  1. i would be surprised if you can't find everything you need on ebay. I always buy the service manual for my outboard. If yours is not listed on ebay then just set up a search for it and anything else you need and have it send you an email when one is listed. Welcome to BR!
  2. I agree that catfish is way better I agree there is no comparison on taste. I don't feel like I've proven anything if I catch a bunch of catfish on chicken livers. The chickens are the ones doing all the work.
  3. You're right. There are no rules. I know a guy (who always goes WAY to fast) who was going across the lake one night when an anchored house boat heard him coming and suddenly turned on their lights right in front of him. He turned quickly and barely hit the boat at an angle. He was not hurt but it ripped a big chunk of fiberglass out of the side of his boat. He was lucky. People don't follow the rules.
  4. Here is how both angler's fished the spot in question during the tournament. Day 1 - It was the first place Lambert fished. He caught a good limit and left the spot. Later in the day Haynes fished the spot and did well. Day 2 - Both anglers plan to fish the spot first. Haynes gets there first. Lambert get there see Haynes fishing the spot and moves on. Haynes does well on the spot and leads the tournament after day 2. Day 3 - Both anglers plan to fish the spot first. Lambert passes Haynes on the way to the spot and gets there seconds before Haynes. The confrontation occurs and Haynes leaves. Lambert does well and then moves on to another community hole where he does even better catching his 9lber. The new spot becomes his primary spot for the rest of the tournament. It is where he caught 27lbs on day 4. It is poor sportsmanship to race someone to a spot because you know they are catching fish there. You should find your own fish. Lambert did find his own fish on the spot before Haynes did. I doubt that Haynes knew that when he got upset and left. I think Lambert proved that he could catch fish on the spot in question and on other spots as well. His 100 plus pounds for the tournament was very impressive. I'm going to Kentucky Lake tomorrow. I don't want any trouble so I'm staying away from "Hayne's Hole".?
  5. I don't claim to know much about the Ned Rig but is it really that different from Charlie Brewer's Slider Worm and the techniques he promoted that dates back to the early 70s?
  6. I admire anyone who finds a way to legally catch a fish. If you gave me a flogger, I wouldn't know what to do with it. As for damage these anglers are doing to the lake, I never worry about anglers harming a fishery. I buy my fishing license and follow the rules. I think the vast majority of anglers do the same. When we buy a license we pay experts to worry about our fisheries for us. I'm confident that our wildlife agencies can monitor the health of our lakes and make changes in the fishing rules as necessary to protect them. There are many practices that are banned. They can ban floggers if they feel it is necessary. We have size and creel limits. Some places have fishing seasons. I think this part of our sport is under control. The only thing that keeps me up at night are invasive species which no one seems to have a solution for.
  7. I look at reserve capacity over Amp hours @ 1 amp. You pull a lot more than one amp when trolling so this is not a very meaningful metric. Reserve capacity which is the number of minutes the battery can stay about 10.5V at a 25 amp discharge. That's a more realistic test for performance as a TM battery.
  8. I have one KastKing rod, the KKR-SDP-1C76CR Carolina Rig rod. It is a high quality rod and it will not be my last. My only complaint is that it is rated as a fast action medium heavy rod and the action is not heavy enough for me. I going to give it more time to see if the action grows on me. I may replace it with one of their heavy action rods. Based on my experience with this rod, I don't think they have a rod that would be heavy enough for me to use as a worm/jig rod and certainly nothing I would use as a flippin rod.
  9. I'm going to do some speculation here so take it for what it's worth. I would not expect that you would see any difference between a Helix 10 MEGA and a non-mega when using 360 imaging. They both have the same screen size and resolution and most of the other specs are the same. It is possible that the MEGA could have more processing power that could be used to better refine the image but I don't see any indication of that in the specs on the Humminbird web site. My 360 is connected to my network switch and I can use it equally from both of my Solix units. The 360 imaging unit has to be generating it's own sonar signal so the sonar capabilities of Fish Finder you are using should not matter.
  10. I'm using a Solix 10 with mine. The knob adjust the range and you have to go to the menus to adjust the sensitivity. I find myself adjusting the sensitivity more and I wish I could use the knob for that. From my one month with the 360, I have found that you miss a lot if the sensitivity is not just right. I'm sure I'll get better at reading the screen as time goes on.
  11. I've had one mounted on my Ultrex for a little over a month. It does not work as well as the online videos suggest it should. There have been times when I've found something with the 360 and caught fish because of it. It clearly helps me catch more fish. When you get right down to it, how many things in your boat can you truly say that about.
  12. I worry a lot about breaking the composite shaft on my trolling motor. That's why I put a $1K 360 imaging transducer out in front of it to cushion the blow on anything I hit. ?
  13. Let say you are powering a 100W light. At 36 volts you will be pulling 100/36 = 2.78 amps. At 24 volts you will be pulling 100/24 = 4.16 amps. So each battery in the 36 volts system will be doing less work than the batteries in a 24 volts system so they will last longer under identical power requirements. Higher voltage provides the same wattage at lower amperage. If you had the batteries in parallel you would have 100 watts / 12 volts = 8.3 amps but that 8.3 would be divided by the number of batteries in parallel. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_power
  14. I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that one.
  15. Are you saying three batteries of a given size do not have more capacity than two batteries of the same size?
  16. I don't know how much they are used on smaller boats. I think if you have room to mount it and want it then go for it. I've been fishing for 30 years out of aluminum bass boats with 24 volt TMs. I have never run out of juice or had my batteries get so low that it affected my fishing in any way. I've never fished an electric only lake but I'm confident I could without a problem. On my worst 12 hour day of heavy use, I see my top trolling speed drop from 3 MPH down to 2.5 MPH in my 18ft Aluminum Bassboat. That's with a 24 volt 80lb thrust TM.
  17. You're the only person who can answer the question, is it worth it? An onboard charger is nice. It will make your life a tiny bit easier. It will not help you catch more fish.
  18. Tips on how to avoid being bitten by a rattlesnake 1) Don't go to a rattlesnake roundup. ?
  19. I have a Ranger RT188 (18 ft) with a 90HP outboard. My boat will do 41MPH according to the GPS. The boat is rated for 115HP and people claim to get in the low 50s MPH with the 115HP. Larger aluminium boats can handle 150 HP so I would guess they can reach around 60 MPH. If you want to top 60MPH you will definitely want to go fiberglass.
  20. I've always been an aluminium guy. Advantages Weights less so uses less gas in the boat and in the tow vehicle. Boat cost less Tow vehicle can be smaller/cheaper. I can fish around stuff that might scratch a fiberglass boat. Trailering in general is easier with the lighter boat. Disadvantages Can be a rough ride on rough water. Wind will blow you around more than in a heavy fiberglass boat. If you want to go really fast (I don't) you will need to go fiberglass.
  21. I haven't used the unit you have but it should allow you create a waypoint on anything you see on the graph. Then just use the GPS to go to that waypoint. It should do all the math for you. The manual should show you how to do this.
  22. Stacy King is another guy who has been doing well lately at age 69. However, I heard him say in the last few weeks, that he was too old to be a "power fisherman".
