software that will download the purchased map(s) and write them to an encrypted SD card. The instructions are here https://chartselect.humminbird.com/download?locale=en Make sure you have an SD card that is compatible with your unit and that your computer has an SD card slot and that the SD encryption software will work with your computer before you buy. It can be complicated. I mostly used the app on my phone to buy maps. I used the online process for one lake because I wanted the full bundle of products they had for the lake. The bundles include the HD Contour maps, satelite imagery, topo maps, and Smart Strike and cost 49.99. You can get just the HD Contour for $29.99. If your unit supports Smart Strike it's useful and cost $4.99. It will let you enter the conditions and time of year and will tell you where to fish. I have never used it for that but I have used it to search for places that match conditions I enter like a certain slop and will highlight those places on the map. I don't use Smart Strike much but it's fun to play with. Of course you can always buy one of the Regional cards that include all the maps in a region for $150. Let me know if you have any more questions.
  11. Me trying to choose a color is like this dog trying to choose a tennis ball.
  12. Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
  13. Humminbird does have a Lakemaster map of Oneide if your unit accepts Lakemaster maps. The quality varies some from lake to lake but overall Lakemaster maps are the best I’ve seen. You can buy them and copy them to a SD card using a computer. With newer units that have Bluetooth you can buy them on your phone and transfer them directly to the unit from the Hummingbird FishSmart app and you can view them on the app on your phone or tablet. I spend on average about 5 hours a day staring at Lakemaster maps on my iPad ?. The cost for Oneide is $29.99
  14. He needs training on how to long arm a fish.... but I guess with a certified state record he doesn’t really need to long arm it. It is a beautiful fish.
  15. Wow. Looking at the photo I would guess 8-9 lbs. Just further proof that photos can be deceiving.
  16. Great questions. There are rules concerning when bass spawn. I’m convinced that the bass I fish for have never read the rules.
  17. The video that @Green Trout posted is spot on. The difference between a $500 combo and a $100 combo in terms of fish caught is very close to zero. You’ll be better off in the long run buying a cheap medium action rod and a cheap heavy action rod and learning why action matters than buying a high end rod someone else recommended based on their preference and the way they fish.
  18. Update: Thanks to this thread, I just finished a PB&J. I went traditional with peanut butter on one slice and jelly in the other. Orange Marmalade Smuckers and creamy Kroger PB.
  19. I would say that fish is a little over 15lbs. My grandfather used to tell me that when he was a kid, people liked to eat drum. He said his parents liked them more than catfish.
  20. Don't get me wrong. I'm a firm believer in following the game & fish laws. I just don't see how they can enforce it. Especially, if LM are in season and SM are not.
  21. My question is, how does a DNR officer know you're fishing for bass? "No officer, I'm fishing for crappie with this 10in worm"
